Free Music Notes for Appetite for DestructionFree Music Review: Rightly deemed a classic Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, this is the third gunners review I've written in a row and I'm starting to feel like a cheerleader for the band. Not that I'm an uncritical fan (hey, wait til I review The Spaghetti Incident and Lies) but it's just that this band put out three albums that are pretty much essential listening for anyone with a plectrum sized piece of metal in them.
This debut full length is the catalyst that sent the `most dangerous band in the world' into the stratosphere. Produced by long term producer Mike Clink and a serious machine in Geffen behind them the band have here created an album that captures the sweaty zeitgeist of the times perfectly. Every single aspect of the late 80's glam/hair metal explosion is here and amplified so it's no longer cheesy or fey, just very committed, very serious and very much in possession of a certain air of authenticity. The difference between the men and the boys so to speak.
It's hard to pick highlights from this album that treads so exquisitely that space between hard rock and metal, utilising the more communicative blues based structures of the former and marrying that to the more meaningful, somehow more unclean aspects of metal decadence and total acceptance of the seedy downside to the drink/drug/girls spiral that most other bands couldn't wait to sing the praises of. And that perhaps is why you can still put this on with less of a feeling of partaking of a guilty pleasure after all these years. Where so many other bands of the time you sort of feel like looking over your shoulder to see if anyone is seeing you put the disc into the stereo. Not naming any names of course!
As for lowlights there aren't really any. When you delve beyond the chart hits like Sweet Child O' Mine, Paradise City, Welcome to the Jungle and past the more obvious pieces of metal magic like Rocket Queen and the more seedy triumphs such as My Michelle the lesser heralded numbers like Think About You and Anything Goes are still top notch tunes that would of been standout tracks on most other albums from the Sunset Strip circa 1987. Respect.
If your one of the few people on the planet who don't own this album you really need to buy it. Now. What are you doing still reading this? I said buy it! I'm not going to tell you again!
Free Music Review: A Life Changing Album Hit: 5 Stars
To start off, Appetite For Destruction is an 18x Platinum album, making it the most best-selling album of all time world-wide, Surpassing the album Boston(by Boston). Next, this is the review of the songs:
1.WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
A great start for entering the Appetite, it has very violent lyrics, but it is one of the best songs on the album.
2.IT'S SO EASY [EXPLICIT]
One out of two of the songs on the album that front-man Axl Rose shows his deeper voice. It also has violent lyrics, and has explicit lyrics (cussing).
3.NIGHTRAIN
A drinking song, about cheap Californian wine. This song is not explicit in anyway (unless you find the lyrics,"and I can tell you honey, you can make my money tonight." explicit).
4.OUT TA GET ME [EXPLICIT]
The song is about running away from police. The song has explicit lyrics (cussing).
5.MR BROWNSTONE [EXPLICIT]
A song about drugs (the lyrics,"I used to do a little but the little didn't do it, so the little got more and more. Just kept trying to get a little better, said a little better than before.") It has explicit lyrics (cussing).
6.PARADISE CITY
One of the best songs on the album. The song is about 'getting away from this life'. It has no explicit lyrics in anyway.
7.MY MICHELLE
One of my favorites. It has the word, "porno", which I guess they say is explicit.
8.THINK ABOUT YOU
A ballad, and is NOT EXPLICIT!!!!!!!!! NOT EVEN A LITTLE!!!!!! THEY MESSED UP!!!!!!
9.SWEET CHILD O' MINE
One of the best songs on the album. Many people know this album from that song, it's a very beautiful ballad.
10.YOU'RE CRAZY [EXPLICIT]
A very fast song. It has explicit lyrics (cussing)
11.ANYTHING GOES [EXPLICIT]
A song that many don't know. It dosen't have any cussing, the lyrics are sexually explicit.
12.ROCKET QUEEN [EXPLICIT]
Even though it dosen't say explicit, it is sexually explicit, but other than that, it's a real good song.
This is My Review, and I recommend this album to anyone who likes any kind of rock, and I believe that this is the greatest album in the history of music.
Free Music Review: My Favorite Album Of All TIme Hit: 5 Stars
I like a lot of classic rock, and I have some pretty famous albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin IV, and more, but this is my favorite out of any of those. The first GNR album that I got was Greatest Hits, but i think this album is more of a greatest hits album than that one was.
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE 10/10 - a great song!! the intro to this song is amazing and its a great way to start the album. this song definatly lives up to all the hype.
ITS SO EASY 9/10 - another really good song with a good solo from Slash.
NIGHTRAIN 8/10 - a pretty good song, but not as good as the others, I think the intro is pretty cool.
OUT TA GET ME 7/10 - an ok song, but probably my least favorite on the album.
MR. BROWNSTONE 10/10 - a great song with a really cool intro. i think this song should have been on the greatest hits album.
PARADISE CITY 10/10 - a classic GNR song that is hard not to like.
MY MICHELLE 8/10 - after the intro, the song becomes harder rock like the others and its a good song overall.
THINK ABOUT YOU 8/10 - when i first heard this one i didn't like it that much, but the more i listened to it the more i liked it. its a pretty addicting song and is good overall.
SWEET CHILD O' MINE 10/10 - along with Welcome to the Jungle, this is the best GNR song. the intro is really good, and this song has one of my favorite solos by Slash in it. if you don't like this song, then you just don't like rock music.
YOU'RE CRAZY 9/10 - a really fast song that has some pretty cool parts in it. there's not much to say about this song except that it's just good.
ANYTHING GOES 9/10 - another fast song with a really cool sounding solo from Slash.
ROCKET QUEEN 10/10 - the more i listen to this song, the more i like it. i like the beginning of it, but the last 2 minutes are even better, especially the ending. this song is really underrated.
Not only are the songs on this album good, but when you listen to the whole thing, it sounds the best. If you don't like the lyrics of this album, then at least get the edited version, but the cussing ads to the affect.
Get this album!!
Free Music Review: This is pretty much GNR's greatest hits album Hit: 5 Stars
During an age where the Rock world was dominated by ridiculous makeup-wearing, party-hardy hair bands and prissy shredding, along came Guns 'N Roses and their album 'Appetite For Destruction'. The gritty and down-and-dirty Rock 'N Roll sound they brought with them was something not heard since the days of the Stones. There isn't one filler to be found, and every song had the potential to become a hit single. Every track on here is a winner. From the snarling guitars of 'Welcome to the Jungle' to the punk bass-influenced 'It's So Easy', you can't doubt such genius. "Think About You" and "Sweet Child" reveal the band's heartfelt side, two good love songs. 'Nightrain' is a great blues rocker while the mean riffs of 'Out to Get Me' scream paranoia and speed metal wreaks havoc in 'You're Crazy'. "Mr. Brownstone" is as lyrically impressive as it is musically. The rest of the album is as equally good.
Frontman Axl Rose isn't a flawless singer, but he gets the job done. Guitar players Slash and Izzy are definitely the best axe attack duo since Keith Richards and Ron Wood. Slash is a great lead guitarist, with his trailblazing work in the outro of 'Paradise City', the wah-wah pedal inducing 'Sweet Child 'O Mine' and slide guitar in 'Rocket Queen'. But also look out for Izzy's soloing in 'Nightrain' and 'Think About You'. Rhythm players Duff and Steven keep everything tight each track. Many believe 'Appetite' is an overrated album, but do not know the impact it made. The sound is rather outdated today, but the songwriting showcased here is still unmatched, heavy at times but still melodic. All this while staying true to Rock roots. GNR was the band that put good Rock back on the map. However, they would unfortunately soon fall to the likes of Nirvana. This was truly the last time the whole world was exposed to the real roots of Rock 'N Roll.
Best moments and highlights of the album? Get a dose of Axl's incredible vocal range in the transition from 'Welcome to the Jungle' to 'It's So Easy'. Keep a close ear out when Izzy and Slash switch off solos right in the middle of 'Nightrain'. Also, listen to when the album shifts from the end of 'Think About You' to the intro of 'Sweet Child 'O Mine'. There's nothing quite like it.
Free Music Review: 'Twas my favourite album- for a long, long, long time..... Hit: 5 Stars
Their best. Definitely. i've outlined the songs below:
1.Welcome to the Jungle-5/5- A great opener- a perfect song. Axl sounds great. Slash sounds great. Everyone sounds great in this song.
2.I'ts so easy-3/5- Nothing to write home about. just a passing song.
3.Nightrain-5/5-What a song! It is amazing! Not to be missed. Why the hell isn't it on the greatest hits- it should be!! Slash does some immense guitar skills in this. Starts off kind of AC/DC style and then gets progressively harder.
4.Out ta get me-5/5- Another goodun. Some good strong vocals.
5.Mr. Brownstone-4/5-Begins crap but gets better.
6.Paradise City-5/5- WHAT AN AMAZING SONG! Starts off real well with acoustic guitar and heavy drums and then it gets proper GNR when it breaks into distortion guitar- the guitar at the end- well just hear it. It'll be love at first listen!
7.My Michelle-5/5-Really good. Starts off really quiet then breaks off into extremely heavy distortion guitar. Possibly the heaviest on the album.
8. Think about you-3/5- just another passing song
9. Sweet Child o' mine-5/5- Possibly by far the best. It's my favourite anyway. It starts more rock than heavy metal, but have you heard the guitar solo? You should. That's where it turns proper heavy metal. Amazingly fast- on a par with Eddie Van Halen speed. One of my favourite all time songs. Great intro riff too.
10.You're Crazy-4/5- The fastest on the album, a good song, but at times I feel it is a bit too fast.
11.Anything goes-3/5- A bit crap to be honest- but hey! It's the only crap one on the album.
12. Rocket Queen-5/5- A GREAT ender. Truly stunning. Starts off kinda soft, but then Slash takes it into a new section with a different tune, with a heavy but very tuneful melody. The vocals build up with great backing guitar, to a climax of a victorious end, leaving the listener on a high after listening to the song.
So that's my review. This album is not only filled with great songs but also great lyrics. I seriously advise getting it, even if you are not a big heavy metal fan. Anyway, how can sales of 14 million be misleading?
Cheers.
Craggaz(it's not my real name)
