Free Music Notes for G N R LiesFree Music Review: Very Rare Piece of Music Hit: 5 Stars
Imagine a band being the biggest thing in rock after only 1 major multy-Platnium album. That was Guns N Roses when they released this album. There was no big promotion for this album after all it was sorta a re-release of some older and B-Side material. This album proved to be one of the best and most rareest releases of the generation. The songs are unforgetable, raw, soulful, and sometimes shocking. Even today this album would be taboo if just released. I cannot think of a better demo-style record than this one, ever. The best songs are the acoustic ones "Patience", "One n a Million" just to name a few. The songs lyrical content is about sex, drugs, girlfriends, love, and peace of mind. or to hear the band say it "Guess I needed some time to get away/I needed some peace of mind/some peace of mind that'll stay/so I thumbed it down to six and LA/Maybe your greyhound could be my way.....
If you want to experience a album that is true in form, a album that has not been "produced" just real melodic, captivating rock n roll than this is it.
Free Music Review: GNR Lies Hit: 5 Stars
GNR Lies comprises of 4 live tracks and 4 studio tracks. The first half contains the classic [in my opinion] Move to the City with tops tongue in cheek openers Reckless Life and Nice Boys. I've gotta say the cover of Aerosmith's Mama Kin rules! It's a hard rocking track that just sounds so good [mainly down to Slash - he rules!] Now, the 4 studio tracks... Patience has to be one of my all time favorite GN'R tracks after Sweet Child n' November Rain. It has to be the best track on the album. A ballad that sounds better everytime you listen. The next song, Used to Love Her is another classic in my eyes, a ditty about Axl killing his girlfriend. The acoustic version of You're Crazy is up next and that's just fantastic, a slowed down version from the one on Appetite just fits in nicely. One in a Million ends the CD in fine style, don't get too offended though, Axl get's on his soapbox and pretty much lays into anything. Another great acoustic number. All in all, another Classic from GN'R. Buy it
Free Music Review: Great album with a beautiful conception Hit: 5 Stars
In 1988,Guns 'N Roses' APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION album was selling by the dozens. On December 6 that year, this album was released. The date even appears on the album(this site lists the date as November 30 which is incorrect). The same day this album was released,Roy Orbison passed away. He was just enjoying success with his TRAVELING WILBURYS VOL. 1 album. The first 4 tracks are live, recorded in 1986. One of them is MAMA KIN,written by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. The other 4 tracks were studio recordings. PATIENCE,an acoustic piece, was a #1 hit. YOU'RE CRAZY,also an "unplugged" track, was first heard electrically on APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION. That song along with ONE IN A MILLION contain some profanity. USED TO LOVE HER is a tadbit silly("I used to love her,but I had to kill her!""I had to put her 6 feet under and I can still hear her complain""She's buried right in my backyard."). Total playing time for this CD is approximately 35 minutes.
Free Music Review: GNR AT ITS FINEST Hit: 5 Stars
God, there's so much good about this album. First of all, the previously unattainable "Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide" is on here, which really shows longtime fans how GNR was back in the day. You can really understand what these guys were going through as they talk about life in the city. "One In A Million", while controversial, is one of the best lyrical musical composures Axl has ever written. Axl truly is a genius. But to really get into it, "Patience" is an awesome song as well. The tune and characteristic whistling is just pure GNR. I got this album today, and i listened over it once. It is one of my favorite GNR albums now. Second only to Appetite For Destruction, with the Illusion ALbums coming in next. The Aerosmith cover is notable, but "One In A Million" is the highpoint of this album. If you're new to GNR or a hardcore fan, just buy it. It's definitely worth it.
Free Music Review: Don't Listen to the Lies, Buy this Album Hit: 5 Stars
GN'R Lies is often unfortunately overlooked because of it's controversy and a misunderstanding of the album's purpose. The so-called lyrics of bigotry in "One in a Million" are taken out of context with the rest of the song, which is actually sarcastic and satirical and focuses on self-hate more than the hatred of others. Also, don't fool yourself: this album was a filler to tide the fans over between Appetite and their next work (which happened to be the Illusion albums). Fans should buy this only if they already have the three major albums and are looking for something extra. However, as a little something extra, Lies is a great album and true gunners should find that it hits the bullseye. By the way, Axl is working on new stuff, as he has been for a few years and he entered the studio late '98. Supposedly it is more techno. I'm there, man!
