Free Music Notes for Spaghetti IncidentFree Music Review: The best one! Hit: 5 Stars
I was always more a fan of Slash's guitar work and tone on the GNR albums than of the songs themselves (with a few notable exceptions). In my opinion, guitar-wise, this album is way more 'raw' and 'gritty' than the others. Slash's solos are absolutely perfect and full of emotion (Ain't It Fun being a good example), and his rhythm playing is devastating. It's hard not to smile listening to the menacing opening of 'Down on the Farm' or 'Black Leather'. Through and through this album just kicks, with none of the over-produced feel of the UYI albums. Axl's voice is in top shape as well and the choice of songs here provides a wide array of musical styles (still punk though), resulting in a very well-rounded album. That's why, ironically, the only non-original Guns N Roses album is also my favourite.
Free Music Review: An Enjoyable Incident Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD eleven years after its release and wasn't disappointed. It sold poorly when it first came out and has received horrible press ever since, but for me, hearing the old numbers from my favorite band was invigorating. Duff sings on several songs (New Rose, Attitude, You Can't Put Your Arms ARound a Memory), and Axl displays wonderful range and a variety of voices in his unique way (Since I Don't Have You, Down on the Farm, I Don't Care About You). A Charles Manson-penned tune appears on the original release, though unmentioned in the liner notes. Highlights of the CD include the groove-driven "Black Leather," the anthemic "Attitude," and the haunting cover of the Skyliners' "Since I Don't Have You." A must have!
Free Music Review: About "Chinese Democracy" Hit: 5 Stars
Slash is my guitar hero of all time. Unexpectedly Buckethead is just as great as he is, or even better. Try one of Buckethead's albums, you will fall in love with and finally get addicted to his underestimated talent. Buckethead can play any style as well as guitar god Jeff Beck. "Chinese Democracy" is definitely the best rock album since 1991. It got what the other great rock bands like Metallica, AC/DC, etc. are always missing: beautiful melodies. In fact, Axl's new album is way way better than any Slash or Duff's solo projects. If your religion is rock music, then Axl Rose is your God and his albums is your Bible. Buy more copies of this masterpiece for your family and friends to do them a huge favor!
Free Music Review: Guns N' Roses Hit: 5 Stars
I don't know why this album has such a bad rap. It wasn't supposed to be anything special. Just something they had and decided to release for those who wanted to hear it. It was intended to be something for the die hards to listen to while they waited for the next real album. Anyone who tries to compare this album to Appetite or UYI1&2 is making a mistake. It is more comparable to Lies. Nevertheless there are some instant classics on this cd (Down on the Farm, Ain't it Fun, Black Leather, Attitude). Judged as what it was and what it was intended to be (not what people wanted it to be) this is a great album but probably for diehards only. -- 8/13/98
