Free Music Notes for Use Your Illusion 1

Free Music Review: Burning Aurum
Hit: 5 Stars

It's been 10 years since I pulled out my GNR CDs and seriously listened to them. In high school, I loved Use Your Illusion II and my friend and I would debate which was better: Civil War or Estranged. A stupid kid who tried to be a bully and a friend at the same time came up to me one day and started reciting the last monologue in Coma, possibly to impress me. Surprised was he to find this dork singing right along with him!

10 Years After, and awakened by the real world and how accursed it all is, I've come to find the Use Your Illusion albums more than enjoyable tunes to memorize. These songs have angst, anger, and a sort of jaded "experienced life" maturity to it that I find reminiscent of my current days.

Use Your Illusion I has come to my aid and I've found myself listening to this record more and more. I've also realized that this record is Izzy's show. He pens eight of the sixteen tracks here (excluding most lyrics). From the darkest piano chord that opens Dust N Bones to the bizarre but awesome Double Talkin' Jive, Izzy's contributions on this record are vast.

Rose's piano charms even the hardest rocking of songs, and his wordsmithing is both prolific and profound. Even if I loathed GNR, I'd have to admit Axl can express himself better than most. Besides Dead Horse, his only solo composition is November Rain, a song I used to idly listen to. It, along with UYI II's Estranged, is a work of genius. I can easily imagine Rose sitting at a piano, a drink on the music desk, creating the song; November Rain (as with most of these tracks) is best appreciated with good headphones.

Where I used to skip over many of the tracks, today I listen to this album straight through. Although I don't consider the UYI albums concept in any form, UYI I feels faster, edgier, and more experimental of the two.

To be quite honest, I never even knew people considered songs "filler" until coming here. So the idea really means nothing to me. These people worked hard on each song, and the result is an album unrivaled by anything released today.

Free Music Review: Better than the second part.

I love GUNS 'N ROSES. They're one of my favorite bands. Of course you may have realized by my nickname that my favorite band is KISS, but let's keep talking about this album:

1.- "Right Next Door To Hell".- A great introduction for this album. A great song, too.- 5/5.

2.- "Dust 'N Bones".- Not really a fan of this one but, O.K. it's fair.- 4/5.

3.- "Live And Let Die".- O.K. It's really great, overall.- 5/5.

4.- "Don't Cry".- Now we're talking. This one is another of those GUNS 'N ROSES best songs EVER. I love this one.- 5/5.

5.- "Perfect Crime".- I like it. But not as much as "Live And Let Die" or "Right Next Door To Hell", but....O.K.- 4/5.

6.- "You Ain't The First".- Another one of those best GUNS 'N ROSES songs EVER! .- 5/5.

7.- "Bad Obsession".- WOW. Another one of the best GUNS 'N ROSES songs EVER. Great.- 5/5.

8.- "Back Off Bitch".- As good as "Bad Obsession". You know what that means: ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE BEST GUNS 'N ROSES song EVER! .- 5/5.

9.- "Double Takin' Jive".- Fantastic song. I love this one. Great drums.- 5/5.

10.- "November Rain".- ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER!!!!! .- 5/5.

11.- "The Garden".- As good as "Dust 'N Bones".- 4/5.

12.- "Garden Of Eden".- A terrific fast-paced song. I love this one too.- 5/5.

13.- "Don't Damn Me".- I like this one as much as "Garden of Eden".- 5/5.

14.- "Bad Apples".- Great song. Very interesting.- 4/5.

15.- "Dead Horse".- Great rock song.- 4/5.

16.- "Coma".- One of my favorite's. This one is a great outro. Very well played.- 5/5.

Go buy this one along with "Appetite For Destruction" because they are the best GUNS 'N ROSES albums EVER!!!!

GUNS 'N ROSES RULES!!!!!!!!!

Free Music Review: WITH A SMILE UPON MY FACE, I NEVER WANT TO LEAVE THIS PLACE.....

Ok, a while back I did a reveiw for UYI 2, but not for this one. I will say the same thing here that I did for that one. YOU NEED TO HAVE BOTH! Do not buy the single CD version that mixes some from this and some from 2. You miss out on a ton! If you can only afford one, my suggestion would be to get no.2, however, most fans would tell you that this is the stronger disc. EITHER WAY, you need to have both. This one contains more RADIO songs, heres my breakdown (I put a little star next to the extra noteworthy songs.)
RIGHT NEXT DOOR: I dont know why but I think this is the weakest song out of both discs. Just me?
DUST N BONES*: YES!
LIVE AND LET DIE: Better than the WINGS version, its enjoyable.
DONT CRY: Pretty great ballad.
PERFECT CRIME*: Very intense!
YOU AINT THE FIRST: Good tune for the not so good one nighters.
BAD OBSESSION*: If you love blues rock, like me, you'll love this tune.
BACK OFF BITCH: some more solid rock
DOUBLE TALKIN JIVE*: Short and sweet rocker with some sultry acoustic at the end (YOU DIG WHAT I'M SAYIN?)
NOVEMBER RAIN: You're bound to like this ballad, your girlfriend will too! Sneak this one in the stereo when you try to make your move, the ladies melt to this.
THE GARDEN*: Very excellent, you got guest vocals from ALICE COOPER and the the dude from BLIND MELON. Oh but hey, theres guest vocals from ALICE COOPER!
GARDEN OF EDEN: its punk.
DONT DAMN ME: OH YEAH THAT SUCKED! No, its awesome, man.
BAD APPLES: Another sub-par track, still rocks.
DEAD HORSE: I dig these lyrics.
COMA: Well a little long but stick with it cuz theres a lot of change ups, worth it just to hear him say "WHAT THE [...] IS GOING ON!"

Yeah so thats that. GET BOTH. Thats the best peice of advice I can give you.

TODAYS LESSON: nothing lasts forever, EVEN cold November rain.

Free Music Review: A wonderfully hard-rockin' diverse album!
Hit: 5 Stars

Use Your Illusion 1 is definitely the heavier of the two Illusion albums(though not so much as "Apetite for Destruction"). And as with the case with Use Your Illusion 2, it is wonderfully diverse as well. It contains short, fast, bone-crunchers such as "Right Next Door to Hell", "Perfect Crime", "Garden of Eden", "Back Off Bitch", and "Don't Damn Me". It also contains many slower tracks such as "Dust N' Bones", "You Ain't the First", "Bad Apples", and two of the three songs that compose the GNR trilogy: "Don't Cry" and the classic "November Rain". There are numerous songs on this album as well that alternate between heavy and soft: "Live and Let Die", "The Garden", "Dead Horse", and the unforgettable, epic "Coma", the highpoint of the album. An earlier reviewer of the album recommended buying a CD he saw at Walmart that combines some of the hits of the Illusion albums, but this would be a great mistake for the beauty of The Illusion albums lies not within the numerous "hits" that appear on them, but within the numerous songs that weren't hits because they aren't as "mainstream". These songs, as well as the ones that were released as singles, put Axl Rose's musical genius on display as well as the incredible guitar mastery of Slash. "Coma" alone is worth more than the cost of the CD. It is arguably one of GNR's greatest songs. If you are a Guns N' Roses fan, or just a fan of Rock and Roll in general, buy this album. It contains everything from heavy metal to southern rock to ballads. The best songs: Coma, Dead Horse, Don't Damn Me, The Garden, and maybe November Rain (if you haven't already heard it a million times)!

Free Music Review: This landmark album is a Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

If a true lover of hard rock can get past this band's silly antisocial antics and some potentially offensive (to some) lyrics, what you will find is a treasure of composition that has few equals in the genre. First, I disagree with those who label G&R as a heavy metal band. I have my heavy metal favorites, but G&R are a cut above them all in the quality and range of their composition. Some of the best tracks "The Garden", a searing metallized ode to disenchanted love; "Don't Damn Me", an in-your-face angry rail against conformity; and "Coma", a cry for tranquility and detachment that takes you on a wild roller coaster ride of cerebral melody and pounding metal, never made air play because of their sometimes "R" rated lyrics or play length. As a landmark album for its time in that it has a style and quality unlike any of its contemporaries, I would rank it, along with UYI-2, on the same level as Led Zepplin's Physical Graffiti. 1 and 2 should have been marketed as a single release because of the spectrum of musical taste that they encompass. Together as one album they would have been one of the greatest albums in classic rock history. It is fitting that these albums recorded at the band's zenith and were released in the wake of their rapid decline. They represent the best efforts of the band
and show how the band seasoned from its cruder but no less effective debut "Appetite for Destruction." As a fan, I'm grateful the G&R departed after they recorded their best, because they were still fresh and innovative. They didn't get sucked into the recording industry trap of being forced to crank out the sub-standard commercial grade fodder that so many talented bands fall into.
