Free Music Notes for Use Your Illusion 1

Free Music Review: nearly perfect
Hit: 5 Stars

use your illusion 1 is a real bluesy, complex, rock n roll album, instead of a stupid hair metal album like appetite. i'll only review songs i like,ok.

dust n bones, bad obsession and bad apples: intelligent, aerosmith, stonesy blues rock songs.

live and let die: cool cover song, unique riffs.

don't cry: beautiful, but not comparable to november rain.

november rain: if u know anything about gnr, you've heard it. sounds classical, complex, and great instruments.

you ain't the 1st: twangy bluegrass country song w/ no solos, short, but one of a kind.

double talkin jive: kinda stupid lyrics, but almost metallica-sounding guitar solo, which fades into a spanish guitar sounding solo at the 1 minute left mark, rebellious.

the garden: seems to tell of drug use, multi-styled, it's soft yet heavy, like led zeppelin songs. BEST HARD SONG ON ALBUM

don't damn me: rebellious, and quality lyrics, just a simple gnr rocker.

dead horse: starts out acoustic, then suddenly gets crazy heavy, and an awesome solo from slash, then goes back to the same acoustic part then ends.

coma: describes a coma, has very heavy riff in it; coma>the garden.

This is not a hair metal album; uyi1 is like aerosmith/stones, while appetite is like poison/motley crue/kiss. do not buy but a few songs off appetite.

I remember when G'n'R hit it big with "Appetite for Destruction." It's easy to forget just how big that album was. Almost all of the tracks went on heavy rotation on every rock station in the country for well over a year. You couldn't turn on a radio or walk into a bar or go into someone's dorm room without hearing that album. I love AFD, but even 20 years later I don't listen to it that much because of the oversaturation of its initial release.

"Use Your Illusion", however, both I and II, are albums I still listen to at least monthly. There are simply so many songs on these two albums that it was impossible to oversaturate the airwaves with them. In a sense, that's too bad, because most of them are excellent songs that stand the test of time. By and large, they're well crafted enough, and different enough from one another, to remain interesting. Apropos to some of the other reviews, there is a jarring contrast between artier, more thoughtful songs like "Dead Horse" and "Cold November Rain" on the one hand, and the juvenile songs like "Back Off Bitch." Nevertheless, both "Use Your Illusion" albums are chock full of excellent content.

At the current Amazon price for these discs, you can't go wrong buying them if you are even a casual fan of G'n'R. Recommended.

Free Music Review: Lose Your Delusions, Axl
Hit: 5 Stars

Yeah, this is good.
Of course, no matter how good the opening 14 tracks may be (and apart from Bad Apples, The Garden and Don't Damn Me, they are all excellent) nothing can hold a candle to Dead Horse and Coma. These are two very underrated tracks. Dead Horse has a great acoustic intro, leading up to some devilishly catchy hard rock. A great solo just completes the package.

And we move on to Coma. What can I say? If Estranged (similarly epic, equally excellent) is a song of lost love and catharsis, this is some sort of weird acid trip through Axl's messed up mind. A kick-ass riff, some haunting lyrics and wonderful musicianship throughout combine to make this possible the second best song G'n'R ever laid down, after Estranged. I love the claustrophobic edge this song has, the weird dangerous vibe. Listen to it on headphones, and you will be thinking about it for days. Similar to Pearl Jam's "Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me" in that regard, but Coma is actually a song. And what a song.

Even without the other 14 tracks, these two songs would make this a must-have record. So Axl, if you've got any brain cells left, quit your belly aching and make some decent glam rock like you and the boys used to. Velvet Revolver are really showing you up at the moment.

Free Music Review: it's no illusion- it's actually good
Hit: 5 Stars

After I just bashed the living heck out of Appetite for Destruction for being one of the most overrated rock albums ever made, the band jumps back and surprises even me with a solid collection of songs. Song after song, I'm left totally confused how most people can criticize this album, and yet, prasie Appetite for Destruction. "November Rain" is the most popular song, and the guitar playing at the end of it blows away everything on their debut album (and I mean *everything*). That's one heck of a song. The build up is brilliant, and the atmosphere is totally amazing to me how a hard rock/heavy metal band would be able to pull off something so wonderfully.

However, the enjoyment doesn't stop there. "Don't Cry" is a really good ballad with meaningful vocals, "Right Next Door to Hell" has memorable vocals (which is where "Welcome to the Jungle" failed miserably) and "Dust n Bones" almost sounds like something the old rock band Little Feat would do. Solid songs. Of course, this version of "Live and Let Die" doesn't compare to Paul McCartney's version in any way, shape or form, but it's decent enough.

Why most people prefer Appetite for Destruction is a major mystery to me. Perhaps many people prefer weak songwriting and a few overplayed songs.

Free Music Review: Not Quite Appetite
Hit: 5 Stars

Though a cd can be half as good as Appetite for Destruction, and still be five stars. This one however is really very good, and slightly better then it's counterpart, Use Your Illusion II

Right Next Door To Hell 10/10 This is a great way to start off the cd, with a great hard rocking song
Dust N' Nones 7/10 It's good, nothing to write home about Live And Let Die 9/10 Great cover
Don't Cry 9/10 Didn't like this one at first, but it grew on me,
Perfect Crime 10/10 Another great hard rocking song
You Ain't The First 6/10 Don't like this song that much, weak point of the album
Bad Obsession 8/10 CD picks up again here
Back Off Bitch 8/10 Good song, i think "It's so Easy" makes better use of the word 'Bitch'
Double Talkin Jive 8/10 Good effort by Izzy
November Rain 10/10 One word, Masterpiece
The Garden 9/10 Great song when Axl sings, Alice Cooper sort of brings this one down
Garden of Eden 9/10 Great rocker, Axl sings incredibly fast in this one
dont damm me 8/10 Another good song
Bad Apples 7/10 Defiantly not a bad song, just not to the caliber of some of the stuff on here
dead horse 8/10 Not a classic, but a very good song none the less
coma 10/10 Great finish for the album
