Free Music Review: NOTHING TOUCHED THE TRIGGER BUT THE DEVIL'S RIGHT HAND
Hit: 5 Stars

The entire soundtrack from beginning to end is just like the movie: BEAUTIFUL, MAGICAL, MELANCHOLIC, AND VERY POETIC!

The scores from the movie are absolutely beautiful. Listening to "Brokeback Mountain 1" reminds me of Ennis and Twist working together for the first time, getting to know each other. Listening to "Brokeback Mountain 2" reminds me of the second night they were together after the made love for the first time and tried to deny their feelings for each other; but it was impossible. Gustavo Santaolalla received a much-deserved Oscar for his hard work.

The other tracks on the CD are also fantastic. I especially enjoyed "He Was A Friend Of Mine" by Mr. Willie Nelson. It's such a powerful song, that fits in perfectly with the movie's theme. And I love "The Devil's Right Hand Man" by Steve Earle, this song reminds me of all the rage and hostility that Ennis had pent up inside; he was only able to get it on in very small trickles when Jack Twist could look deep inside him (where no one else could see).

If you enjoyed the soundtrack but have not seen the movie yet, please go see it; you'll be very glad you did. "Brokeback Mountain" has restored my faith in modern American pictures because it is reminiscent of the romantic films made in the 30's where two lovers always stayed together despite all odds. The only difference is these two lovers are homosexual men.

Free Music Review: Brought a tear to my eye
Hit: 5 Stars

It's undeniable the power the film 'Brokeback Mountain' carries. I didn't realize until listening to this sountrack straight through the power that can come from a few strokes of guitar strings. Gustavo Santaolalla beautifully pieces together a score that will rush you with memories of this spectacular film, from the opening track, of course the notable 'Brokeback Mountain 1,2 & 3' and the closing 'Wings' which is used in every trailer, but it was the track 'Riding Horses' that had me in tears. It's subtlety is it's forcefulness and will break you down with thoughts of this ill-fated love affair. 'A Love that will Never Grow Old' is a beautiful song that won the golden globe for a reason. Emmylou Harris has a beautiful voice, although I could picture Alison Krouse really knocking this out of the park. My favorite track here, besides the haunting 'Riding Horses', is 'I Don't Want to Say Goodbye' by Teddy Thompson. The album contains classic country ballads like Willie Nelson's 'He was a Friend of Mine' and 'No ONe's Gonna Love you like Me' by Mary McBride and then theres classic bar romping tunes like 'The Devil's Right Hand' and 'An Angel went up in Flames' but the beauty of this album is that through all the diversity it keeps in tune with the film and the feel of the story in general. A beautiful and perfect companion to the best film of the year.

Free Music Review: Brokeback Heartbreak
Hit: 5 Stars

A fine collection of C&W songs performed by some great artists, with some evocative instrumental interludes from the film. The highlights are the moving A Love That Will Never Grow Old (next year's Oscar-winning song?) and I Don't Want to Say Goodbye, songs written by Gustavo Santaolalla and Bernie Taupin and performed by, respectively, the reknowned Emmylou Harris and Teddy Thompson, a talented young artist (check out his excellent self-entitled debut on Virgin Records). These songs do a great job of conveying the love of the two main characters in the film, but can be enjoyed by anyone. They are wonderful country ballads. Santaolalla's other songs are excellent too. No One's Going to Love You Like Me is a nice twangy Patsy Cline-y piece, while I Will Never Let You Go is a strong, more fast-tempo song. These songs are performed by more talented up-and-comers, Mary McBride and Jackie Greene. Rufus Wainwright's own The Maker Makes is tremendously desolate and moving. Wainwright and Thompson also team for an immensely enjoyable cover of King of the Road, their voices alternately blending and contrasting quite pleasingly. I think the Willie Nelson cover of "He Was a Friend of Mine" is fine. It is more uptempo, but Willie's vocal treatment is very touching. There's a nice, frantic fiddle piece too, "An Angel Went Up in Flames."

Free Music Review: Epic, honest and real, very moving. Brilliantly subtle.
Hit: 5 Stars

To start, Heath Ledger oozes an Oscar worthy performance. The character he creates is as real and authentic as they come; his way of speaking, the language he uses, BRILLIANT writing. The inward shyness and economy with words of this humble man is enough to make you want to spend an entire day contemplating in silence. Jake Gyllenhaal's performance was riveting and excellent as well, but the real focus is on Ledger and his character.

The scenery and cinematography is also brilliant and beautiful. The "big sky" feel, the landscape and raw nature of their surroundings lend even further into the story of this "raw" love between men.

The story itself is absolutely compelling and real. Regardless of what you think about gay men, this is truth about what happens in the world. It's about how people are overcome by love, and cannot reconcile it to their lifestyle or to the way of life they have known, but yet love will live on in spite of it. It is also one of the most heartbreaking scenes when Ledger's character discovers the shirts hung together, and utters those last lines of the movie.

This movie is so fulfilling in many ways; touching, tender, compelling, REAL, and so very brilliantly acted and filmed.

Free Music Review: Heart Moving, BEST of the YEAR !!
Hit: 5 Stars

What is good music/songs?
This soundtrack is one of the greatest I ever heard.
It is heart moving from the first minute to the last.
Excellent recording and performances.
Composer's talent and lyrics are all no.1 class.
Simple guitar, piano and string arrangements perfect fit the movie, also stand out on it own.
I did not see the movie, but I did read Annie Proulx's Close range: Wyoming stories. This soundtrack got the spirit of the stories.
Brokeback mountain#1, #2 and #3 is similar but arrangements are to the heart you can feels the flow of music running thru your brain.
ONLY "Angel up in flamed" and "It so easy" with different tempo but they also match with the NORTH WEST atmosphere created in the music.
I, personally, deeply moved by the voice of Emmylou Harris sung "A love that will never grow old" IT IS JEWELLERY, simple is beauty. It got all the elements to win ANY award.
My ranking for songs, from top to bottom, is: A love that will never grow old, He's a friend of mine, The Maker makes, I don't want to say Goodbye, King of the Road, I will never let you go, No one love you like me, Devil's right hand ...

I am sure no one would be disappointed by this soundtrack.
