Free Music Notes for Brokeback Mountain [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack]

Free Music Review: Haunting, Poetic and Beautiful
Hit: 5 Stars

I think I love the soundtrack to this moving film as much as the film its self.
Who ever chose the songs for this cd really did an excellent
job of capturing the essence of Annie Proulx's story of enduring
love and loss.
I think the best songs on this cd are "A Love That Will Never Grow Old". sung by Emmylou Harris. And you can't help but shed a tear when you hear Willie Nelson's "He Was A Friend of Mine". But the most haunting song of all, is The Maker Makes. Rufus Waninwright (son of folk singer Loudon Wainwright III.)brings an erie ghostlike feel to the song.
It sounds like something you might hear wailing on a cold
and lonesome night on a Wyoming range.
All of it held together by the fantastic guitar melodies of
Gustavo Santaollalla.
Unfortunetly Brokeback Mountain won't be out on dvd for awhile.
But this beautiful soundtrack will keep the memory of this great love story alive for you until then.

PS. It would've been an even better cd, if liner notes with lyrics to the songs, had been included.

Free Music Review: Great Soundtrack!
Hit: 5 Stars

A soundtrack should really bring back the "feel" of a movie when you listen to it and this one does in spades. From Gus Santaolalla's spare, evocative, guitar scoring to Willie Nelson's He Was a Friend of Mine and Rufus Wainright's mournful The Maker Makes over the final credits, this cd will transport you back into the movie. (I couldnt get the movie out of my head for days). I'm not a big country music fan, but I liked (or loved) everything on here and its made me more interested in exploring some of the performers like Teddy Thompson (who has a great duet with Rufus on King of the Road, which alone is worth the price of the CD!) About the only song cut that doesnt fit is Ronstadt's It's So Easy (heard briefly in a bar in the movie). A better choice would have been Ronstadt's version of Hank Williams', I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You. There is a lot on here that didnt make it into the film (at least that I remember) and you dont have to have seen the film to enjoy the music. But what are you waiting for? See it!

Hit: 5 Stars

Jesus, this album is so affecting, I'm literally astounded to the extreme...hell, it's so beautifully put together. I'm hesitant to even open the case incase I scratch the case, how strange is that. Listening to it at the moment, I marvel at it's ability to transport you right back into the movie in a series of memories, so relentless it's both deeply satisfying and yet devastating.
If you were changed, or moved by the film this isn't merely a want, it's a necessity. I had left the cinema reeling, upset, determined and still aching weeks afterwards. I needed a reminder of the movie to relieve me, heard about the soundtracks's release, so I took a day off and bought it from a store in London. God, did I feel better. Never have I felt such a relief.
If you've read Annie Proulx's short story, and watched the film, you might know what I mean - provoking, capable of awakening, stirring and inject one with such determination. Now, that's what I call emotionally charged...

Free Music Review: Perfect Fit!
Hit: 5 Stars

Usually I don't buy movie soundtracks, but this one is too good to pass up. And it is a show of support for this remarkable movie. Most of these songs are about deep and true sentiments but the overall feel of the album is not over-sentimental.

The lyric of the first tune, "A Friend of Mine", fits the plot of the movie like it was written for it. The other covers (especially, the whimsical "King of the Road") are lighter (even fun) tunes that balance out the heavier stuff. The original songs written for this movie are the best -- truly sublime! You can even say "A Love That Will Neve Grow Old", "No One's Gonna Love You Like Me" and "I Don't Want To Say Goodbye" are Jack's songs for Ennis, while "I Will Never Let You Go" and "The Maker Makes" are Ennis' songs for Jack. They really evoke the core sentiment of the movie. The instrumental pieces are like the landscape of Wyoming from which these songs of human yearnings take shape.
