Free Music Review: An Amazing Soundtrack!
Hit: 5 Stars

Very good, highly reccomended! My 5 year old daughter loves to listen in the car while we drive... if she's tired she wants "A Love That Never Grows Old," if she's wanting to boogie she asks for "The Devil's Right Hand" & put it on repeat!! It is a highly evocative journey in music, reflecting the journey the movie took. All the acoustic pieces are heart-wrenching and beautiful. The vocal pieces, from Willie Nelson's version of the Bob Dylan song "He Was a Friend of Mine" to Rufus Wainwright's haunting "The Maker Makes," are just as amazing. A masterfully crafted CD. Gustavo Santaolalla & Bernie Taupin created songs so romantic and painful it's hard to describe the feelings they evoked in this 40 year old Lesbian mom. WOW. Buy this CD.

Free Music Review: Love the movie, love the soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

I'll admit I bought this soundtrack because I loved the movie and since the DVD is yet to come, and Brokeback Mountain is winding down in theaters, there is precious little out there to savor of this great film. I have listened to it and it so fits the movie and I hadn't realized how much the music goes with the movie.

I love to listen to all the instrumental sections of the CD and then listen to "He Was A Friend of Mine" and "A Love That Will Never Grow Old", then move onto "I Don't Want To Say Goodbye". My only complaint is that the instrumental sections are bitterly brief, everytime I hear them, I want to hear them go on and on.

If you love the movie like I do. You'll love this.

Free Music Review: MAGNIFICENT
Hit: 5 Stars

Please if you really love Brokeback Mountain - like me - and this absolutely fabulous CD buy also 'Red Dirt Girl' CD by Emmylou Harris. Her 2000 CD it's a fantastic piece that you could enjoy listen too - along with this score. Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Teddy Thompson and Rufus Wainwright are definitely in tune with the Brokeback Mountain unforgettable movie! I only wish that this soundtrack were a little longer with more Gustavo's music.

Hope that real soon the full soundtrack/score will be available with the complete 22 tracks. The now famous 7 tracks from this CD + the 15 new ones by Gustavo.

That said - once and for all - Brokeback Mountain is glorious in all its aspects.

Free Music Review: eccletic music
Hit: 5 Stars

After purchasing the DVD of Brokeback Mountain and reading the book, I purchased my first CD of the movie track. (This is my second purchase of the same CD.) The collection of artists and music is rich. The instrumental guitar work is compelling and crisp. This was my first encounter with Teddy Thompson and Rufus Wainwright--hard to "box in" musicians from musical families--a whole new horizon. The lyrics on the lesser known songs are compelling and profound aside from one's take on the film theme. The only song I would jetizon is Steve Erle's "The Devil's Right Hand," although the concept commands one's attention. Unfortunately, I think this CD is a "sleeper," but it should be a "keeper."

Free Music Review: THANK YOU STRAIGHT PEOPLE FOR THINKING OF US!
Hit: 5 Stars

It is a great movie, but not sure if it is because of the actual movie, or because this movie went mainstream. One big comment is that it is sad we have to resort to straight actors to make it mainstream, and then remove any intimacy from the film which futhers certain stereotypes. I don't mean porn style intimacy, but parts of the movie where a real gay couple snuggles, kisses, and behaves like any other couple. Instead, we get a one spit in the hand quasi-rape sceen that makes everyone (gay/straight/bi/trans/other) cringe. I wanted to take my mom to this movie, but the beating in the end just re-inforced what lots of mom's think that being gay results in being gay bashed.
