Ever since I checked this out from a library long ago, I have wanted my own copy to listen to over and over. Ethel Merman is incredible. And I adore Jack Klugman. Most people do not realize the full scope of his talent. The songs are fun, the music is delightful, and the performers are perfection.Free Music Review: A perfect match.

The role Merman was born to play. The voice, the personality, the hutzpah to really BE Mama Rose. I wish that this landmark performance had been captured on film for all of us Merman fans to enjoy. With the mother of all Overtures, Styne's music, and Sondheim's lyrics this show is a winner! This is, hands down, Jule Styne's BEST score. Merman is at her finest, and while Jack Klugman's singing ability leaves something to be desired, he's really not half bad as Herbie.Free Music Review: Excellent Choice

Merman belts the songs out of the ballpark in a way that Midler can't touch and LuPone only nears in 'Rose's Turn.' Ethel Merman at the peak of her powers...Everything's coming up roses is utter perfection,and you gotta have a gimmick seals the deal for me! This is the great American musical at its' best...I'll play this disc forever! All else is mediocre.
