Free Music Review: Five stars strictly for the slow jams

In the early nineties most R&B groups with debut CD's either had excellent fast songs and sub-par slow jams or excellent slow jams and sub-par fast songs. H-Town's debut CD falls into the later category; however the slow jams are what make this album a classic. The two slow singles released from the album Knockin Da Boots & Lick U Up can still fill a dance floor whenever I DJ. Knockin' Da Boots" established the group as part of the new breed of Urban Contemporary vocal groups hearkening back to vintage soul rather than New Jack swing as their inspiration. Lick U Up is very sensual in it's delivery and could serve as a sequel to Silk's Freak Me. Won't U Come Back is an apologetic slow jam which samples Alexander O Neal's Sunshine and the last track Baby I Wanna is another ode to sex. H-Town delivered a classic first album and one has to wonder if the group would've hooked up with producers like Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Babyface and Teddy Riley how far they would've gone.
