Free Music Review: Hairspray:It's Timeless To Me
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't really like it when they adapt a classic film into a musical, but there are always execeptions. Hairspray is so alive, it amazingly captures the music and the feel of the 60's. The cd really catches just that feeling. The lyrics are clever and the music is wonderful. The performances especially Marissa Jaret Winokur & Mary Bond Davis are of award winning quality. Harvey Fierstein is wonderful, but one cannot appreciate his hysterical performance on a recording. There are apt to be comparisions to Grease which is absurd, for this is a true Broadway musical,Grease was merely a cartoon. This is a recording everyone can enjoy.

Free Music Review: Incredibly addicting!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay so the first time I heard of "Hairspray" i was like what the heck was this? But I decided to get the album after hearing the cast perform on "The Today Show" and I was hooked! It best can be described as a 60's version of "Grease." If you like great classics like "Grease" and "Little Shop of Horrors' you'll LOVE "Hairspray." It was one of the most pleasent surprises last year. If you want a fun 60's inspired musical with catchy tunes check out "Hairspray" and DON'T be embarassed to have it blasting from your car! (trust me, it will be)

Free Music Review: You just can't stop the beat
Hit: 5 Stars

From "Good morning Baltimore" to the last belt of "You can't stop the beat" Hairspray is truly a highly, entertaining, enjoyable b'way show. I loved it. It has hands down one of the best scores written in many years. All the songs are upbeat and fun, and the cast who sings them are just as entertaining. It is great to see a show like Hairspray on b'way. I am so tired of all those depressing imports of britsh shows. They're usually long, depressing, and the score is not that great. For those who want to have a great time and actually remeber what you just heard. Hairspray is #1

Free Music Review: Big Fun In Baltimore? You Betcha!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is proof that the magic of musical theater can be created from the most improbable-sounding parts. Take a movie from John Waters, reigning king of bad taste film making, make it about the social injustice of racial segregation, make the heroine a plus-size hair hopper, then add her mother who's not only played in drag but is done so by an actor with a voice like a cat in a garbage disposal.

And what do you have? Sheer, unabashed fun.

This is a toe-tapping, funny, genuine piece of entertainment that's so sincere it doesn't have to be a guilty pleasure. You'll love it.

Free Music Review: Great wild fun!
Hit: 5 Stars

I thoroughly enjoyed Hairspray. The music is fun and exhilerating. I just saw this in Los Angeles. What great energy. The lead woman actually sounds even better live then on the cd.
Other CDs I recommend:
Avenue Q
Passion (Sondheim)
Assassins
Producers
Sweeney Todd- my Favorite- Get the DVD and watch it!
Hairspray
Little Shop of Horrors- the movie still rocks
La Traviata- the best opera
The Boy from OZ
and
Voice Lessons To Go (both volumes)- So you can learn how to sing with all of the performers!
