I bought the Hairspray Soundtrack just after watching the movie, and it's amazing the quality of the compilation, the cheerfulness of the songs and the overall production. It's music to pop it in the player, sing and dance til' the ultra-clutch wears out and the flip is gone with the wind!Free Music Review: Nicest soundtrack in town

The soundtrack of the hit movie musical (and probably the best film musical since "Moulin Rouge!")is well worth the price that you pay to get it. Included are toe-tapping hits like "Good Morning, Baltimore" and "You Can't Stop the Beat" that will make any person want to groove it and shake it like it's 1962.
I recommend this version of the soundtrack over the stage one for a few reasons. First, most viewers will be more familiar with the film and it will come closer to their experience of what "Hairspray" is. Second, although he's a brilliant stage actor, Harvey Fierstein's voice is hugely annoying on the stage soundtrack when it's not propped up by a visual performance. Third, the orchestrations are teriffic; even if they're not 100% accurate as a represention the music of the period, they're faithful enough to maintain the spirit of the early '60s without sacrificing the potentials of a full orchestra.
There are a few drawbacks. The absence of "The Big Doll House" (which is in the stage version) is a disappointment. Also, a few music cuts are sloppy (such as in "New Girl in Town"), but overall an excellent addition to any music collection.

Not just a great movie anymore! The soundtrack, with all the music from the movie, of course, is just as great! I love it and listen to it just about everyday. Defintely a great addition to your soundtrack collection.
