Free Music Notes for Hairspray (Soundtrack to the Motion Picture)Free Music Review: Can't wait to see the movie. The soundtrack rocks!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Get this while you can because how often are you going to find Travolta and Walken (as in Christopher) singing together? The rest of the soundtrack is vibrant and wonderful. If you've heard the Broadway version, you'll probably like this one as well but try not to compare them. Each version is distinct and unique and the voices are also quite individual.
I am tempted to review each song individually but I've found that when I do that, it really doesn't give the essence of the songs, so I'd suggest you listen to some sample tracks, as Amazon allows you to do. The only thing I'd say about this is that the songs are very retro (in general), as you'd expect them to be.
Free Music Review: Mama I'm a Big Girl Now Hit: 5 Stars
I just had to buy this sound track from the movie "Hairspray" 2007, which I saw 5 times at the theatre. My favorite song is "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now", sung by Ricki Lake, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Nikki Blonsky, and this song prompted me to buy the sound track. Other favorite songs are "Good Morning Baltimore", "I Can Hear The Bells" and "The New Girl in Town". The entire CD is great. I'm happy to have bought it. Can't wait to buy the movie when it is released. Nikki Blonsky is so cute and has a wonderful voice. She's perfect to play Tracy Turnblad. I don't know where they found her, but she's absolutely perfect. She'll be a big star someday. She already is!
Free Music Review: Amazing!! Hit: 5 Stars
I have never seen the Broadway production, so I'm certain it's better than the film (it always is) but this movie and its accompanying soundtrack are wonderful!
Nikki Blonsky is fantastic start to finish, as are Zac Efron and Elijah Kelley. And as to someone who criticized Travolta's accent....it was the most accurate Baltimore accent I've ever heard from a non-Bahl-merian, "hon"s and all.
The soundtrack is great, light tunes, pensive tunes, dance tunes...it's all here, as with any good musical. I heartily recommend it to anyone who's ever been in a bad mood...it won't last long with this CD playing.
Free Music Review: Feel Good Soundtrack to Feel Good Film Hit: 5 Stars
Saw a sneak preview last night of the film and it was fun! Did not have high expectations after seeing Hairspray on Broadway and again on a touring show but it was great. I like Nikki Blonsky's Tracy over Marissa Winokur's Tracy. This soundtrack as additional songs and sounds better than the orginal Broadway cast. Only wish Cooties was in the movie, hopefully it will be on the DVD version whenever. Glad it made it on the CD. See the movie, buy the soundtrack. John Travolta was OK as Edna, better than I expected but sometimes his voice reminded me of Mike Myers's Dr. Evil somehow. His dancing in "fat" costume was funny.
