Free Music Notes for Home for ChristmasFree Music Review: Three Little Words - "Home For Christmas" Hit: 5 Stars
I grew up with Hall and Oates providing the musical backdrop for my life in the 70's and 80's. I remember seeing the duo on one of the network morning shows when they dropped this CD back in 2006. I'm not sure what took me four years to finally order it, but I sure am glad I did! The impression I get as I listen to these artists today is that this is much more than a simple holiday collection. It's a "men-of-a-certain-age, coming of age" collection. Hall and Oates are both comfortable in their own skins, and after nearly four decades together, they're obviously comfortable bringing out the best in each other. Daryl Hall's vocals are warm and soulful, and I'd like to think heartfelt, even in the traditional and spiritual songs. The acoustic guitars add delicious depth to the audio landscape, and the strings lift the compositions to lofty heights without sending them to parts unknown. One can imagine listening to these arrangements in a backwoods cabin, singing beside the fireplace between sips of hot cocoa (or warm rum toddies!)
This is a welcome addition to my already bursting-at-the-seams Christmas CD collection. While I still unreservedly give this CD 5 stars, there were two points worth noting: First, I'm not entirely sure why, but it was like pulling teeth to find this disc this year, and only four years since it was originally released. I finally scored it through an Amazon-related vendor, but was disappointed it was no longer available for download. The second observation was during the first track ("Overture/The First Noel") - whoever produced this got a little heavy-handed with the studio reverb, and at several points there's some minor feedback "ringing" that is noticeable. Not horrendous enough to make it unbearable to listen to, but there it is.
"Home For Christmas" still comes very highly recommended! Track 7 "Children Go Where I Send Thee" is down-home, gospel camp-meetin' upbeat and will have you tapping your feet despite yourself! By all means, do what you can to get your hands on this holiday gem!
Free Music Review: "Home For Christmas": The Best new Christmas CD of the season Hit: 5 Stars
I heard of this new CD when I knew they reached the # 1 in the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart with a Christmas song. Then I found they had released this whole Christmas album. After hearing only the brief samples, immediately I rushed to FYE (only retail store who is selling it in the U.S.), and I don't regret it. It 's awesome!!!!!!!!
This is the CD that I have been playing over and over ever since, even more than my all time favourite Mariah Carey's.
Each song has been done in a so wonderful way. The classics (Mary Had a Baby, The Christmas Song) have been brought to the beautifull blue-eye soul style of Hall and Oates. I discovered some old songs like "Children Go Where I Send Thee" with a tasty Southern gospel flavor, and "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear".
My favorite tune is the new song "Home for Christmas" that I am sure will become a classical over the years. I also love "Christmas Must be Tonight" and "No Child Should Ever Cry on Christmas"
The album is joyful and all the songs are pretty, catchy, and "O Holy Night" placed at the end makes you to play the whole CD all over again.
A CD that has made my Christmas season more merry than I thought.
Wonderful work of the duo!!!!
Free Music Review: All you need this Christmas Hit: 5 Stars
Daryl and John were very inspired when they worked on that album.
I could count on a lot of good surprises when I bought HFC.
First, the original tracks: "Home for Christmas" and "No child should ever cry on Christmas", they are very good! They can stand out among all those traditional ones, great work.
I couldn't tell which are my favorite tracks, it's quite difficult, since they are all so good.
John does an amazing job when singing "The Christmas song", his voice is perfect for it, completely soft, just like the song.
"Children go where I send thee" allowed Daryl to show how his voice gets better with time, he's giving us his best, I'm sure.
"Jingle Bell Rock" has found its best interpretation now (compared to the several ones it has), it's even better that the one Daryl and John recorded in the 80's.
Believe it, this album is amazing!
Free Music Review: Essential Christmas Album Hit: 5 Stars
My first reaction to Daryl Hall & John Oates' Christmas album was some surprise to how good it sounds and how true to Christmas the songs are. No "Frosty the Snowman" types here....
The string arrangements complement the album's beginning overture into "The First Noel". Daryl and John's vocals remain first-rate and it stays that way right through the best "O Holy Night" you've ever heard.
This album is must for anyone who needs some Christmas music that keeps the real meaning of Christmas right up front where it belongs. The lone exception may be "Jingle-Bell Rock" which is a newer version than the 1983 release.
Best tracks are:
Home For Christmas (Title Track)
Christmas Must Be Tonight
Children Go Where I Send Thee
Mary Had A Baby
The Christmas Song
Jingle Bell Rock
O Holy Night
Free Music Review: My New Most Favorite Hit: 5 Stars
Over my many years, I have come to like certain Christmas songs that touch my heart. Every year, it seems that one of them is always my favorite for that year, with few ever gaining the #1 slot again.
I now have to make an exception.
If for no other reason, Home For Christmas (Title Track) has become one of my most favorite Christmas Songs, since its release, now, year after year.
I always look forward to playing this song as my 'First Christmas Song' of the year, when the time rolls around.
Simplicity, elegance, meaningful, memory song does it and says it all for me.
Get this song and you too will find that it fills your heart with Joy and after that what Christmas is supposed to be all about?
