Free Music Notes for Our Kind of Soul

Free Music Review: A keeper, a classic!
Hit: 5 Stars

I just got my CD today, and am listening right now (again) trying to decide what makes this CD not just a rehash of classic material by mature artists. It could be the way H&O found their own arrangements instead of just swiping the old ones (like the Michael McDonald karaoke CD of soul songs). It could be the obvious love of and respect for genuine R&B. It could be the great way their voices blend, lift above each other, then blend again. It could be the soul genie that blessed Daryl Hall's vocal cords. Or the great mix of classic R&B with new songs that have the feel, the heritage of the great old songs but does not merely imitate or plagiarize them. Could be any of those or all. This is one fine CD - I don't know why you haven't bought it yet!

Free Music Review: HOT!
Hit: 5 Stars

Whew!, this is HOT, HOT, HOT! I just can't stop listening to this great CD. What a wonderful tribute to such wonderful songs and of course in only the way Hall and Oates could have accomplished. Souls Violins is so much into the period of this music. I was glad to hear John Oates performance as well. John has such an earthy warm voice. If you are a long time H & O fan it will remind you of some of the tracks on the CD, "The Red Ledge," where John's voice carried so well.
Daryl's voice is timeless, unchanging, and perfect. This blue eyed prince could sing Happy Birthday and make a chart buster hit out of it. If you want to bring a smile to someones face just let them have a listen to this classic work.

Free Music Review: I CAN GO FOR THIS
Hit: 5 Stars

This is possibly the album that America's most successful duo have waited over 30 years to make. Their Philly roots are at the forefront of the 17 tracks that are a delight on the ear, from the self penned lead track to the wide range of soul classics.
The use of acoustic guitars on several interpretations shows the soulful voice of Daryl Hall to full effect, while John Oates adds his own distinctive vocals and playing. Overall they have created an album that could never have been made when they came to prominence in the late 70's.
I only wish I had this available then to charm former girlfriends, instead of having to get up after 20 minutes to turnover a vinyl copy of 'Abandoned Luncheonette'.

Free Music Review: Incredibly wonderful CD--Maybe my favorite ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD a while ago--and could hardly stop listening to it! Listened to it on the computer at work, in the Discman at the gym, and also at home. I have bought it for friends. I seem to never get sick of it. Saw Hall & Oates in Seattle recently--bought the CD of the concert!!--and feel they are only getting better and better with age. Their voices & musicianship are superb...and this CD shows it. The "Blue-Eyed Soul" duo is playing soul like their voices & style were meant for it. I can't wait until they make a follow-up--and can't wait for their new Christmas album to be released. I recommend this CD more than any other I own--which is a lot! I love, Love, LOVE it, and hope you will, too!

Free Music Review: Great album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I just recently saw Hall and Oates in concert for the first time. I have been listening since I was a teenager. I was amazed by their talent...so much more than the popular songs on the radio let on. What I love about them is their ability to make a well known, loved song their own and it is still fanatastic to listen to. So many groups when they redo an "oldie but goodie" try to sound just like the original group that did it. Hall and Oates remain true to themselves and true to their style and are able to incorporate that into the oldies. I have a new found respect for their abilities and this album truly demonstrates that. If you have the chance to see them in concert....DO IT!
