Free Music Review: an indispensable set for a country music collection

This set is a 'must have' for anyone who is a serious collector of country music. For some years now, major US labels have been upstaged by the comprehensive country-music boxed sets of their German and Japanese counterparts, but this collection redresses that imbalance somewhat. I only wish that this magnificent set had been released twenty five years ago, when I attempted to acquire a comprehensive collection of Hank Williams' music. (In those days, some of Hank's tracks were overdubbed with all manner of instruments, and there didn't seem to be any systematic re-release policy by his record company.) Even though die-hard Williams collectors will have much of the material in this set, there are tracks that have not been released commercially before (though some of them were exchanged on tape by collectors). The accompanying booklets are both well written and comprehensive. The only negative is the fact that the CDs are not contained in separate jewel cases, but instead are inserted into cardboard sleeves in one booklet. An additional wish is for the "Mother's Best Flour" shows to be released as comprehensively.Free Music Review: 5 stars effort.

I am very proud to have the box set.
Any country fan, regardless new or classic must have this box set. for several reasons:
A. Hank was and still is one of the foundations of influences of the artists that came after his short run (less than 6 years).
B. To enjoy the song writing craft that Hank was gifted with.
C. A clean marketing deal from the record company by releasing the complete Hank recordings. Lucky for us, No greedy marketing scam by releasing the complete set in installments.
D. Heck a lot of Hank's songs have been covered over and over again by stars from the 50's all the way to today. So it is a great chance for you to hear the original recording.
I do agree with some previous reviewers that the packaging is nicely made, as the CDs are inside a book about Hank, with a number of photos. The only downside to the packaging is that it might actually scratch the CDs. but it and Ipod it.
In the end, I truly enjoy listening to the box set, and I certainly do hope you do too.

Free Music Review: Hankerin' for the real complete

This De-Lux (that's how MGM would have put it) box set of "all" Hank's recordings has flaws, like granite has broken pieces/quirks that make it so wanted, so perfectly sensuous. Expensive, like that precious rock of ages, these 10 CDs evoke the past and the way we look at art and enjoy it. It fits so well today and will forever.
Cranks and akimboed armed mavens will sniff snort say, "Hey! What about this?!?" or that obscure recording that was left off. I say, calm down, this is more than most fans could have ever hoped for. For years all we had were late night TV offers of poorly recorded "Greatest Hits" thin discs that the turntable needle obliterated after hmm maybe 30 plays.
The booklet that is provided is fascinating, well-written, and probably historically true (as far as Hank myths go). There are bonus postcards that a collector would never ever send, and some great pictures. I would have liked a full collection of pictures of all Hank's MGM Lps, EPs, and 45 sleeves.
This is essential American music.

With this astonoshing box set Hank Williams and his wonderful legacy is truly set free. To me, Hank Williams is one of the true innovators of American music, if not THE innovator. To call him simply a country performer is a misjustice. Hank was virtually everything. He was oh-so-country, but there was also blues, and, dare I say, the first seeds of the rockabilly/rock'n'roll revolu- tion. But most of all, Hank had soul. He spoke to people of all classes and all races in a simple, yet poetic language. His acchievement are here in the most complete package ever in tribute of his 75th birthday on september 17. The set is highly recommended to everyone with the slightest feel for where it all came from. Whether Your'e into country, folk, blues, rock or soul, Hank Williams is for You. This set do justice not only to his music, but also his vision. Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, et al seems very pale compared to Hank Williams, singer/songwriter/ performer unparalleled in the annals of American popular musicFree Music Review: Free at last
