My Dad bought a radiogram (Aussie for record player) when I was about 10. I am now 48. It came with some free records. One was MGM's "The Unforgettable HANK WILLIAMS" (M-G-M-02 7548). It has a sticker which says it would have cost 52/6 (= $AUD5.00 approx). I have been a fan of Hank ever since. Even my 13 year old daughter is starting to appreciate his talent."The Complete Hank Williams" has all the tracks on my vinyl record, plus all the other ones as well. The quality is excellent.
It was great value through AMAZON.COM (I saved $AUD100 by not buying it locally), and it really is great. I am saving up so I can buy Colin Escott's biography (naturally from AMAZON).
I particularly like the demo's, as well as the radio and TV soundtracks.
My day would be made if I could download a video clip of one of the TV shows.
Overall, an excellent complilation, and a must for all Hank Williams fans.
Free Music Review: clean sound, value for money

Production values of the accompanying booklets are very high. The CDs fit in little slots in the pages of a tall hardbound book. There is lots to read as well. Annotations tell you who is playing and singing with Hank, when it was recorded, where, etc.I have not yet heard all 10 CDs in this set, but the ones I have heard have been uniformly clean and very listenable from an audiophile point of view. The engineers have managed to get just about all the snap, crackle and pop out of the original. I cannot tell whether the "original" has been altered to achieve this clean sound, or whether the original relationship of voice to instruments has been changed (as sometimes happens when engineers "clean up" older recordings).
I was surprised to see just how much of Williams' music is religious in nature.

I challange anyone who hates country to listen to these songs. Country used to kick ass before it got all slick in the early 60s. My favorites are Jimmie Rodgers, Harry Choates and Woody Guthrie. but Hank is BIG UP.
I bet if hank was still around, Nashville would dress him up like a retard, and over produce his records so they sounded like journey. Country producers need to listen to these recordings and get a clue. These simple old recordings had guts.
I don't know if hank would be a rapper if he was alive today. But i'm surprised modern hillbilly music is so dorky. Hillbilly music used to swing. It used to be dance music.
Anyway it's better to get the box set, cause if you just buy one cd, you're going to get hooked anyway. Some of Hank Williams rarest tracks are some of his best.
