As a boy , I hated all country music, because my father hated Rock'n Roll. But I knew that Hank Williams was something special. I bought his 40 greatest several years ago, thinking that this was the ultimate collection. However, for some reason, when this 10 CD collection came out, I bought it. If anyone thinks Hank Williams was one of the greatest preformers ever based on his hits, YOU NEED TO HEAR THESE CD's. His versions of songs such as "Cool Water" "The Old Home" "Rocking Chair Money" and many others make his hits seem tame. The music on this boxset is of course wonderful , but , what bugs me is the fact that the packaging scratches the cd's everytime they're taken out and put back . As someone who looks after his cd collection , I've had to record the music on this boxset to avoid further deterioration of the cd's ( absolutely crazy ) .If I had known that Mercury Records had made such a fundamental error with the packaging , I would not have bought this boxset . For the price they're charging , you have the right to expect a quality product that will last , but , I'm afraid that's not the case with this boxset .

Any previous Hank Williams Sr. issues have been rendered irrelevent by this set. The sound quality is superior, the accomanying books are out of this world, and the music itself speaks so purely and simply for itself. Hank Williams was an enormously popular entertainer in his time. There is a veritable cornucopia of modern artists who owe, and have expressed, a huge debt to Hank's music as being resposible for their own relevence to popular music. There will never, and can never, be another Hank Williams. I suggest that one experience the real deal here.Free Music Review: Amazing

Anyone with an interest in the History of American Folk Music; is required to obtain a copy of this issue; to include in their personal CD libraries. It is a must. For those who just like Hank Williams and Country Music, in general, it is money well spent.
And, thanks to Amazon.com, those who haven't got the money for the Box Set, may still have the opportunity of listening to the grand selection of Hank Sound Clips available at their website.
So, all in all, it cannot possibly receive a rating less than 5, which means 'the best'

True, to really own the "complete" Hank Williams you have to get the Health and Happiness and Grand Old Opry sets, and if you're really obsessive you can search out the alternate takes of a few cuts, but this box set is unreal. It's put together like the pope's bible, for God's sake. It's particularly great to have all the demos in one place- I agree with the other reviewer who said Hank alone with his guitar was all the proof anyone needs to hear the genious of the man. Absolutely worth the money.
