Free Music Notes for The Unreleased RecordingsFree Music Review: A Tidal Wave of Good Fortune for Hank's Fans Hit: 5 Stars
Unbelievable! This is like finding the end of a rainbow for Hank's fans. Joe Palmaccio (credited with sound restoration and mastering) deserves to have his picture printed on folding money. I have over the years come into the possession of unreleased performances (like a different version of this collection's first mind-blowing cut "Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain," which even has another verse); but the sound quality is nothing as good as that of most all of the songs on here; some of it sounds just like a studio record from the period.
And like a studio record, Hank is singing each song 110%. The hair on the back of my neck was up from beginning to end. It's a great day for Hank's fans to be alive! I'm one of the devoted fan who would have walked across Texas in July just for the privilege of paying 10 times what these recordings cost, and still considered myself lucky; this has to be the best buy in music history. Thankfully "The Complete Hank Williams" (which is friggin excellent, by the way) was misnamed. If "On Top of Old Smoky" or "I'll Sail My Ship Alone" don't become current radio hits, then there's little hope for mankind left. The opener on Disc 2, "I Can't Help it if I'm Still in Love With You," again, is worth the cost of this whole collection, as would be just all the banter and talking on them. What a treasure trove.
A heartfelt 'thank you' to all who made this friggin incredible collection possible. It's the best thing to happen to Hank's fans in at least a decade; I feel sorry for all Hank's fans who never got to hear this collection; this must be how winning the lottery feels.

FINALLY! The Mother's Best Flour tracks are being leaked out (over 3 years). An odd sort of way to release them, but good in that releasing all of the tracks at once might be too overwhelming.
These songs sound great, and make you feel as though you're sitting next to the old Phillips radio while cookin' up breakfast and enjoying some of the finest country music ever served up. Hearing Hank do some songs NOT written by himself is a treat, and really gives the listener a feel for the overall landscape of country and hillbilly music at that time. The sound restoration is awesome; you can hear objects being dropped in the background during performances, people coughing in the studio, and other little hidden treats...the sound quality is that good.
Don't get me wrong here; I love these songs by themselves, but my only gripe with the collection is that they cut them from who-knows-how-many of the original full-length shows. I'm hoping that Jett Williams and Time Life make at least one of the remaining two releases a collection of some of his COMPLETE SHOWS, including all of the between-song banter and hello's and goodbye's. I've heard quite a few of these, and hearing Hank joke about hunting trips, his own (and others) lack of hair, or cutting it up with his Cowboys and Cousin Louie Buck would make for a GREAT three-disc set; uncorrupted and just as it was meant to be heard. PLEASE do this, Jett and Time! Then I'd REALLY feel like I'm listening to ol' Hank selling that flour all over again....

The Legendary Hank Williams - 4 CD Set
I concur with most of the reviews from people who could not find enough adjectives to describe this wonderful collection. However, in reading the reviews it occured to me that many if not all of you are not aware that there are indeed 3 complete Mothers Best shows available from Amazon dot com. I have provided a link to it. Or just key in The Legendary Hank Williams, as there are other sets with the same title, scroll down to the one featuring Hank in a white suit, with a blue background and is put out by Readers Digest.
It's a 4 CD set and includes the previously released 3 CD's in this set, but also a bonus CD featuring three complete shows. No new Hank songs, but to hear the complete show featuring Hanks own format and comical banter is priceless and the one CD is in my opinion, a bargain for the $44 price tag. I have put one set away in safe keeping and use the other set for everyday listening.
I'll give you a preview of what you're about to hear. On one of my favorite shows, after a spirited rendition of Sally Goodin' by Jerryy Rivers, Louie Buck (along with some of Hank's band members) tries to coax Hank into taking the fiddle and playing a breakdown himself, you'll enjoying hearing Hank squirm on that one.
Do yourself a favor and order a set for yourself, or maybe a Christmas gift to some lucky Hank Williams fan.
Free Music Review: Absolute must have. Hit: 5 Stars
This collection took years of court litigation to finally release. One wonders why before they have their first listen to this wonderful collection of old Hank Sr Live sessions recorded originally on acetates that sat forgotten somewhere for years, and very nearly were thrown out. First, these sessions were recorded for when Hank was away on the road, but they have all the live banter and personality that are missing from most Hank collections. This box set almost doubles the amount of songs in the Williams catelouge, and has some real weepers on it, but also some incredible live versions of songs that you will never find anywhere else. I was very taken with his Live versions of "Cold Cold Heart' and 'I'm so Lonesome', which bring out inflections in his voice that the album sessions seemed to have missed. His version of " Blue eyes crying in the Rain" is worth the collection alone. I also enjoyed hearing his harmonies on some of the gospel numbers with members of the Drifting Cowboys. One track that stands out is "Lonely tombs". If you are looking for the Hank Williams that sang "Hey Good Lookin", you won't really find that attitude here, but his ease and personality really shine in the between song dialouge, and you won't really find that anywhere else. Here is the Singin Kid, that sold bags of peanuts, and played medicine shows. Here is the Hank that the people loved. The Hank that everyone seems to have forgotten about.
Free Music Review: HANK WILLIAMS, LIVE ON RADIO Hit: 5 Stars
A piece of country music history from the archives, from the one and only Hank Williams, unreleased recordings dated 1951!. The first track Hank wails on is, "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain", and there's only one way to describe this and that is simply put "stunning", as Roger Miller said it in a song, sorry,Willie, and stunning is this brand new release from Time Life loaded with 54 live radio broadcast recordings from Hank with a 39 page booklet with rare pictures and inner notes with accurate descriptions of each song and the sound is really admirable, as good as the studio recordings or maybe slightly better, Hank's haunting voice and unique style stand out on here purely alive and vital, as if you were right there in the audience. Another notable song you will hear on this is the first version of, I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You), as Hank tells it, "nobody's heard this one, nobody but me and the record company". A couple other stand out tunes are, the "old" version of,On Top Of Old Smokey, and Bob Nolan's, Cool Water. There should be absolutely no complaints about this compilation folks, the cover is solid like a hardback book, the three disc are placed in secure holders, and the 39 page book is binded down secure and tight, a must and a great collectors item for Hank Williams followers and country music listeners, thumbs up and thanks for Time Life, let the Hank Williams legend live on.
