Free Music Review: Makes me feel 13 again
Hit: 5 Stars

I know I'm 70, but Hank Williams has made me feel like I'm 13 again with the release of these 54 songs from 1951 radio shows. This is the most pleasant listening experience I've had in years. When these shows were made, I was busy collecting as much Hank Williams music as I could afford. At 79 cents for a new 45 rpm release and a quarter for used records out of jukeboxes, that was a major purchase for a kid making it on a weekly allowance. I am familiar with many of the Acuff-Rose songs made famous by others, particularly Roy Acuff and Johnnie & Jack, but Hank adds a special touch to these numbers. A real shocker is announcer Cousin Louie Buck's spoof of the Ink Spots when Hank sings "If I Didn't Love You". That would be unthinkable on the air in 2008, but I understand how it was OK in 1951. These performances lend more credibility to my claim that I was lucky to know country music when it really was country. It doesn't get any better than this. The exchanges between Hank and Cousin Louie Buck and the band demonstrate what a truly great man Hank was. Despite his poverty stricken youth, his lack of education, poor health, and self-inflicted problems, he was a genius who understood us humans better than most of us do. We already knew that but this box confirms it again.

Free Music Review: A Great Tribute For Hank".
Hit: 5 Stars

To Those Who Have Never Heard Hank Sing "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain", This 1 Song Alone, Pays For This Collection.. This Is Absolutely 1 Of Mr. Fred Rose and Hanks Greatest.. I Am A 70 Year Old North Georgia 'Purist Country Music Fan', Former Flat Top Guitarist For C/W Bands, And In Our Home We Worship, The Father, The Son and Hank Williams.. The Release Of This Collection Of Hanks 'Mothers Best Radio Transcriptions, To Me, Is The Greatest Event To Happen In "Traditional-Country Music" Since The Invention Of The Gram-A- Phone.. I Acquired This Collection Some Years Back On CD, Via The Bootleg Route and Believe Me, This Release Is A Gem, In Sound, Production and "Price".. My Bootleg Set, Does Not Compare Near To The Sound Of This Collection... I Cant Wait To Add To This Set, And I Would Walk 50 Miles Of Red Mud Roads; To Add This Collection Of Hanks To My Music Library. Mighty Fine Thing To Be Offered To Hanks Millions Of Fans. You Cant Go Wrong.... My Only regret is "I Wish They Had Been Released In Full Form And In Chronological Order; The Way They Were Originally Cut On Each Mornings Show, Instead Of All Jumbled Up and With Most Of The Stage Talk Left Out"... But It Is Still A Blessing, Just To Have Them. Not A Complaint, Only A Wish. Thanks. JV.

Free Music Review: Country and Western Holy Grail
Hit: 5 Stars

The first installment of a three year project of what will eventually be a 143 song release of the Mother's Best Radio Programs leaves the listener speechless.
It's that good!
Although a few of these tracks surfaced in bootleg form in the 80s,this is such a great mastering job it's like hearing Hank for the fist time.
Of particular interest is the heartfelt rendering of numerous Gospel standards with full background harmonies not heard in the MGM studio recordings.
In addition,Hank's Martin Guitar is mixed way up front and adds a rich musical depth to the procedings.
Songs like Hank's "Dear John" and his interpretation of "Cherokee Boogie " clearly point the way toward primitive Rockabilly.
The packaging and design are first rate, and appropriately compliment this treasure chest of so much cultural and musical significance.
Colin Escott's in-depth track by track annotation clearly sets the bar at a stratopheric level. It simply doesn't get better than this.
I only hope that the other installments are moved up on the release schedule so we don't have to wait any longer than necessary for the completion of this masterwork.

Free Music Review: YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH HANK
Hit: 5 Stars

If you're a Hank fan, get this thing. When I heard this set was being issued, I thought "how much Hank Williams does a person need to own?" When I heard The Unreleased Recordings, I knew the answer to that question - you can never have too much Hank Williams.

A lot of it does sound like the recorded versions of songs, but there's so much more - songs never heard before and Hank Williams' spoken patter is so charming and personal. And so full of it. That's what's great about it.

If you're thinking of buying Hank's greatest hits, get this set instead. If you buy the greatest hits, you'll want more. With this 3 disc set, you get many of the greatest hits and much more. Saves you money, baby!

If you like new country music, buy this set. You'll hate these tunes. Then you can take it to your used CD store, and trade it in for Kenny Chesney, Hank II and Hank III drivel, and somebody who likes real country music can get this wonderful collection for a cheaper price.

Free Music Review: A great find
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been prodded by Amazon to review this product. I do not like to do this. It is a breacvh of my privacy and a bother. Anyone who was a old country fan much less a Hank Williams would jump at finding this gem so I decided to be fair and write an opinion. I try to have a good collection of country music especially until it went to rock and roll with all the veneer and polish of Stratocruisers and drums. Hank just needed his voice, his instrument and his soul to make his music. When I grew up in the 50's I was told that country music died when Hank did. I was from the north and never heard Hank Williams. Johnny Cash moved me to country and that brought me to the King of Country.
With that said as a background, This is one of the best collections I have ever bought and I would recommend it to all but especially someone who wanted to hear what the best was all about. I love every cut. I look to other unrealeased recordings that are still out there.
