Free Music Notes for The Unreleased RecordingsFree Music Review: hair-raising Hit: 5 Stars
I had doubts about this 'recently unearthed' set, but after listening to it, I can compare it to the 'Million Dollar Quartet' album I found 26 years ago. The music contained in this box set is, for the most part, as hair-raising as Hank's later country releases, perhaps more so, considering how young and raw Williams was when he made these recordings. The blues of Montgomery were still strongly infused into this music, and during Hank's finest performances, his brand of country blues is reminiscent of fellow Montgomery native Billie Holiday. For anyone interested in Hank Wiliams, this is required listening.
Free Music Review: Nobody's never heard this. Hit: 5 Stars
Back in 1951, Hank Williams had a radio show sponsored by Mother's Best. The shows were recorded at the radio station onto transcription discs, and several of these discs survive today. The sound quality is generally excellent, with some of the songs actually sounding "fuller" than Hank's MGM recordings. Many of the songs in this collection were not commercially recorded by Hank, with the majority of them being gospel songs or "hymns", as Hank called them. Hank Williams was and will always be the greatest country singer of all time, and the chance to hear some "new" songs by him is a treat indeed.
Free Music Review: Hank Rules!!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This new release is a revelation! This CD set is better sounding than most of the official releases of Hank's singles. What really impressed me is the use of his background singers & musicians the Drifting Cowboys. They play excellent live and the vocals are full and warm, really complementing to Hank's unique vocal style. This is the greatest purchase I've made in years! I just don't have anything bad to say about it, especially when many of the songs have never been released/performed by Hank before. This is a MUST if you like Hank or country music in general.
Free Music Review: Hank - a" Masterpiece of Music" recorded live in an informal setting - Simply Outstanding!!! Hit: 5 Stars
A Big Amen to all the other reviewers who gave this a 5 star rating!!!
This is 3 cd's of Hank and the Drifting Cowboys performing live on a radio show, back in 1951. Its informal, you get to hear them talk, and tell stories and joke, and etc. This is a great release, one of the best releases of all-time!!! I would estimate 60 percent or more of this music is pure southern, country Gospel. These recordings reveal Hank in a different "light" than all the previously released recordings. This is a "must-have" for any Hank Williams fan period!!!
Free Music Review: Merry Christmas Hit: 5 Stars
Song Material: Outstanding.
Sound Quality: Better than should be expected. (Better or equal to his studio recordings.)
Happiness with Purchase: Ecstatic.
I equate this find to - let's say - the Beatles had recorded 90 songs during their White Album Sessions only to have(we all thought)the tapes lost to a studio fire started by a sleeping - stoned Yoko burning cigarette butt. Fast forward Thirty years. Wait a second, did anybody think to check John's car Trunk. What a find. Run don't walk to purchase this set.
