Free Music Notes for This Time AroundFree Music Review: I have been converted! Hit: 5 Stars
As a former non-Hanson fan, I am proud to write this review to tell you all how AWESOME this album is. These boys have grown up, their music has matured, and their "sound" is infinitely better. Gone are the little boy voices and trite song lyrics. They have been replaced by a real understanding of interesting chord structure, fascinating lyrics, and driving rhythms. I thought I would highlight some of the "best of" on this album (although there isn't really a weak track). "This Time Around"--This song starts out so beautifully, but quickly escalates into a driving blues tune. Taylor uses great diminished seventh chords in a chorus you won't soon forget! "Runaway Run"--Rumor has it that this song was written in separate parts by the trio, and that the bridge was actually written for another song. However, it doesn't sound thrown together. One of the catchier songs, it also has some of the more romantic lyrics on the CD. "Hand in Hand"--The trio spreads its wings, incorporating the guitar prowess of Jonny Lang with the gorgeous voices of Issac and Taylor to produce perhaps the best track on the album. "In the City"--The tune is driving...John Popper is amazing...but what I most wanted to know when listening to this track was "How does somebody at 17 know so much about infidelity?" The lyrics are biting, sarcastic, and very deep. This track is best played very loudly on a car stereo! :-) "Love Song"--when I first heard this on the B-side of the single, I didn't like it. But now that I listen to ir more and more, I realize that is simply gorgeous. The lyrics show a real maturity, because we all "can love right and love wrong." "Save Me"--This song is great because of one reason--Taylor Hanson's vocal chords. He is quickly becoming a sensational rock singer. His voice is sometimes gritty...but it is always captivating. "Dying to be Alive"--The Hanson trio hired Rose Stone and her choir to add some kick to this song, and it worked beautifully. If you have been reluctant to buy a Hanson CD, please don't miss a great opportunity to discover this group all over again. This is not the same Hanson as "MMM-Bop." Not even close. This is a mature, kickin' rock band with a great future.
Free Music Review: And here's another review... Hit: 5 Stars
First off, I would just like to share the fact that I was never a hanson fan. In fact, I was annoyed at their high pitched voices when they first came out. But when I heard their new album (by accident really...), I decided these boys will survive the music industry with their great talent. Neways, here's my song by song review! 1.You never know - catchy catchy beat, you'll start singing along in no time. 2. If only - This is your teen love poppy song. Very upbeat though. 3. This time around-this is just a cool song. My favorite part is where Taylor says "do you know why I'd die" Lol... 4. Runaway run - I love the title of this song. It's not your usualy love song (where they go "oh I'll never break your heart because I love you forever" Yadi yadi yada. They lyrics are GREAT for overrated theme of love. 5. Save me - Good ... good ... voice ... So good it makes me want to save him. lol. Catchy tune too. 6. Dying to be alive - the song is pure genius, dying to be alive, an oxy-moron in itself. The lyrics for this song is AMAZING. Very inspirational. My fav is the last sentence "You can't just leave your life up to fate, you got to turn it around before it's too late". Yah, I'm kinda big on lyric. :o) 7. Can't stop - this is a fun song. 8. I Wish that I was there - It took me a while to figure out that's zac's voice. I couldn't believe he's voice is so mature when he's younger than the rest. And it's very good too. As passionate and filled with feeling as Taylor and Issac's. 9. Love song - I LOVE THIS SONG. The verses are beautiful. It tells a story rather than just the song. I wonder who mary is. lol. Issac did a great job too. 10. Sure about it - the lyrics are against, oxy-moron. How creative are they huh? Good beats too. 11.Hand in hand - Good tune. A good collaboration of the voices! 12. In the city - AWESOME song. I luv the beat. Almost make me want to say, "yeah, I do love you". Almost. ^-^ 13. A song to sing - nice lyrics. Nice voices. There's no weak track in this album. I think this is my only cd in which I don't use the skip button. wow...
Free Music Review: I'm Confused Hit: 5 Stars
A year after Hanson's second album "This Time Around" was released, it still continues to be one of my favorites. It is filled with a variety of different sounds, from pop to rock to wailing guitars to romantic lyrics, from haunting piano solos to rocking drums, from voices filled with lust, to emotional soulful singing. To put it simply, I love listening to this album. No, I don't have a picture of Hanson plastered on my wall or keep a photo of them in my wallet, I just plainly love the music. So this is what confuses me, how can people not like this band and this album? Or at least have respect for the fact that they wrote every track on this album and co-produced it? This album is far from what their 1997 release Middle of Nowhere was. It is a much more mature album which showcases how their talent has improved over the years. Highlights (in my opinion) would be: This Time Around - The title track, the chorus is great and I think it is the perfect song, great tempo, great mix of ballad like piano and guitar and drums rocking out. Save Me - A sweet cry to someone who you care about. I really like the tempo on this one too, soft and nice, yet not quite a ballad. Dying to Be Alive - The choir on this sounds amazing and the lyrics are great. Love Song - I really really love this song a lot. Maybe too slow for some people, but it is a nice romantic song for anyone who has a broken heart. Hand in Hand - I love Isaac's voice on this, great song to listen to if you're mad at an ex. A Song to Sing - A great song to end the album, just the piano and the three voices. It has a deep message, you have to listen to it more than once to understand. I hope that Hanson's career take them very far. I know that I have deeply enjoyed listening to their music and being touched by it. It seems that that is not what is important anymore in the music industry, the fact that musicians write music from the heart. That is such a shame because they are the ones missing out on a great album.
Free Music Review: Best young rock/pop band in the world Hit: 5 Stars
This Time Around is an excellent album of 13 original songs all written and performed by the popular American musical brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson and released in May 2000. I bought the Australian version of TTA (which has 2 bonus tracks :Lonely Again and Smile) in June 2000 and I love it. What is so good about Hanson is that they are talented songwriters who have always worked together as a team since they were very young, and they display impressive growth in their abilities with each new recording. This teamwork results in beautiful harmony singing, and now that they are young adults they can also sing authentic heartache songs with more soul than most other current bands. Taylor performs most lead vocals - he has a charismatic and distinctive soulful voice making him one of the best rock singers I have heard in recent years. And he was only sixteen when this record was made! Particularly good is his performance on the rousing title song This Time Around, and the wonderful gospel-styled Dying To Be Alive. Isaac shines on the beautiful ballad Love Song and provides strong lead guitar on the rather-heavier-than-anything-they've-done-before track In The City , while the melancholy album closer A Song To Sing is one of their best slow songs. Drummer Zac sings a great song of his called Wish That I Was There. For pop fans eager to hear more 1997-era Hanson, there is a reprise of fashionable "scratch" sounds on the album's catchy hit single If Only, which reached the Australian Top 10 in April 2000. Despite this chart action, TTA was not a huge commercial success, probably because Hanson's sound had matured such a lot since their mega-successful 1997 album Middle Of Nowhere. DO NOT LET THIS DETER YOU!! This is a superior and very-listenable pop/rock record with a more organic feel than their previous discs. It can be enjoyed by music fans of all ages - adults as well as teenagers. Highly Recommended.
Free Music Review: Best Music of all time Hit: 5 Stars
OK, after reading a few of these reviews, I was overwhelmed at the fact that most people who have passed over Hanson's music because they were "long-haired and sang like girls" now love their music. I know that there are tons of fans that are over the age of 25 that love Hanson, so people really shouldn't be ashamed of loving their music. Hanson has always had the potential of writing songs, and this CD really shows how they really poured their heart out into all their songs. I own the imported album, the extra songs are worth it. They really left their MMMboping days and this album is worth every penny. It's good to know that people aren't passing them up. Their music is so amazing, no one sounds like them, their music is so unique. 1. You Never Know - has that rock and roll edge to it 2. If Only - Pop rock awesome song! 3. This Time Around - love the piano and the guitar solo just excellent 4. Runaway Run - just love it! pop/r&b/blues 5. Save Me - Christian/gospel edged song.. Taylor just sings with awesome emotions 6. Dying to be Alive - touching lyrics "on the ground just crying out" and the choir is wonderful 7. Can't Stop - has the most Pop sound on this album awesome mix of music 8. Wish That I Was There - Zac's soulful voice, great song!! 9. Love Song - Isaac and Taylor really harmonize beautifully.. love the guitar and piano 10. Sure About It - this is just a great song, Taylor sounds great and they harmonize wonderfully 11. Hand In Hand - Ike really sings beautifully, excellent lyrics and guitar was wicked 12. In The City - rock and roll!! Gotta love this song .. the guitar solo.. and the drums.. 13. Song To Sing - beautiful ballad.. they give it all they've got! Over all this album doesn't disappoint.. it's the best out there! Anyone without it needs it!!!
