Free Music Notes for This Time AroundFree Music Review: Hanson: the greatest thing in music since the Beatles. Hit: 5 Stars
I decided a long time ago that Hanson was the best thing that's happened to music since the Beatles. The boys continue to solidify that belief in me almost on a daily basis. How big a fan am I? I'm still in debt from the 5000-mile cross-country trip I took in June 2000 to Hanson's hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, to see what kind of town could possibly produce such an amazing trio of musical brothers (the answer is an equally amazing town.) My car now sports the custom license plate "NTHMOE" ("In the MOE" - MOE is Hanson's official fan club.) And on July 30, 2000, one of my dreams came true - I got to see Hanson live in concert at Seattle's Moore Theater. I am a 24-year-old guy, and I never fail to get misty-eyed or just plain come away totally happy after listening to This Time Around. Although I will always love Middle of Nowhere for the now-classic Hanson album it is, This Time Around is an amazing departure from that album. 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys - to whom Hanson are often unfairly compared - sound the same today as they did three years ago. Hanson's music, on the other hand, has matured right along with the band members. I keep having to remind myself that lead singer Taylor is just 17. With his amazing, beautiful, precociously soulful voice, you would think he has half a century of musical experience. Would you believe oldest member Isaac is now 20 years old?! He can vote and legally drink alcohol in less than one year from now! Does that sound like the "MMMBop boys?" Well, it is. To the fans like me who had the foresight to stick with our favorite Tulsans, YOU ROCK!! Skeptics, give Hanson the chance - and respect - they so richly deserve. If you still can't recognize and appreciate the boys' talents, you simply are too closed-minded to look past MMMBop. You don't know what you're missing!
Free Music Review: Looking For "A Song to Sing?" Try Hanson! Hit: 5 Stars
I know what you're thinking. Hanson? Well, I'm not ashamed to say that they are still my favorite boy band. And this is by far their best album. If you don't own it, you seriously have to buy it- now! Why? Well, I'll tell you.1. You Never Know: This is one of those songs that you keep humming unintentionally until someone on the tube gives you a weird look. It keeps you interested and tapping your toes right into the next one. (5 Stars) 2. If Only: The first single released from this album, "If Only" displays how very talented the guys are. It has great drums and vocals. (5 stars) 3. This Time Around: You CAN'T say they didn't give their all on this one. It's truly a great song and has yet another memorable melody. (5) 4. Runaway Run: This is one of my ultimate favorite songs of all time, Hanson or otherwise. "And I waited.. for you" I love how it goes from slow to fast and it has the best sound to it. This is a five star song if I ever heard one. 5. Save Me:The well chosen second single from the album got little attention and plummeted Hanson into the musical abyss... sadly. A beautiful ballad. (5 stars) 6. Dying to Be Alive: "I didn't know her, but I know why she died" Say what you like about this, it's one of the strongest points of the album- deservingly. (5 stars.) 7. Can't Stop: "Tick tock, tick tock goes the clock now." Well, even if is signifying Hanson's 15 minutes of fame are up, it doesn't matter to me. This is very rock-influenced but fits nicely in the album (4 stars.) 8-12.Wish That I Was There: Here starts the area of album that drags. I don't dislike this, it just has never struck me as great, either. It's worth trying once. (3 stars each) 13. A Song to Sing: Possibly my favorite of the album, it's so simple yet beautiful. You have to love this song! (5 stars.) A must-own album for any pop/rock fan.
Free Music Review: Definetly a Must Buy. Hit: 5 Stars
This Time Around by Hanson - great album. My favourite song from the album is "Runaway Run". Here's a review of each song one by one. The description's of the songs, are my favourite part's to the songs:1) You Never Know 5/5 The backing vocals on the line 'Consider well the kind of stream where you've been fishing' and the lead vocals throughout. 2) If Only 4/5 The harmonica solo, the catchy chorus. Great lyrics. 3) This Time Around 5/5 The mixed-tempo feel of the song and the line 'Do yuo know why I'd die?'-feel your herat hit your skull. 4)Runaway Run 5/5 Just about the whole up-tempo song, but probably the lyrics in the middle eight: 'I can feel every thought that you're thinking' You can feel your heart stopping at the lyrics and the emotion in the voice. 5)Save me 4/5 The high vocals (listen and you'll know what I mean) 6)Dying to be alive 4/5 The very end where they sing along to a piano. Classic. 7)Can't Stop 5/5 The guitar intro, the drum solo after the middle eight, the high notes, the catchy chorus. Probably the best track on the album. 8) I wish that I was there 4/5 The second time the lead singer sings 'And you make me feel' (sung over the chorus). Brilliant. 9)Love song: 4/5 The amazing introduction and so-beautifuly-sung lyrics. 10)Sure about it: 5/5 The soul in the singers (Taylor) voice in the first verse. Just listen to him sing 'She's a picture of a heart of gold' 11)Hand in hand 4/5 Definatley the guitar solo. Classic, maybe the best 7 seconds of guitar on the album. 12) In the City 5/5 the 'I'm gonna ask you once again' Part and the Steven Tyler screaming at the end. 13) Song to sing 5/5 The excellent lyrics and harmonies and Taylor's 'oh oh oh' bit after the chrous first and last time. His voice will melt your heart.
Free Music Review: The Real Thing Hit: 5 Stars
Anyone who dismisses Hanson as just another one of those boy groups is ignoring the authentic talent of these three kids. They are not pretty boys in leather pants and gloves lipsinking on some VH1 special, these are accomplished musicians who have created an album that reduces their commercial smash debut to mere playfulness. "This Time Around" has a gritty rock and blues sound that rises above their debut album's somewhat quirky production and teeny-bopper flavor. "This Time Around" is the real thing; it sounds like everyone just let the brothers do their thing without demanding that they create another chart topping pop song like "MMMbop." The album launches with a series of hyper rockers, a couple of which threaten to dethrone rock giants like The Black Crowes or Rolling Stones. The playing is as taut, lively and confident as if they've been recording together for decades. While that in and of itself is a sign of this young trio's maturity, surprisingly soulful ballads like the beautiful "Save Me" or the piano driven "A Song to Sing," destroy any doubts as to this band's intention to create GOOD music, not just the stuff of pop charts and radio hits. Unlike most follow-ups to hugely successful albums, there is no evidence on "This Time Around" of any pressure to force out accessible pop tunes. Instead, the Hanson brothers recorded this album for themselves. That's a much more honest approach than most modern bands, and the advantages of that attitude are proven by the collection of consistently good songs on "This Time Around." Unlike the flood of so-called "boy bands," 'N Synch or Backstreet Boys and all the rest of them, we are likely to find ourselves listening to this album ten or twenty years from now.
Free Music Review: What a comeback! Hit: 5 Stars
This, out of all five albums these guys have put out, must be the best. If it isn't, I would certainly like to hear it because I honestly don't think it gets better than this. All the songs are very, very wonderful and thought-provoking, emotion-stirring, and so full of energy I can't help but singing along. "Save Me" brings tears to my eyes. The words in the second verse that go "I'm on my knees/ you're all I'm living for" pull my heartstrings to matter how many times I hear it; those exact words have been told to me by a dear friend, and to hear it immortalized in a song is simply awesome. "Runaway Run" and "If Only" are songs that bring to mind images of riding in a convertable at 80 miles-per-hour down a desert highway with the radio blasting; they rock and that's all there is to it. "Song to Sing" seems to be giving us a glimpse into their hearts, and they are trying to tell us that they appreciate their fans, that they understand, and that they are "looking for my radio, so that I might find a heart to follow" or in other words they are looking for someone to idolize and love just as we, the fans, do them; it's quite a statement for three guys all under 20. Yet somehow, despite all the rave reviews and incredible music, this album simply tanked. Why, is completely beyond me. This entire album clearly shows that they are not ready to back down, desipte what the market is telling them, that they plan to stay around for as long as they possibly can, and that every minute they spent working on it throughout 1999 was more than worth the effort. If I could give it more than five stars, I definitely would. Just buy this album; it might just be the best musical purchase you'll make this year.
