Free Music Notes for This Time AroundFree Music Review: Top Three Hit: 5 Stars
As far as Rock's best albums, I can list the top three; The Beatles 'Rubber Soul', The Beach Boys 'Pet Sounds', and Hanson's 'THIS TIME AROUND'. With styles rooted in gospel, rock, pop, blues and musical themes heard last in the sixties, Hanson made sure their album is fresh, everytime you listen to it. The album starts with soulful 'You Never Know', taking you right into the toe tapping, spirit lifting 'If Only'. Then into gospel-esque 'This Time Around' and pure rock n roll 'Runaway Run'. Then comes the first slow song, with Taylor's voice melting you the entire way through on the bluesy 'Save Me'. Then it's back to the boy's gospel roots with Rose Stone and a choir on 'Dying To Be Alive'. The boys spice things up again with pure pop songs like 'Can't Stop' and simplistic but wonderful 'Wish That I Was There'. Then we're launched into the powerful layering of 'Love Song', and brought to our senses with the gutsy, rocky 'Sure About It'. Then the trio shows that they're no longer 'MMMbop' sugary sweet, with their Rock N Rollest song yet, 'In The City'. Then to wrap up the album, and leav you with your jaw slack saying, "That was WHO?", the Tulsa Boys exit with the soulful tear jerker, 'A Song To Sing'.
Free Music Review: This CD is TOTALLY da bomb! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is sooo cool! I have to admit that after "MMMBop" became big and then it seemed that Hanson was gone as fast as they came, I was sure that they were doomed to repeat the past. I was WRONG! They hadn't gone, but took a leave to create one of the best CD's of all time, "This Time Around". It is a lot different than "Middle of Nowhere" b/c they had a lot of pop in their first CD, and with the follow-up, it has more of a rock feel to it. I absolutely love the messages in some of the songs, like "This Time Around"'s message of, at least what I got from it, freedom and holding on to your rights, kinda following your heart rather than your mind. I also liked the lyrics to "Dying To Be Alive", b/c it made me think about my life and I feel that I should live day to day, rather than "I have so much time to take on the world." All of the lyrics are wonderfully written by the boys themselves and "A Song To Sing" is a great way to wind down and round out the CD from all of the upbeat, rocking fast songs, since it is slow and very mellow. I stay up 'til 5 A.M. just to get my fill! I can't stop spinnin' it!
Free Music Review: Stop rolling your eyes and try it out... Hit: 5 Stars
Flipping through the TV channels one day, I saw the "This Time Around" video playing on Disney. It was a catchy yet somewhat edgy-sounding rock song, so I stopped. Looking at the band, I thought, "Hmmm, they kind of look like Hanson, but they have brown hair and there are too many of them." Waiting until the ending credits, I was surprised to find that it was, indeed, Hanson with Johnny Lang adding his guitar talent. Yesterday I, a 27 year old, purchased the CD and am pleased to report that the majority of songs in this collection are solid entries. It is clear that Hanson is maturing, developing their obvious talents, and taking their music to a new level. Please don't make the mistake of lumping them in with the current buffet of teen fluff out there; more than one song on this CD could easily become rock classics along the lines of favorites by Queen, John Mellencamp, and, yes, Melissa Ethridge. ;-) I was overwhelmed by the last track, "A Song to Sing." The group is accompanied only by a piano and the lyrics are achingly earnest. An impressive work by a band who is becoming increasingly hard to dismiss.
Free Music Review: Hanson - not just a "pretty" face Hit: 5 Stars
Hi, my name is Amy, I'm 28 years old and I am a Hanson fan. But I wasn't always like this. I used to be ignorant of Hanson--Ike, Tay, and Zac who? But then my life changed in March 2000 when I saw some new video, "This Time Around" on MuchMusic. I thought the music was great (not to mention that these guys looked good to). I wondered who sang it. To my horror I learned it was Hanson. I tried to resist, but it was too late. The damage was done--the song was stuck in my head. Worse yet, I couldn't overcome the craving to own this cd. So I bought it. But I couldn't stop there. It was too good--I just had to have all of the band's music that I could get my hands on. From then on I listened to TTA over and over again, cursing the fact that there was nothing else as good as Hanson to listen to on the radio and t.v. (is it okay to voice my opinion that most of the pop music played over and over again on the radio is "doggie doo-doo"?). I couldn't escape it--I was being sucked into the melodies, the voices and words that made this cd so good. Hi. My name is Amy, I'm 28 years old, and (sigh) I AM A HANSON FAN!
Free Music Review: I LOVE HANSON! Hit: 5 Stars
My God they have done it again! "Middle of Nowhere" was an awesome album, but "This Time Around" is....there are no real words that can describe the feeling I get when I listen to this CD! All of the songs are full of meaning and tell a story and that is what I like, I hate songs that are about nothing! I also love how Hanson songs are deep, some people think that can be cheesy, but it's not! These Tulsa MEN are writing about what every girl wants to hear, the sensative side of a man (At least I know that is what I like)! I still remember the day I bought "Middle of Nowhere" and listened to it for hours and even though Hanson went away for about 2 to 3 years I have always loved them! There music speaks to the heart and the soul, that is something that not a lot of artists can do! There music is sexy, soulful, pop, funk, anything and everything (well except rap)! I can't wait to see more from Hanson! They are incredible and know what there fans really want! I am proud of them for the accomplishments they have made and look forward to more of them! Everyone buy this CD, it is "THE BEST"!
