This album completely blew me away the very first time I heard it. While some may say, "wow, it's so different from what I'd expect from Hanson", I say that it's just a progression from the direction they seemed to be headed. All of their albums have a similar sound, This Time Around just happens to represent where they are, now. Each song in itself is very unique, yet there is a very Hanson-like feel to each one. It starts off to a rocking start with the fast paced "You Never Know" and ends with the slow, somewhat somber piano song, "Song to Sing", a song that I think we can all relate to at some point in our lives. "All I've ever found in reason, is reason just to not believe..." it breaks my heart, everytime I hear it. Each song stands strongly on its own, "Can't Stop"... I dare you to hold still during this one, "In the City", Taylor's vocals blow me away, "Save Me"... wow, even the lighthearted "I Wish That I Was There", the lone Zac song, is so charming. Run, don't walk to buy this album. I promise you, you won't regret it for a second.Free Music Review: Hanson: the three Athenas of the music industry

Middle of Nowhere - how can anyone contend with such a rhythm-and-song inducing piece of art, including Hanson themselves? To be honest, I don't know how they've done it in any way other than simply being the best. The three brothers have definitely equalled, if not surpassed, the remarkable talent displayed in their premier release with the profoundly philosophical lyrics and tunes that they compose solely by themselves. Hearing their fascinating views of love with soulful and heartbreaking ballads such as Save Me and Love Song, life (as demonstrated on songs like Dying To Be Alive, where Rose Stone and the choir guest star), and just about anything else a teenager (or adult for that matter; they exceed well beyond their years) will or has ever experienced is a completely mesmerizing and amazing experience. If you can't tell already, I highly recommend this album to anybody. Not anybody who likes Hanson, or anybody who likes bands that Hanson seems to echo such as the Black Crowes and Creed, but to anybody who has ever listened to music. Hanson has completely blown me away, and I can guarantee you will feel the same way.Free Music Review: amazing

Their first album was good...a little on the "bubble-gum pop" side but good. From the very beginning Hanson has gained respect for writing their own music, playing their own instruments, producing/co-producing their albums...unlike many of today's mainstream "musicians". Then over time, Hanson began to fade. Fans turned their backs and began liking the...dancing boybands and/or blonde croaking (well...only in the case of Britney Spears...), female singers. Finally, after a VERY long wait, Hanson came back with their amazing album "This Time Around". With the release of this album one realizes that way back in the "middle of nowhere" days, we weren't even seeing the full potential of Hanson. "This Time Around" is an amazing album. It is hard not to like every single song on the album, because every song is different. This album proves that Hanson has matured as musicians (not to mention looks...I never though it was possible that Taylor could get any cuter...), as they cross over from the "Pop" genre to Rock. Okay, this is the only CD that I've ever gone out and purchased without hearing more than one song off of it before doing so. And I have NEVER regretted it! Granted, I liked Middle of Nowhere, but as I grew up the CD went farther and farther back in my case. This Time Around, however, is a much mature sound with a greater understanding of chords and deeper lyrics. It's absolutely amazing and sets Hanson apart as a real band (not a boy band...they're way past BSB or NS-CK level) with a real future and real understanding of music. They're young, but maybe that's part of the allure--they're growing up at the same time I am. They are REAL musicians, not just pretty faces dancing around like fools with digitally altered voices in order to make money. The songs on this CD are gorgeous and unforgettable--A Song to Sing and Save Me touch your soul and give you shivers up and down your spine, they're that beautiful. The rest of the CD will have you singing along, and even though it's been two years since This Time Around came out, it's still in regular rotation in my CD player. It was the BEST [money] I ever spent!
