Free Music Notes for What A Night! A Christmas AlbumFree Music Review: A beautifully strong Christmas album--BRAVO, HARRY CONNICK, JR. !!! Hit: 5 Stars
What A Night! A Christmas Album is yet another fine album from the multitalented Harry Connick, Jr. Harry is at his best here. Although the track set isn't completely original, Harry Connick, Jr. keeps it interesting and very entertaining with his excellent arrangements. He pulls this one off very well; even if it isn't his first Christmas album it all sounds fresh and exciting.
"It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" features Harry singing flawlessly; and the jazzy arrangement enhances the natural beauty of this ballad. Jazz aficionados will enjoy this twist on a classic Christmas tune. "What A Night!" has that Sinatra flavor but Harry's use of a jazz-type arrangement places this squarely in his own court; Harry holds his own well and I predict that you'll enjoy "What A Night!" very much.
There are, of course, other highlights on this album. Listen for Harry to really do a very fine job on "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas;" this use of the brass is great and the mixing of minor and major keys works very well. "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas" grows on me every time I listen to it again and that's a very good sign that Harry's talent is still red hot!
"O Come All Ye Faithful" is a more traditional number that Harry Connick, Jr. delivers with panache and a great piano solo with the drums helps the number even more. "Winter Wonderland" sticks more to the usual arrangement although the music is again somewhat jazzy; Harry performs this with great feeling and I am impressed. There's also a fun number called "Santariffic."
"Jingle Bells" helps Harry to mix more traditional tunes with his own jazzy stamp on them to make them all his very own; and I really like "Zat You Santa Claus" which I first heard recorded by the incomparable Louis Armstrong. Louis would be proud to hear Harry's rendition of this cute number! "Song For The Hopeful" ends the album strong as Harry sings so well with Kim Burrell. "Song For The Hopeful" charms me with its beauty and this is a big plus for the album as well.
Overall, Harry Connick, Jr. does not disappoint with his latest Christmas CD. I highly recommend this for Harry's fans; and people who like traditional Christmas songs with a jazzy twist will cherish this CD forever.
Free Music Review: Santarrific!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Harry Connick Jr. knows how to bring the Christmas spirit and he really delivers once again with his 3rd Christmas album "What A Night!".
Harry adds his own flavor to many of the Christmas classics and he has also given us 4 brand new songs that he wrote himself.
My favorite song on the record is "Winter Wonderland" where he does a duet with his 11 year old daughter Kate. There is playful banter in the song and they each sing several verses in their own unique style. Kate has a magnificent voice and looks to have a bright future ahead herself.
His new song, "What A Night!" is brilliant. Very catchy tune that you will be singing in your head long after the album is through playing.
Other favorites include "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year", "Holly Jolly Christmas", "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies", "It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas", "Santarrific", "Zat You Santa Claus", "Jingle Bells", "We Three Kings"
All in all, this cd is splendid and will make you want to grab a hot cup of cocoa, sit by the fire, and be filled with Christmas spirit and love for the season.
Thanks once again Harry!!!
Free Music Review: This is an excellent disc of holiday music from Harry Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent disc of Christmas music by Harry Connick Jr. My favorite track is the beautiful duet with Kim Burrell "Song For The Hopeful". This song is very uplifting. I love the piano playing and the beat on this track. "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" is such a groovy track. I love all the instruments playing on this song. I also love the duet "Santariffic" with Lucien Barbarin. He sounds great on the trombrone here. Kate Connick duets with her dad on the track "Winter Wonderland". She is a pretty good singer. I love the jazzy instrumentals "Dance Of The Sugarplum Fairies" and "We Three Kings". I have never heard these songs performed so well. "Jingle Bells" is an upbeat track. This track is mostly instrumental with some vocals in there. "What A Night" is a new song. This song puts me in a good mood for the Christmas holiday. I love all the tracks on this disc.

This is a beautiful record, musically as well as sonically, not to mention that when Harry swings, he SWINGS his butt off. Check out Jingle Bells! I haven't heard swing as hard driving as that since Basie. This CD is so rich in so many ways. It's one of the best recordings I've heard in a long time -- It's definitely on par or might be even better than Harry's last CD, "Oh My Nola" which is hard to top (check that one out if you haven't already!), kudos to the engineer and producer. The arrangements are stunning -- some of Harry's best writing to date. His playing has matured. It is much more sparse, but he says more with fewer notes. Wonderful choice of classics and new originals. I've heard talk of some interesting bonus tracks... I'll have to search those out. Great work HCJ! Keep the music coming!
Free Music Review: Great Christmas Album! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is a great album especially if you enjoy jazzy spins on Christmas music. It would be a great selection to listen to at a Christmas party because the renditions are upbeat and fun. My favorite song so far on this album is Harry's duet on "Winter Wonderland" with his 11-year-old daughter. I can just picture songs like "What a Night!" in a movie set in New York at Christmas time. They have that type of classic feel to them.
I also own "When My Heart Finds Christmas" by Harry Connick Jr. and I still love listening to that album as I set up my Christmas decorations. With "What a Night! A Christmas Album" I was not disappointed. This will be joining the select few Christmas cds that are timeless enough to come out every year!
