Free Music Notes for What A Night! A Christmas Album

Free Music Review: Connick is GREAT
Hit: 5 Stars

Harry is fantastic. If you want to have an upbeat Christmas, this is it!

Free Music Review: Bought This CD Last XMas Season...I'd Give It A B+ Overall!!
Hit: 4 Stars

I've been a fan of Harry Connick Jr. since 1991, I have quite a few of his CD's
and respect his musicianship immensely as well as his forays into acting.
When I bought this CD during the 2008 Christmas season, I liked 75% of the tracks,
while others lagged and took away from the overall good spirit of the album I thought.
"The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" is defintely a stand out and opens the CD beautifully.
I won't dwell on the lackluster songs other than to say that this CD was probably culled from
past sessions of Christmas material. But there are enough good songs on here for me to recommend
it as an addition to your 2009 Christmas music collection.
I am listening to it now as I type this!

Free Music Review: 4 and a quarter stars, actually
Hit: 4 Stars

If I read the album notes correctly, it appears Harry Connick et al. recorded this album in 10 days. What a magnificent feat. If only, however, he'd spent another 10 days improving the vocals on this album, this project would be much better for it. It's a quibble, to be sure, but still enough to subtract half a star. Also, his conducting the orchestra (hired string, horn players in NYC) sounds wooden and tentative. Another quibble...

My two cents.

Free Music Review: Refreshing presentation on classic christmas music
Hit: 4 Stars

I am always looking for "different" Christmas music and this CD fits that category. It is pleasant to listen to except for the cut that his daughter sings (sorry to Mr Connick and daughter) I didn't care for her voice or her rendition of the song. The rest of the CD was fun and as I said in the title "refreshing" Holiday music.
If you are looking for a more upbeat, fun, very different holiday CD, check out alligator stomp. It's really different.

Free Music Review: Jazzy renditions of classic Christmas tunes....
Hit: 4 Stars

A nice change of pace from typical Christmas albums... different arrangements, tracks that sound looser and more improvised instead of stiffly-practiced and performed, relaxed and upbeat at the same time.

While I don't love every track on this disc, I do enjoy most of them, and that's about what I expect with any album.

Nicely done and refreshing.
