Free Music Notes for The Point! (Deluxe Packaging)Free Music Review: What a Delight! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought the CD and DVD for me originally. I always enjoyed Harry Nilsson's music (funny, since I was only a toddler when his major hits came out!), but I never heard of The Point until I found out about the London stage production on a Monkees fansite (Davy Jones was Oblio and Micky Dolenz was the Count's kid and the Leafman). When I played the DVD for my almost 3 and almost 5 year olds, I couldn't get them to turn off the TV!
Every day, I heard, "Mom, I want to watch Oblio" or "Mom, please play Oblio's music for me!"
That says a lot about how timely this story is, how good this music is, and how well it stood the test of time.
This is terrific Beatles-like pop with a nonpreachy message. My personal favorties are "Me and My Arrow", "Poli High", and "Are You Sleeping?"
If my kids loved this, I'm sure yours will too. I'd rather them listen to this gem of an album than the manufactured, cynical prefabbed garbage they push on kids today.
Free Music Review: This CD has a great point Hit: 5 Stars
When I was little, we had the record and video of this. Recently, a friend got me the CD. I had forgotten how great this CD is. The songs are so beautiful, and the story is great, too. Who doesn't feel like they stand out, or that they have no "point" in life? Oblio, who has no point on his head, and is therefore an outcast. After a journy around the pointless forest, he learns that if everyone else has one, then he must have one too. Whenever I'm feeling down, I pop in this CD and things seem to be a little better and sunnier. And even when I'm not down, I pop it in and everything seems even better than it was before. A must for any collection. Even if you're not sure if you like Harry Nilsson, then buy this. Because you do. You just don't know it yet.
Free Music Review: Don't miss this re-release! Hit: 5 Stars
We owned this on 8-track more years ago than I can count, but it was stolen along with others. About 4 years ago I found a copy and bought a second for a friend, but had to resort to buying one off eBay last year for another friend's little boys, because there were none to be found. Children love the story, which is beautifully narrated by Nilsson himself, but the irony is not lost on adults. Many times I have found myself humming "Me and My Arrow" when walking my dog, or "Think About Your Troubles", which is my favorite song on the whole tape. For Nilsson fans, I don't have to tell you how terrific this CD is; for others, it would be a bargain at twice the price, which, BTW, is what I paid on eBay. Don't let this rerelease pass you by!
Free Music Review: Thank god for the point Hit: 5 Stars
It was winter (I think) of 71 or 72 and I was 11. I was at home sick with the flu and I saw The Point and loved it. I was a somewhat lonely only child so perhaps I had an inherent set of ideas on conformity which where a large part of The Point's subject. It comforted me during this confusing time and taught me some valuable lessons about always re-examining your ideas and values and the preciousness of a loyal friend (ie. Arrow)among other things. Having seen The Point only the one time its messages have echoed with me to this day. Even now I cant listen to "Me and my Arrow" without beaming, or "Lifeline" (when Arrow dissappears into the hole) without a tug at the ol' heart.
Truly a gentle and unsung masterpiece!
Free Music Review: Charmed, I'm Sure! Hit: 5 Stars
I've been looking for this item for some time and have had little luck finding it. I own the original record album (back in the dark ages) and really love it, but I really wanted it on dvd so I could download it to an ipod and listen to it when I do yardwork. I found this sheerly by accident and am absolutely thrilled with it. It's a story (interspersed with song)about a boy who does not find into his society and is banished. He has adventures and later returns home pointing out that he is really no different from anyone else. It would be great for a class on self-esteem, or how everyone, no matter what, has some value. Not only would it be a great educational tool, it's charming, fascinating and a lot of fun.
