Free Music Notes for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack]Free Music Review: It is time to grow up Harry Hit: 5 Stars
It seems strange that some fans are so narrow minded that they cannot be open to a new composer. The soundtrack itself is marture and does not depend on a strong thematic through-line unlike the previous three films, which was for me always something necessary for the young audience. It should also be noted that themes had always been the strength from Williams, whose music bears similiarities to Wagner. Doyle instead chose to capture the mood of scenes and he does a splendid job.The overall tone of the soundtrack is dark, ominous and brooding. The book is dark, and so is the score. Doyle's music completely reflects the source material (unfortunately I have read in quite a few early reviews that it does not reflect the movie because Mike Newell butchered it, which is a shame). The score is original and new and should be given a chance by everyone. I really hope that Mr. Doyle will score the next movies because things will only get darker with each passing book and the jolly score from Williams is rather out of place now. My only wish for the future would be a tiny bit of thematic development and no songs at the end. They distroy the mood completely and should be skipped.
Free Music Review: An Excellent Job Hit: 5 Stars
I think Patrick Doyle (the composer) did an excellent job scoring the movie. He was able to compose completely new pieces that fit well with the movie. While some of it may not be as good as John Williams', many of the pieces are great. "Neville's Waltz" is really nice to listen to: It's very soothing. The same goes for "Harry Potter's Love" and "Hogwarts' March." My rating of the best 5 pieces are as follows:
1. Neville's Waltz 10/10 (It's so soothing!)
2. Harry Potter's Love 9.5/10 (It makes you want to cry)
3. Quidditch World Cup 9/10 (Very action-y. Really cool)
4. Hogwarts' March 9/10 (A nice happy theme)
5. Potter Waltz 9/10 (Hard to descibe. Nice music)
Also, knowing it was performed by the LSO (London Symphony Orchestra) was a GREAT relief. They're the same one that did John Williams' compositions. I didn't like the rock songs at the end. Dumb lyrics, but it was OK for the movie.
Overall, this soundtack is worth getting. Get this for yourself or as a gift for a relative or friend. You'll like it. And while you're at it, watch the movie too.
Free Music Review: For die hard John Williams fans, don't discount this soundtrack! Hit: 5 Stars
When I bought this soundtrack, I hadn't seen the movie, nor had I noticed that it wasn't John Williams. So, when I put it in my CD player, I was angry that it wasn't the same music. I decided to put it aside and watch the movie to see if it made the music any better and it does! Patrick Doyle puts together some wonderful pieces that really should be listened to with an open mind because they're really quite good. Don't discount this soundtrack because John Williams didn't do it. See the movie first, too. There's a few streams from John Williams music, but 98% of it is new. It's still very good however if looked at with an open mind because John Williams isn't the only good composer out there. True, it might have been nice to stick with the same composer, but the director chose Patrick Doyle because he'd worked with him in the past and liked him. Doyle has some other very good soundtracks as well. Just give it a chance. If you listen to it and are planning on hating it, you will, but if you listen with an open mind there's good chance you'll like it (especially if you liked the movie).
Free Music Review: Second best HP soundtrack EVER!! Hit: 5 Stars
...Only second to Prisoner of Azkaban's soundtrack. However, with a new composer, there is a new feel to the music. And this has got to be one of the best Harry Potter soundtracks ever. Some of my favorite tracks are The Story Continues, The Quidditch World Cup, Foreign Visitors Arrive, Golden Egg, Underwater Secrets, The Black Lake, The Maze, Voldemort, and Death of Cedric. I was a little iffy when I found out John Williams was leaving, but apparantly, Patrick Doyle didn't want to disappoint, because when I listen to this, I sometimes forget that John Williams didn't compose these songs. Doyle did VERY well in making the Goblet of Fire soundtrack fit in with the other three, but also making it his own. And the rock songs are a good added bonus. And, yes, they should be on the soundtrack, because they are supposed to be by the Weird Sisters, which are a real band in the Harry Potter books and really DO play at the Yule Ball in the book. While I'd prefer to have Williams back, I wouldn't mind it if Doyle had to do another soundtrack for Harry Potter.
Free Music Review: Beautiful Work Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the movie without ever listening to the soundtrack first, and all during it I thought to myself that John Williams just seems to improve with every movie. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that a new composer had been chosen, and that he was none other than Patrick Doyle, whose work for the movie "Sense and Sensibility" I have admired for a long time. I have to disagree with some of the other reviewers here, because I think his beautiful music matches the mood and tone of the new movie perfectly. We're not talking about a lighthearted look at the wizarding world anymore, where everything is fresh and new and fun. We're looking at a story that is becoming more adult, even as its characters and themes become more adult, and the music suits this perfectly. Like the "Sense and Sensibility" soundtrack, it is simultaneously sweeping and majestic as it is thoughtful and moving.
John Williams is most definitely a classic and in a category all his own, but maybe Patrick Doyle's time has come. Definitely give this soundtrack a chance!
