Free Music Notes for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack]Free Music Review: Great even as a standalone Hit: 5 Stars
While John Williams' sountrack complements the movie perfectly, most of the tracks would fit in at a Boston Symphony concert. "Aunt Marge's Waltz" is probably the best example of this; the oboe solos, etc, make this track sound like a modern version of a Mozart waltz. "Buckbeak's Flight" is easily the best track on the album; it conjures up the scene from the movie perfectly. I can't help but smile when I hear it. What I don't understand is why people have such an affinity to lyrics. "Double Trouble" is the most downloaded track on iTunes, "Into the West" (awful song) was the most popular for LOTR, and same with every other soundtrack. While I have nothing against "Double Trouble" (it is is a great adaptation of those few lines from Macbeth), it somehow doesn't fit with the rest of the album. It works great in the film, but it doesn't fit with the other tracks. Same with "Knight Bus." Sorry this turned out to be a rant more than a review; just had to say that.
Free Music Review: Amazing addition to the Potter family Hit: 5 Stars
This is probably the best of the 3 soundtracks to the Harry Potter films. Being a fan of the books, the movie throughly disappointed me... but the music never ceases to amaze. I love every track especially #5 (Double Trouble) and #6 (Buckbeak's Flight). Track #5 uses a great verse from Shakespeare's "Macbeth" and gives the film an air of mystery and dark magic... and this installment is one of the darkest in the series (well book 5 is darker, but we're not talking about book 5). Track #6 just lifts my heart and gives me chills and goose bumps.... the same feeling hit me both times I saw the movie. The piece just captures the raw emotion, joy, and freedom of Harry at that moment.I enjoy the use of what seems to be tin flutes and the almost medieval quality of some of the pieces. It's just a wonderful score, probably one of William's best works. I definately recommend anyone to purchase this... even if you don't like Harry Potter, you will love the enchanting themes found in this score.
Free Music Review: Absolutely Spectacular! Hit: 5 Stars
This has got to be the best Harry Potter soundtrack ever! As a few other reviewers have said, Prisoner of Azkaban is one of the darkest of the books in the Harry Potter series and a lot of the songs really convey that well. My favorite track is #6 Buckbeak's Flight. To me, it has this powerful sound to it and listening to it makes me feel peaceful. This song is played in the movie when Harry is flying on the Hippogriff Buckbeak for the first time. The entire scene is powerful (and made more so by the song) and I think it was a way for Harry to escape his troubles, if only for a few moments. In PoA, that is definitely something Harry needs. I would usually give each track a rating and an explanation of why I gave it that certain rating, but it is currently three in the morning and I'm sleepy! Lol. Otherwise, I give each track the same rating, a 10/10, with the exception of track 6, which deserves an even higher rating! I can 99.9% guarantee that you will not regret purchasing this soundtrack!
Free Music Review: Beautiful Music Hit: 5 Stars
The third installement of Harry Potter: Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban got a new spirit music, in one word is just beautiful. A little different from its predecessor: Sorcerer's Stone or Chamber of Secrets. Prisoner's music is more dark, it evokes very much than Sorcerer's stones and its more depth than Chamber of secrets. For the first time, in spite the faboulos Hedwig's theme, Harry Potter it's there, he's not just a wizard kid: he's an orphan, he's a boy with joy and pain and the music reflect that. John Williams did and amazing reivention of the spirit of Harry Potter music and added new themes. Tracks like "Buckbeak's flight", "a window to the past" and "finale" are just beautiful. on the other hand we got the jazz style of "the Knight bus" or mediaval style in "double trouble" or "Hagrid the professor" and even a Waltz in "aunt Marge's waltz". Beautiful score.
Free Music Review: New Themes Hit: 5 Stars
Never have I heard John Williams use so many different types of music to score one movie! Parts of this album will remind you why you fell in love with the Harry Potter scores in the first place, but you'll also hear music that reminds you of the "Star Wars" Cantina, and the jazzy sounds of "Catch Me if You Can." "Aunt Marge's Waltz" reminds you of classical music written over a hundred years ago. The dominating sound of this album, however, can only be described as "Medieval." No songs portray the feel of an old Scottish castle better than "Double Trouble" (with lyrics from "MacBeth") or "Hagrid the Professor." Much like he did with "Indaiana Jones and the Last Crusade," John Williams reuses his old themes just enough the remind you that it's still the same series. Easily, 90% of this score is music that you have not heard from the first two films, and in my opinion it is the best "Harry Potter" score yet.
