Free Music Notes for Heart - Greatest Hits: 1985-1995Free Music Review: Essential Heart Hit: 5 Stars
After being recognized as a distaff Led Zeppelin for much of the seventies, Heart re-emerged(after several early eighties failures)like a phoenix in 1985 with their most successful studio effort ever. In the midst of "hair metal" ruling the charts, Heart was a slight alternative to the male headbangers that abounded. With the re-emergence came a new sound, jettisoning the hard rocking guitar anthems like 'Barracuda' in favor of a more mellow, lushly produced sound. Though this basically resulted in corporate rock, it was rarely pulled off with this much passion or conviction. If nothing else, this superbly rounded collection offers proof of the power of Ann Wilson's voice, which remains one of the greatest vocal instruments to ever grace recorded music. While the usual hits are here, some of their later, less successful chart entries are also represented, chief among these the guitar-driven power of 'Black On Black II', as well as the Mutt Lange power ballad 'Will You Be There', both fine songs that were released during a time when grunge ruled. This, along with Sony's Greatest Hits package covering their seventies work, is essential listening for fans of this great band.
Free Music Review: CLASSIC SONGS Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a huge Heart's fan and this cd represents to me a lot;it collects a decade of songs from '85 to '95 and includes the unforgettable tunes released from the albums "Heart", "Bad Animals" and "Brigade" that were a smash in the Billboard 200.From "Heart" we have the beautiful and touching "These Dreams",the hard rock"If looks could kill", the mainstream "What about love" and two others single "Never" and "Nothin' at all";the last one sang by Nancy Wilson. From "Bad Animals" there's the famous and stunning "Alone",the rock "Who will you run to" and the super pop "There's the girl";From "Brigade"the classic "All i wanna do is make love to you", the moved love song "Stranded" and two others single "Tall, dark handsome stranger" and "I didn't want to need you".Among the others ones there's the romantic "Surrender to me"featuring Robin Zander from Cheap Trick and the astonishing "Will you be there".Ann Wilson is personally one of the best singer ever:Her voice is so powerful but sexy and tender at the same time, while her sister Nancy is one of the most gifted guitarist on the pop-rock scene. If you want to dive yourself in the best rock pop songs, don't think twice;listen to them.
Free Music Review: How come they're never on VH1? Hit: 5 Stars
I first heard of Ann and Nancy Wilson and their band, Heart, when my dad played their cd for me in the car one day. What great music talent!! I can't believe that I had never heard of them before...how come I never hear anything about them on VH1? Seriously...every song on this album is, in my opinion, a great pop/rock song and the Wilson sisters definitely have the musical talent to make this such a memorable album. Ann Wilson has one of the best rock voices I have ever heard. It is so powerful and is of such incredible range. When you listen to such songs as "Black on Black" (love that one!) and "Who will you run to?", you realize that this lady knows how to hit a high note rock-n-roll style. You go girl! In addition, Nancy has great talent on the guitar and I was also extremely impressed to find out she could sing lead vocal, too (and do a great job!). I love the music coming from these two sisters and I only wish that I could still see them perform this material live. They're awesome and I demand to know why they're not on VH1's 100 greatest women of rock-n-roll countdown. I highly recommend this cd!
Free Music Review: Far superior than the previous Capitol greatest hits Hit: 5 Stars
These Dreams, Heart's previous Capitol Records'greatest hits was problematic. Their catalog is divided over two labels. Capitol had the rights to Dreamboat Annie, Magazine, and everything from the 1985 self-titled album on up. Sony owns everything else. So in trying to give a complete 22 year overview they had to plug the holes: alternate versions of Barracuda, Dog & Butterfly, and Straight On and no Even It Up, or Tell It Like It is.These Dreams also missed the later hit single There's The Girl from Bad Animals. Sony resolved the early years up to 1983 with their greatest hits in 1998. Which brings us to this....Covering the ten years when they joined Capitol Records in 1985 up to 1995's The Road Home, this collection delivers all the 13 charting singles (including There's The Girl), a rare promo single You're The Voice (studio) (the live verion was on Rock The House) and the Tequila Sunrise soundtrack song Surrender To Me, which is Ann Wilson's solo hit with Robin Zander. The Cd boasts 24-bit sound, and nice liner notes, though it's devoid of pictures. Still much improved over the last Capitol Collection.
Free Music Review: An album that is worth every cent Hit: 5 Stars
Without a doubt, Heart is my favorite female group of all time and this album has all of my favorite Heart songs. Ironically, just 3 or 4 months before this cd came out, I put in an order at a music store for an import cd called These Dreams - Heart's Greatest Hits that never came in. Just a couple of months after I cancelled my order from the music store, I looked at Amazon.com and found out that this album was coming out in late June. I bought this cd as soon as it came out and it's worth every penny. It has all my favorites such as "These Dreams" and "Alone." Even the songs that I wasn't familiar with such as "Back To Avalon" and "I Didn't Want To Need You" are great. If you're a fan of Heart's music after they made their major comeback in the mid 80's, this album is for you. Even if you don't know any of Heart's songs, I still recommend getting it to add to your collection. Ann & Nancy Wilson have two of the best singing voices ever combined with some good musicians that make this album one of the best 'greatest hits' albums of all time.
