Free Music Notes for Jupiters DarlingFree Music Review: Pretty Impressive Hit: 3 StarsOpening with a rousing acoustic guitar, you are ready to hear the old world winds of "Magic Man" as Ann kicks in to sing, alas it's not "Magic Man" but for the sisters who have been making power packed rock since 1976, this is still a really welcome comeback.
At 16 songs, the power and passion that is the Wilson sisters can end up being a little intimidating but for anyone who ever sang along with the likes of "Barracuda" or even "Dreamboat Annie", Jupiter's Darling is a great place to go. Ann proves she hasn't lost a bit of her vocal chops as she punches through "Make You" and then takes it down four notches for "The Perfect Goodbye", and ever since she proved what she can do on a lead with 1985's "These Dreams" Nancy (Mrs. Cameron Crowe if you're nasty) gets a few songs of her own, most notably on the acoustic "Things".
Free Music Review: Broken Hearted Hit: 1 StarsI'm broken hearted one of my (former) favorite bands has a CD out I won't be buying. I listed to it and heard nothing I'd want to hear ever again..
The radio stations don't even play anything off of it. I only recall hearing one song from Desire Walks On (Will You Be There) played on the radio...............sad very sad.
Free Music Review: Jupiter's Darling Sonic Integrity Hit: 2 StarsForget about musical content. This review is strictly based on production values. If you are interested in the former, stop reading.
From a sonic standpoint, this disc is an excellent representation of compression and limiting utilized as a weapon of mass destruction. Would welcome the opportunity to hear it remixed without an overused digital limiter crushing it's emotive destiny.
Not the fault of the engineer or producer.

Free Music Review: Best Work since 70s Hit: 4 StarsJupiter's Darling is Heart's best complete cd since the 70s. No disrespect to Mr. John "Mutt" Lange is intended here. Those 80s anthems had their time and will always have a space in our hearts. Jupiter's Darling, however, recaptures that raw simplicity that made Heart Great in the first place and pairs it with a more grown-up approach to production.
This more polished (but not slick or overproduced) sound appears to be the result of Nancy Wilson's studio collaboration with Craig Bartock. The duo's delight in making music together is obvious on all their tracks sometimes it shows up as a little piano string picking or in Nancy's heart-felt lead vocals laid down on tunes like "I Need the Rain" and "Led to One."
Ann Wilson, of course, displayed her usual balls to the wall lead vocal on most of her tracks but it was really nice to hear her perform a more mature, controlled style on "Enough," a song about a woman expressing her frustration over inability to connect with a new love. This track proves Wilson's ability to restrain her powerful lungs while still allowing an enormous amount of emotion to come pulsing through.
Not every song is a hit in my book. Efforts like "Vainglorious", "Move On" and "Oldest Story in The World" seem a bit pass?. They aren't bad but they don't seem evolved enough to have come from artists who are now in their 50s. The music is fine if typical but the lyrics are a mere afterthought. References like "chad confetti" were a little behind the times even when the album was released in 2004. Lines like "get you back to school" sound a little silly coming from elder rock states-persons like the Wilson sisters.
Jupiter's Darling is a good listen with some real highlights. The cd sort of undulates nicely from start-to-finish, making it an excellent choice for a road trip.
Free Music Review: An inspired recording! Hit: 5 StarsIf you like Heart, then buy this release. This recording reminds me of Hearts early releases like Dreamboat Annie and Magazine. It's all new material and sounds great. Anne's voice is perfect!
