Free Music Notes for Queer As FolkFree Music Review: QUEER is here to stay!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I thought this soundtrack was going to be just "OK" - but QAF sounds better than I thought it would! It didn't let me down. You'll recognize most of the songs if you watch QUEER AS FOLK on Showtime - and be proud you finally have them on a CD. They even have the "spunky" opening tune by 'Greek Buck' that opens each episode. My faves are on here too - I especially like "Proud" by Heather Small - sounds like a gay anthem ("What have ya done today to make ya feel proud...") featured on the first episode; "You Think You're A Man" with that brief infectious nasty laugh in it; "Dive In The Pool" which was used to close the first half dozen episodes; "Shake Me" sounds like a funky disco tune that reminds me of the 60's; and "Let's Hear It For The Boy" (a Justin theme song?). If you like QUEER AS FOLK, this CD will get you soakin' wet this coming summer. With QAF renewed for a second season, no doubt there will be more QAF soundtracks in the future. CD includes a few cast pictures from the TV show (including a big smirk from Brian - figures!) and liner notes from the executive producers. I like to see the QAF CD on the top 10 list nationally - it's time we had a "queer" soundtrack on the charts, don't you think? Straight To...Number One?
Free Music Review: Great Soundtrack From a Great TV Show Hit: 5 Stars
The "Queer As Folk" Soundtrack is the essential for sitcom fans or dance music fans. Every track greatly reflects on the show's theme in each individual episode. They combine wonderfully in this album. The quality in the dance tracks has enough edge to keep a dance floor hopping for a long time. The variety of dance themes keep listeners interested in every note: dance pop, techno, turntable, electronica, remix, etc. They take listeners inside the episode that it originally played, especially the Babylon club scenes, whether its theme was happy, emotional, angry, or fun. They prove that even small-name artists make quality music like big-name artists do. It begins and ends with the theme song "Spunk". Between them is an unforgettable listening experience. The fun never stops, even with the sole ballad "Proud" by Heather Smalls. The remakes live up to the originals, namely "You Think You're a Man" (Divine, 1984) and the popularly played "Let's Hear It For the Boy" (Deniese Williams, 1984). The "Queer As Folk" Soundtrack is great for those looking for quality dance music. This is sure to please many show fans.
Free Music Review: WOW! WHAT AN ENERGY PACKED CD!!!! This one's for EVERYONE! Hit: 5 Stars
What can I say! This CD is non stop fun! Upbeat high energy dance music! This Sountrack really goes hand in hand with the series! GreekBuck's Spunk really gets things going and when you think it's time to cool down, Barry Harris/Pepper Mashay hits you with Dive in the pool. "Let's get soaking wet!!", Pepper Mashay demands. I must commend Showtime on taking on such a controversial series. It is about time! They do it so tastefully and the soundtrack follows along! It is great to hear a "fresh" group of songs on a gay related sountrack. If I heard Gloria Gaynor on one more cd...UGH! Don't take me wrong, Gaynor isn't bad, but she is on every gay related cd! ENOUGH! I know I will be hearing many of the hits on this cd in the nightclubs! If you love to dance or just want to listen to an upbeat cd, Queer as Folk is for you...no matter what your sexual preference is!!!!
Free Music Review: beautiful moments Hit: 5 Stars
So considering I typically can not stand soundtracks whether from a movie or televsion show & Im not a big fan of house/techno/dance music, I figured since I love the show so dearly Id give the soundtrack a whirl.
If you watch the show you understand that music is a major factor; its helps to embellish on the scene and feelings of the character. Well the cd takes you back to those beautiful and memorable moments. Not just the club songs but the overall passion from "Straight To.. Number One" or "High School Confidential".
I say watch the show and follow up by listening to the cd on a loop, then on random order. Keep in your car and take in the house when you get home.
point blank, this soundtrack is fabulous!
Free Music Review: A great soundtrack to an awesome show! Hit: 5 Stars
Although I'm REALLY hoping they decide to make a second cd (there is a LOT of great music on that show!), I absolutely love this one. I rarely ever take it out of my discman. Each track embodies a certain scene that we all love or just brings back the wonderful feeling you get after watching an episode. "Proud" by Heather Small is an anthem in itself but other tracks such as Touch and Go's "Straight To...Number One" are sure to bring back a nice little scene or two (especially if you just love Brian and Justin...or maybe Michael and David) ;). Mix that with great dance tracks that would do the boys of Babylon proud and you have a MUST-have soundtrack.
