Free Music Review: At long last!

Like probably millions of others, I was completely captivated by the music of "The Thorn Birds" from the first few minutes of its 1983 premiere. I had to have this soundtrack! Little did I know that I would have to wait almost 25 years to get it. At the time - and this was way before the Internet - I called all over the country trying to find out why this most incredible soundtrack was not being released. I finally reached one of Mr. Mancini's publicists, who gave me a vague explanation about the work being tied up in legal wrangling amongst multiple parties. Reluctantly, I gave up. It was just by happenstance that I recently learned it was released in 2004, and of course I ordered it on the spot! It is marvelous to experience this music once more, and with 2 CDs, all the themes are here - Main Title/Drogheda, the haunting Meggie's Theme, what I call "Paddy's Theme" which first appears on Track 7 (break out the tissues) and repeats at some of the tenderest moments, and even the delightful sheep-shearing theme on track 19. The more you listen, the more you appreciate the thread of cohesiveness that runs through the entire work, and the genius of Henry Mancini. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that I, too, found the first track & a few others to be mysteriously "flat", as though something was missing or it was poorly mastered. On first listen, I was severely disappointed, but fortunately those questions have been answered by other reviewers on this site, for which I am most grateful! I have ordered "Case History of a Film Score" with the accompanying CD, and am really looking forward to hearing the main "Thorn Birds" theme with the dulcimer intact, as Mr. Mancini intended & all of us fans remember. Incidentally, I found the producers' notes included with this CD to be fascinating and almost as much fun as the music. Buy this CD and beam yourself back to life on Drogheda and the powerful love between gorgeous Rachel Ward and her handsome Father Ralph.Free Music Review: Thorn Birds Beautiful Soundtrack

Really limited to variations on a few tunes, but it is beautiful music, & brings back beautiful memories of the mini series. It's great music for a quiet dinner, or to de-stress & relax to. Beautiful Mancini music.Free Music Review: still incomplete

okay, hear goes...being the first one to bring to the consumers attention of this recording being incomplete. its still INCOMPLETE !!!! with that.. i'll tell you.. the rest of the recording is fine!! but the fact of the matter remains with reviewer's from ma, to nj, making explainations or excuses for an unfinished product its still INCOMPLETE. being one who so looked forward to this cd i about did cartwheels when i found this at the the store ...could hardly wait to get home and listen to the MAIN TITLE!! after all this was the main feature of the cd , the big cheese, the head honcho of the whole bunch,but was dissapointed to find THE DULCIMER track was indeed missing !!!so for you folks out there with no musical inclinations, hear are the fact's in musical terms. the MAIN TRACK ( meggies theme )starts with 4 measures of music with smaller amounts of music like autoharp included, then there are 4 measures of music with the DULCIMER TRACK that SHOULD be there ,followed by 2 measures again without the dulcimer and again it repeats this with 4 more measures of music with the DULCIMER TRACK followed by 2 measures of less forceful music before it then crecendo's to the full orchastra of the 2nd half of MEGGIES THEME in the main title. so any amount of reasoning by folks who do not know what they are talking about , SIT DOWN, LISTEN , KEEP QUIET AND PAY ATTENTION!!!! besides how dare they mess up meggies theme!!!! and now you know ...the rest of.. the story!Free Music Review: warning to amazon buyers & amazon .com itself !!!!!

UNBELIEVABLY THIS IS A INCOMPLETE RECORDING, after waiting 20 years for this wonderful soundtracktrack. track # 1 has NO LEAD DULCIMER MELODY LINE !!!!!! which is why i bought this recording to begin with , as any true fan of the thorn birds knows we rememmber this beautiful dulcimer on the main title and ITS NOT THERE , it sounds like a demo recording. that would be like buying doctor zhivago without the balalika in lara's theme.(which by the way rhino records did a wonderful job in their reissue cd ) imagine in this day and time a massive boo-boo like this??? i am a professional musician and always make sure recordings are complete before it goes out the door. and to the reviewer from az. you might want to listen to track one again!!!! and to AMAZON .COM itself check your supplies of this cd and listen to track one # 1 main tile.incredibly dissapoiting as ive taken back three copies already.. hoping there might be a peplicating error. no such luck , the question is what is going to be done about this. thanksFree Music Review: THE DULCIMER IS STILL NOT THERE!!!

The unhappy reviewer who returned 3 copies is absolutely correct. This is an incomplete recording. The dulcimer is missing from the Main Title, & according to Varese Sarabande, it's going to continue missing since Varese has NO plans to fix their own major blunder!! Varese blew it & now won't correct the problem. Too bad. They used to be a worthwhile label.
