Free Music Notes for Heroin Diaries SoundtrackFree Music Review: Love It... Hit: 5 Stars
Never having been a fan of Motley Crew (I think I may be a little young) I first heard Life is Beautiful on the radio and fell in love with the song. That led me on a search for more information on the band members and the stories behind the album. I'm always hesitant to buy an album based on one song, but I took the plunge and I don't regret it.
Realize that Life is Beautiful is very different from most of what you'll hear on the album. What you will hear is a brutally honest account of the life of a heroin addict. There's a lot of spoken word, pulled directly from the pages of Nikki Sixx's journals, but along with that are lyrics that will pull at your heart-strings and put you in the world of the addict - which is scary, depressing, and self-loathing.
The instrumentation is brilliant, almost symphonic, combining styles from all over the rock universe. Every song is unique, with a unique message and play style. James Michael's voice makes you wonder why he's a producer and not a front-man for some huge band. I haven't read the book yet, but I think the whole album is perfectly understandable without it.
If you're buying this album for 13 different versions of Life is Beautiful, then just buy the single and be done with it. If you're interested in a journey through a single man's struggle with addiction, then buy this album!
Free Music Review: The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack - Sixx A.M. Hit: 5 Stars
This is a music album released adjunct to The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx. While familiarity with the book is helpful it is not necessary- this record stands by itself as a great rock album from beginning to end. The subject matter, as you might guess from the title, can be very heavy at times- this is not pop metal and it's not for kids. The lyrics and narration by Nikki Sixx are brutally honest, giving the album a sense of integrity and reality, while the music is very tight and well done- no phoning it in here. I highly recommend this record.
I also highly recommend the book but fair warning- this is a book written first hand (with interjected oral history updates added for perspective) by the leader of the most successful and undoubtedly the most decadent rock band of the late 80's early 90's. If you are easily offended or faint of heart do not read it. If you have an interest in Nikki, Motley Crue, or rock music in general it is a must-read page-turner. The book is essentially a diary written during 1987 when Motley Crue was at the peak of their career and Sixx was at the worst of his addiction to various drugs, most specifically heroin. It is a fascinating and sometimes scary story but also open and honest with a warts-and-all approach. It is also redeeming- Nikki Sixx has been clean and sober for years now and actively advocates against drugs. [...]
Free Music Review: SIXX:A.M.- Music as it was intended to be! Hit: 5 Stars
The Herion Diaries:
When it comes to music, I am a fan of all types. When I first got this CD, I didn't know what to expect. However, as Xmas in Hell started, I knew I was in for a treat. These guys are geniuses. This is by far the BEST CD THAT I HAVE BOUGHT IN YEARS!!!!
Van Nuys is an unbeliveable track full of truth. In fact, this whole CD is full of truth. In an unbeliveable way, this CD is very inspirational!
Life is Beautiful is such an unreal song. The music and lyrics are amazing.
Girl with Golden eyes- I love how this as well as most of the music on this CD flows! Beautifully written and composed. Nikki coming in and reading from the diary is such a great touch that just made an awesome CD even better.
Courtesy Call- what can I say, a work of art.
If you are a fan of rock music, whether you love Motley Crue or have never heard of them, you will love this CD, I guarentee it. I never thought I was going to get exactly what I hoped for, but never believed it could happen. Music that really means something and you never get tired of listen to it over and over.
YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG WITH BUYING THIS CD.
I can't wait to get to see them live at Crue Fest!
Take care,
JB
Free Music Review: Jedd Beaudoin Clearly Doesn't 'Get It' Hit: 5 Stars
He's trying to say this isn't a Motley album, hence his disappointment...
Well, DUH!
This wasn't meant to be a Motley album. This is a very personal, and poignant, project from someone who's been to hell and back. That emotion shines through brilliantly with this album.
I've listened to Crue and the like since my heyday back then. A lot of us who were 'troubled teens' relate to this album, with the knowledge that a little more money, a little more success, a little more excess, and there but for the Grace of God go we.
Is this self-indulgent? YES!! Is it self-aggrandizing? YES!! And that's how it's supposed to be.
The message from this is that not many people can come back from the brink, but it's POSSIBLE.
As for the modern sound, well, it is 2007, not 1986. The vocals are incredible, the music is pounding and emotive, quiet and reflective, all at the same time. And it's that way through the whole album, no throwaways here.
In my honest opinion, this is the BEST rock album, and the most important, to come out since OPERATION MINDCRIME back in the day.
It's got that 'feel' to it.
If you 'get it', get it. You won't be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Incredible! Unique! Total Nikki!! Hit: 5 Stars
I can't stop listening to this CD. Nikki has done it again - amazing music, amazing lyrics, amazing group. The lyrics are dark and painful, they compliment the book very well, but there is hope in them as well. While I've never had a drug addiction, that doesn't mean there wasn't some way for me to connect to this music. Everybody has something that haunts them, everybody has something they're running from at some point, and I am certainly one of those people. "Everybody gets high, low, bruised, sold," right? I've definitely been down that self-destruction path on purpose and I can relate to a lot of these lyrics. The darkness in peoples lives isn't just through drugs. Nikki may not have been aiming for that when he wrote his book and this soundtrack, but he has reached a lot of people emotionally with both, which means none of us are alone in things like this. (i realize this is "deeper" than a review should prob go, but how else do we thank Nikki? :) I've been a Crue fan for as long as I can remember, Nikki's talent is still there and growing and I hope we get more from Sixx A.m. (more from Nikki, anyway)(actually, I'd like more MC - hint, hint :)
