Free Music Notes for Heroin Diaries SoundtrackFree Music Review: Pure genius... enjoyable and inspirational Hit: 5 Stars
I heard the song "Life is Beautiful" on the radio and I was so touched by it that I cried. When I found out it was the soundtrack to Nikki Sixx's "Heroin Diaries" book, I was intrigued. How original is it to create a CD based on a book! I previewed the tracks on Amazon and found that all of the songs seemed just as good from the little I heard of them.
When I got the CD, I wasn't disappointed. The songs are just pure genius! The singer's voice is wonderful, the lyrics real and heartfelt, and the melodies and guitar-work are reminiscent of old-style metal but freshened up for the 21st century. I think this is the best CD to come out in a long time and it has made me excited about metal again and in music in general.
It's a little sad to think, though, that even with Nikki's success with Motley Crue, he still went through a harrowing experience with addiction. I guess no matter how successful people are, they still have their problems. I hope he's found some catharsis and redemption from creating this masterpiece. I thank him for this gift of music that I find both enjoyable and inspirational.
Free Music Review: Deserves a Grammy! Hit: 5 Stars
It looks like Jedd there completely missed the mark on what this CD is about, I don't want to be insulting so I'll just say this. The reason it doesn't sound like a Motley Crue album is because it isn't! This is not a Nikki Sixx solo project but rather a group project that includes DJ Ashba and James Michael, (who by the way has an incredible voice!) All 3 contributed to the writing and composition of the incredible tracks that you just need to hear for yourself. The songs are wonderfully inspired by Nikki Sixx's book, The Heroin Diaries which is why they are "diaristic". I think it was an ingenious idea to link a soundtrack to a book, which I have never seen before. It has the feel of a rock opera and gives breath to the words you are reading in a whole new way! Hearing Nikki speak some of the very words he wrote in the book also brings alive all the emotions he experienced from depression and despair to joy at finding life. It truly deserves a Grammy! Sixx AM has created a new trend that I hope catches on, soundtracks to books. What a way to boost the reading experience!
Free Music Review: One word...Genius Hit: 5 Stars
Okay, I have been a hard core rock fan since my cousin introduced me to the likes of Zeppelin, Cooper, Sabbath, Montrose, etc. in the early 70's at the ripe old age of 10 or 11. Although there have been many strong artists and albums to come out in the years since, I have not heard a stronger album, yes I say album in this day and age of 1 or 2 notable songs worth hearing more than once, in a very very long time. I downloaded this album this morning, listened to it twice in my office and could not wait to go to lunch where I could listen to it on a real audio system to truly enjoy in its marvel. If you are a true rock fan you will not be dissapointed in this rich and emotional album that truly delivers on the premise of what we were taught an album should be. An experience for the mind, heart and soul not to be missed. In today's world of artists trying to reinvent themselves it is a blessing to have 3 musicians come together and pull off a masterpiece. Kudos to Nikki Sixx, James Michael and DJ Ashba for finally giving us something to celebrate. Pure and absolute genius!
Free Music Review: Insight to Addiction Hit: 5 Stars
Truely amazing!!! I've honestly been on the outside of my many friends' addictions and many a family addiction in my short life. To me, as like many of people I presume, drugs and alcohol seemed like GIANT party that I just wasn't invited to. So, for 23 years I stood on the outside and watched as one life turned into 10 turned into 15 that I watched grow potential and crash with a bottle or a needle or rolled up dollar bills. And all I did was wonder why I had wanted to be such a part it all.
Anyway, this book did for me what I had prodded my best friend and my sister and countless others couldn't do. It showed my why I had people around me begging for the next hit to kill them. For girls to get pregnant so they had a reason to live without it. It opened my eyes to what I had been saying "no" too for lack of a reason other than I just didn't want to.
Thank you Nikki and thank you to anyone who owns up to their demons and has the GUTS to face them down.
Free Music Review: Welcome Back, Glam Rock! Hit: 5 Stars
I've never been a Motley Crue fan. Saw them once a few years ago in Cedar Rapids and wasn't too impressed with the pudgy lead singer. But holy crap. This album is 10 times better than it has any right to be.
This isn't a Motley Crue record; fans of "Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Shout at the Devil" will probably sneer at Sixx:A.M.'s glam-rock blend of L.A. Guns and Dream Theater. I don't know what hole in the wall Sixx:A.M.'s lead singer James Michael crawled out of, but he really carries this album with his vocal range. The guitar, synth, and drumming aren't half-bad either. Am I forgetting the bass? Nikki Sixx isn't so bad on that either. Sixx really knocks a home run with the lyrics, however, adapted from his "Heroin Diaries" autobiography. They're pretty straightforward when compared to, say, Alice in Chains' "Dirt", but they work in this musical context.
Let your hair down and rock out. Better yet, perm it and tease your bangs and rock out.
