Free Music Review: Awesome CD Hit: 5 StarsLike the first movie, this CD is great for any HSM fan. My niece will love it. I love the music. It comes with the lyrics to the songs which is great.
Free Music Review: High School Musical 2 Hit: 3 StarsDecent, but not as entertaining or fresh as the first. Appealing to kids under 14.
Free Music Review: Great ! Hit: 5 StarsA wonderful cd for all the teenagers!
Maybe the songs are betters than the first movie !
Free Music Review: Almost Perfect - Would have liked more Ryan and Chad though! Hit: 4 StarsThe only real highlight on this album for me was the spellbinding duet between Chad and Ryan - "I Can't Dance" (wasn't this one song better than the entire "Footloose" movie?). I could watch it again and again and not tire of it. The greatest things about High School Musical 2 were Corbin Bleu (Chad) and Lucas Grabeel (Ryan). My favorite performer from the original film, Vanessa Hudgens, didn't have much to do here but her songs were great. That said, "I Can't Dance" is a song that anyone would love - its that addictive and innovative (I dare you to think of a similar track from any album in recent history).
This sequel has better music that the first, in my opinion. Even though it doesn't have a Broadway-style tear jerker like Gabriella's "When there was me and You" (what a song that was!), it does contain two versions of the movies' signature song "You are the Music in Me". The second version of this was done by Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay) - I think this version works better on screen, on CD it's a bit of a mess and Zach Efrons' purposely weak vocals only add to the clutter.
What also surprised me was that Zac Efron is such a lightweight singer. His vocals on movie no. 1 were done by Drew Seely, so it's a bit weird to hear Zac's actual voice. Its not a great voice, in fact its just about average, but in the face of real singers such as Vanessa Hudgens, his lack of vocal ability does show. They do give him a nice solo number here though, which was cool in its' own way. Sharpay's songs are always fun, and "Fabulous" was no exception. I am just bummed that Ryan never got a solo (Lucas is the most underrated star of this movie perhaps due to his understated sexuality (?) and is never really given a solo number EVER), and that the usually excellent Corbin Bleu wasn't given more of a central role. As a huge Bleu supporter, I was certainly expecting much more.
All in all, this was a much better CD than the first, simply because you'll remember the words to this one with less effort, and the songs are easy to sing along to. Even if you're 40 or 60, theres something here for you to love, and I really can't say that theres a CD out there in the market with that sort of universal appeal.
