Free Music Review: Charming and fun! Brilliant original musical!
Hit: 5 Stars

High School Musical was Disney Channels Original movie for the Month of January 2006. I believe it is one of the best Disney Channel Orignal movies (right up there with Cadet Kelly, Tru Confessions, and Cheetah Girls) and it surpassing everyones expectations. The soundtrack, though short, is definitely sweet. Zac Efron ( and his rumored voice double), Vanessa Ann Hudgens play the two main characters; a Basketball star who finds a passion in singing and a math whiz who brings out the best in Zac's Charecter Troy. The supporting cast is even more impressive especially Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel who play Sharpay and Ryan Evans, two twins with theater running through there veins and a snobby attitude to match. Ashley and Lucas give the film its sass and humor it needed. Without them the Movie would be simply dull and generic. The Soundtrack is a must for every Disney fan and musical fan.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL
1. Start Of Something New - A sweet song thats fun and charming. A cute ballad that is sung very well. (8/10)

2. Get'cha Head In The Game - The Hip Hop song, it goes from very poppish to suddenly a showtune ballad and then back again, but it works well. A decent song but not my favorite. (8/10)

3. What I've Been Looking For - My second favorite song. Its fun charming and overall brilliant. Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel are amazing. (10/10)

4. What I've Been Looking For (Reprise) - A much slower ballad version of the previous track and sung by Troy and Gabriella. Its sweet but I prefer Ryan and Sharpays upbeat version. (9/10)

5. Stick To The Staus Quo - The most "showtune-y" of all the songs it is funny and great. The dialougue is hilarious. (9/10)

6. When There was Me And You - A great ballad sung by Vannessa Ann Hudgens. It works better on the cd then in the movie due to cheesy visuals. But it is a great song and sung well. (9/10)

7. Bop To The Top - My favorite song, its fun, upbeat, and sung brilliantly. It is very cathy too! Amazing. My only problem is that its too short. (10/10)

8. Breaking Free - A great duet. Very poppish but sung well. (10/10)

9. We're All In This Together - The Big FInale thats catchy and cute. Very Grease. (9/10)

10. I Cant Take My Eyes Off Of You - Sung by Troy, Gabreilla, Ryan, and Sharpay. This song was not in the movie but its good enough to be. (8/10)

11. Getch'a Head In The Game - B5's version. (6/10)
12 and 13 are karaoke versions of "Breaking Free" and "Start Of Something New" so you can have fun with that/. I Would have preferred "Bop To The Top"

BUY THIS SOUNDTRACK. its hard to find but get it anyway!
everywhere I went was either sold out or simply couldnt find it.

Free Music Review: Immensely entertaining
Hit: 5 Stars

The film from which this soundtrack was taken should have been a major theatrical release. The music is that good, and the performances by the young but highly talented cast are uniformly superb, led by the amazing Ashley Tisdale. From Les Miserables to High School Musical by age 20, she is a Broadway prodigy in a class by herself.

As a composer/librettist of Broadway musicals myself ("Marva!", a musical play about famed inner-city educator Marva Collins), I can appreciate the extraordinary combination of effort it required to make High School Musical into the splendid production it is. All of the songs are first-rate, but "We're All In This Together," "Stick to the Status Quo," and "Get 'Cha Head In The Game" are particular standouts. You'll find yourself singing them endlessly.

There are good reasons why this is the first television soundtrack album to top the Albums Chart in twenty years. Those reasons are the songs. They are uniformly melodic, intelligent, and professional--rare qualities in today's music scene. I cannot recall any other album that actually made me wish that many of the tunes had been of longer duration! Several of the excellent numbers on High School Musical are only 2 minutes long or less, yet pack an enormous amount of heart and quality into every one of those few seconds. What a contrast to most recordings, where a bare minimum of musical and lyrical ideas are stretched, prolonged with preludes, repeated, and repeated again to make up for the almost total absence of substance!

The "Stick to the Status Quo" song warrants special mention because it brilliantly captures the reality of high school peer pressure within the context of an engaging large-cast production dance number. Who has experienced high school without feeling the stifling impetus to remain within rigidly defined boundaries of behavior, dress, and attitude? This song illustrates the foolishness of such self-imposed censorship without preaching, and is all the more a triumph because of that subtlety. If an athlete can bake, and a scholar can be into hip-hop, maybe there's hope for all of us.

The musical-within-a-musical approach works well, too, because it makes room for a wide range of song styles, including a parody of the old Donnie & Marie song and dance shtick and a hot salsa number, "Bop to the Top," which is catchier than virtually any hit single within recent memory. These infectious yet funny numbers are nicely interspersed with the songs that are part of the main story as sung extemporaneously by the characters. And the wonderful high-energy choreography by the great Kenny Ortega is breathtaking, particularly in group-dance songs such as "Get 'Cha Head in the Game" and "Stick to the Status Quo."

Bravo!

Free Music Review: Pop music confection.
Hit: 5 Stars

A soundtrack that topped the Billboard charts and the first TV movie ever featured on iTunes, "High School Musical" delivers general Disney-esque pop songs that are a throwback to 90's bubblegum pop, also spanning the taste of hip-hop, salsa, and Broadway. Like the movie, the songs are in order. "Start Of Something New" reveals the sweet voices of stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens. "Get'cha Head In The Game" are one of the highlights, with basketball sound effects and a taste of R&B. There are two versions of "What I've Been Looking For". Theater royalty Sharpay and her brother Ryan (Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel) put their own spin on a song written to be a heartfelt duet. It is very upbeat and theatric, and if you can't tolerate Tisdale's helium pop voice, then you'll enjoy the honesty and natural talent of Troy and Gabriella's beautiful harmonies (the reprise is much slower). "Stick To The Status Quo" delivers one of many of the movies teen messages, as the characters "confess" their secret dreams and passions. "Bop To The Top" is a crowd-pleasing number by Ryan and Sharpay that infuse a Latin-pop flare. "Bop To The Top" is their final callback audition, but they are clearly blown away with Troy and Gabriella's audition, "Breaking Free" (probably the most popular song). It is one of the more impressive numbers, as it shines with fearlessness. As I stated in my review of the DVD, my personal favorite is "We're All In This Together," a sensational song of teamwork, school spirit, friendship, and reaching for your dreams. It has a bumping marching band/cheerleading/hand clapping tempo topped with the ensemble coming together for a melodic and inspiring finale. What makes the music so successful is not one big hit song, but many that will have you singing and dancing and yes, it will stick in your head for days! As for the individual voices, the cast is very talented. Zac Efron has a sort of pop voice that you could imagine being accompanied by an acoustic guitar, Vanessa Hudgens has a radio-friendly pop voice, Ashley Tisdale has a nice voice that was probably exaggerated for the movie, and Lucas Grabeel's voice is also notable. I give immense credit to Andrew Seeley, who's incredible tenor voice could be heard substituting Zac Efron to pull off Troy Bolton's high notes (most especially on "Breaking Free" and at the end of "We're All In This Together" during the adlibs). So bottom line, I am giving the soundtrack 4 stars (I gave the DVD 5 stars). It has catchy and memorable tunes but just isn't as explosive without the amazing choreography featured in the film.

Free Music Review: High School Musical...
Hit: 5 Stars

Is an amazing CD. At least from a kid's/pre-teen's point of view anyway. It is really good for a Disney made CD. Plus, the movie gives a positive message to everyone. You can't go wrong with that.

Start of Something New: One of the best tracks on the CD. It's a great start to the album. The vocals are really nice; they blend quite well. 9/10

Get'cha Head in the Game: Although not one of my favs, it's still really catchy. If you watch the video or scene in the movie, you'll see it's pretty impressive how the cheorographed it. 8/10

What I've Been Looking For: I actually like this song. It's simple. It's sweet. It's a bit too short, but that's ok, I guess. 9/10

What I've Been Looking For (Reprise): This one is pretty...yeah. But I don't think there's anything too special about it. The one with Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Gabriel Lucas)is better in my opinion, though. Although, this one really shows that they have nice voices. Again, it's really short. Like a minute and a half or something. 7.5/10

Stick to the Status Quo: Not my favorite. At all. Love the Chorus though. But that's about it. The 'confessing' parts really isn't needed in the song. The movie, maybe, but not the song. 7/10

Bop to the Top: I love this SO much. I honestly don't know why. It's really catchy and has that Spanish feel to it. 9/10

Breaking Free: Oh My Goodness. Wow. WWhen you hear this song, you automatically think 'climax'. Ok, maybe that's just me, but it's still really impressive. It gives a powerful message to everyone who hears it. And plus, it's really good ear candy, too. : ) 10/10

We're ALl in this Together: This one gives a really positive message, too. And because the whole cast sings it, it's very strong. Luv it. 9/10

I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You: Wasn't featured in the movie, but it's still pretty good. It takes some getting used to, but after that, it's pretty good. It's a nice song. 9/10

Get'cha Head in the Game (B5): It's pretty good. At first, I thought it sounded better than the original, but I changed my mind. It kinda loses the basketball feel to it. 8/10

The last two are the karaoke vesions of 'Breaking Free' and 'Start of Something New'. They sound really beautiful. So grab a mike and sing along!

High School Musical, although not strong vocally, is still a must have album. I'm sure you'll be at least somewhat pleased with it.

Free Music Review: An Awesome Disney Effort
Hit: 5 Stars

Ok Disney has now started a instant hit. This movie has set off alot of stars in their singing and acting careers eg. Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel. It has also set off Kenny the director into launching The Cheetah Girls 2 another instant hit. Now this CD has sold LOTS AND LOTS of copies all over the world. If you need help deciding if you like it and the songs on it here are some song reviews to give you an idea [considering I own it]

The Start OF Something New: This song is very pretty and it sort of symolizes the star of the movie saying that they meeting each other is the start of something new which it is.

Get Cha Head In The Game: This song is very up beat and energetic. It is about foccasing on what he should be doing [as his teamates think anyway].

What I've Been Looking For: This is very catchy and fun to dance to. In fact it has simple lyrics and dance moves that will keep you dancing and singing to it for days on end

What I've been looking for reprise: This is alot slower that the first version. But all the same it is very pretty.

Stick To The Status Quo: This one is good to dance to and I like one part in it [Sharpay: this is not what I want this is not what I planned and I just gotta say I do not understand somthing is really... Ryan: somethings not right. Sharpay: really wrong... Both: and we gotta get things back where they belong..] and [Gabriella: why is everybody staring at you. Taylor: not me you. Gabriella: because of the callbacks I can't have people staring at me I really can't] but overall it really annoys me nto the best.

When There Was Me and You: this one is very pretty and emotional in fact I can't describe it it is so good

Bop To The Top: this song is fun and easy to dance to you can also learn the movie dance on the DVD.

Breaking Free: This song shows the chemistry between Gabby and Troy very well it is also very catchy and fun

We're all in this together: This is fun and energetic it will stay in your head for days on end and you won't be able to get it out.

I Can't take my eyes off you: This is cool and kinda weird cuz Ryan and Sharpay sing it too.

this is a great CD and I RECOMEND IT [excuse the caps]
