Free Music Notes for Deep Shadows & Brilliant HighlightsFree Music Review: Not their strongest, yet still a terrific album overall. Hit: 4 Stars
H.I.M. are quite a great band, with a unique sound and great music manship. It is unfortunate that a huge chunk of their fanbase just listens to it because their sell-out idol Bam Margera does, but that doesent mean you should overlook them. This is their second United States release ('Love Metal' also just came out this Tuesday and is amazing. I have had the import for quite some time now and it has been constantly in and out of my stereo). 'Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights' is not for you if you are just getting into H.I.M. I would start with their most popular, 'Razorblade Romance' (which is easily a five star album), and then thier most accessable, 'Love Metal. Most of the songs are great here, and Valo's voice will send shivers down your spine. His voice sounds even better here than it does on 'Love Metal' (though I heard he was sick when recording that album). So, what knocks this album down a bit? Well, it is admittedly a bit too dull at times for its own good, and its much slower and poppier than their other releases. Still, for any H.I.M. fan, this is a must own. H.I.M. has failed to dissappointment me yet. I cant wait for their next album (even if I have to import it to get it early).
Free Music Review: Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights Hit: 4 Stars
Great followup to Razorblade. One of my favorite HIM albums.
1. "Salt in Our Wounds" - Love it. Great song.
2. "Heartache Every Moment" - I am currently addicted to this, mostly because of the music heard during and after the second chorus, which I love vocally.
3. "Lose You Tonight" - It's growin on me musically so I am going to say it's a good song.
4. "In Joy and Sorrow" - One of my favorites. The last time the chorus is heard is the best part to me.
5. "Pretending" - Good song. I do like others over it. However, I still listen to it fairly regularly.
6. "Close to the Flame" - Another favorite of mine. TO me, it's a melody though some parts of the track can/are sound above the melody level.
7. "Please Don't Let It Go" - Musically great and catchy.
8. "Beautiful" - I do like others over it. But it's still la good song.
9. "Don't Close Your Heart" - Musically one of my favorites.
0. "Love You Like I Do/Outro" - Same as number 9.
Free Music Review: It's a great album, but not their best Hit: 4 Stars
This album is something. I hear it's a b-side album or just a collection of random tracks, and that makes it better. If these are b-sides, then that's amazing. This album has most good songs the only two I dont like are "Close To The Flame," and "Love You Like I Do." They are slower, and a bit different then a usual HIM song. My favorites are "Please Don't Let It Go," and "Salt In Our Wounds." This album is keeping the HIM discography flawless, as I see it because every HIM album has been good. All of them deserve 4 stars or more. They are an amazing band and if you were turned onto them by BAM more power to you because if not for BAM, some would not have found out about this band, but no I found HIM out myself cruising around iTunes and bought the greatest hits before they took it off iTunes.
I suggest you buy this album, I give it four stars because only my absolute favorite albums will get a five.
Free Music Review: Not as good as love metal, but right up there Hit: 4 Stars
This is probably HIM's lightest album (which is saying something, all things considered). All the signature traights of HIM are present here from the mellowing baritone vocals to the soulful electronica style guitar work and piano interludes. There is more acoustic work on this album than on their other efforts, which in some senses compromises the quality slightly, but on the other hand shows the skill with which the band handles this particular type of music. I say it hinders the qualtiy only because after about 4 acoustic-y songs in a row, they kind of start to sound the same. Once again, some of the songs have those signature catchy tunes such as the first few tracks (salt in our wounds, heartache every moment, and lose you tonight). Good musical quality, but the album as a whole could use a bit more variety.
Free Music Review: You know, this one isn't so bad. Hit: 4 Stars
It isn't nearly as cheezy as the Razorblade one or whatever. I can actually tolerate it very well. It's just really hard to get past the image that stores like hot topic place upon them...my philosophy has always been "Buy the album, not the hat" Once you listen to the music, THIS album is pretty good and at least tolerable. That Razorblade one, still sucks.
