Free Music Notes for Deep Shadows & Brilliant HighlightsFree Music Review: Good Stuff! Hit: 4 Stars
It's short but sweet. Highlights isn't my favorite of HIM's CDs but I feel it's definately worth owning. I see Highlights as one of HIM's more mature efforts, though theres nothing childish about them at all :) Beautiful is just that-a beautiful song. Salt in our Wounds is a great track as well, my favorite on the CD.
Free Music Review: It was not their best! Hit: 4 Stars
I was not one of their best, but I loved it anyways. To any HIM fan buy it and enjoy it. Its worth the buy!!!
Free Music Review: This again? Hit: 3 Stars
Okay, don't get me wrong, I'd give the songs on the album 5 stars, but I'm talking about the record company. First off, there is NOTHING new on this album. Like Universal did with Razorblade Romance, putting the digipack songs on them, they did not do it with Deep Shadows. It's just the old 10 track version, and there isn't even a video extra. I for one would have really liked to have seen at the very least, You Are The One, and In Love In Lonley from the digi on this release. Now, this is a very good album, but as I already have it, it will probably not be comming home with me.
Now for tracks:
Salt In Our Wounds: Weird intro, but it's not bad. Then the actual song is just awsome. Great lyrics on Valo's part, and a really cool guitar solo.
Heartache Every Moment: Cool keyboard intro. Again, awseome lyrics on Valo's part. Linde does a good (but short) solo. The only akward thing about it, is the second verse. It's only about two lines. It doesn't really hurt the song, but it's just a little odd.
Lose You Tonight: Probably the hardest song on the album. It stands out from the rest of the album, and I do believe Valo used some sort of effect on his vocals. Another very nice solo by Linde.
In Joy And Sorrow: Great lyrics. It has song interesting things insturmentally as well. Unlike most of the album, it's more acoustic. And it even involves some strings. The only thing I don't like about it is how it begins. Right from the start, the lyrics begin. It probably would have benefitted from a slight intro.
Pretending: It's a bit hard to describe this one. Wonderful lyrics, and very nice guitar work. But it won't appeal to everyone. I suggest you just listen to it.
Close To The Flame: Probably the softest song on the album. Very melencholic, nice makeout song if your into that. A bit boring guitar wise, but you probably won't think of that while listeing.
Please Don't Let It Go: Similar to Salt In Our Wounds. Very nice chord progression, but not much as far as a solo goes. Cool song, there is a VERY good live version of it on the Solitary Man singles.
Beautiful: One of, if not the best make out song I've ever heard. A real wooier of the ladies this track. The lyrics are a bit repeative, and there is barley any guitar, but nice synth line. There is another version of this song that was originally intended to be on the album, called Beautiful (Third Seal). It's only available on the In Joy And Sorrow single, which is in the Single Collection. Very different, a lot harder.
Don't Close Your Heart: Easily the poppiest track on the album. Somewhat of an annoying intro, but cool keyboard during the chorus. Cool track non the less.
Love You Like I Do: Not much going on as far as lyrics go, but REALLY good insturmental. An extremly melencholic song. One of my favorite songs on the album.
Now, as I mentioned before, the songs on the album get 5 stars. The only reason I gave it a three was becase of the record company. If you into softer HIM, I strongly reccomend this album.
Free Music Review: SKIP THIS AND BRING YOUR BUTT TO THE PAGE WITH RAZORBLADES AND LOVE METALS Hit: 3 Stars
i am coming up on my 1 year aniversary of becoming a HIM fan. They are great musicians and this review does not have the intention of sending you on another bands path.
With that said, this review is strictly to help all of u newcomers out there who have to deal with the decison of picking one of the 5 studio alubums(6 including Daniel Lioneye and the joint rollers) by HIM.
If you want to know the reason so many people love and respect their music get out of here and bring your butt to Razorblade Romance.
This album is definetly their worst. Thats all there is to it and theres nothing wrong with it. Razorblade Romance was a tough act to follow and for me, who would rather surf the net looking for Daniel lioneye interviews than to start a project thats half my grade, Deep Shadows and Brillant HIghlights, save two songs, was ultimetly a dissapointment. DOnt Worry! they redeem themselves with Love Metal.
Whats Wrong with it? Every song sounds the same, Danny plays accoustic on 8 out of the 10 songs, which my Metalheads can agree made them teary inside, and the ending song, LOVE U LIKE I DO, for me is so bad i skip over it with my CD player and pretend theres only 9 songs on this suggestivly pink and purple CD.
Anything worth it? Well it does complete one's HIM collection, and, ironically, one of the best songs Ville has ever written is number 2, HEARTACHE EVERY MOMENT which is the best performance video i have seen in years.
i dont wanna be too harsh, i just will have a guilty concince if some poor kid somwhere spends their allowance on the wrong CD.
Its worth it to collectors though.
Free Music Review: Not my favorite H I M album Hit: 3 Stars
Deep Shadows & Brilliant Hightlights definately is not my favorite HIM album. I like this album, but not as much as their other albums. I have 5 HIM albums, and this one I have listened to the least. It just doesn't sound the same as the other 4, but I mentality is that, if I need a change in music, I have this one to go to.
