Free Music Notes for Razorblade RomanceFree Music Review: This Album Gave Me A "Razorblade Kiss"... Hit: 5 Stars
This is one really phenomenal album. Especially the US version (this one), which contains a great remake of HIM's "Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666" beginner: "Your Sweet 666". Also, an updated version of their cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game". This CD hits all the spots with hard songs such as "Death Is Love Within Us" and "Poison Girl" and most of the other songs. It also shines in on HIM's softer side with the classic "Join Me In Death", and the great "Heaven Tonight". Even if you aren't a HIM fan, this will draw you in and get you to like them. All these songs were classic, where can I begin? *Note: I will add, but not deduct, points for a good/bad video.*
"Your Sweet 666": 7/10- This is a more updated version of their opening song of their career, first featured on "Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666". It includes are harsh, loud, and bass-ish opening. Great guitar and bass work, with an awesome solo. Points deducted for semi-poor lyrics.
"Poison Girl": 7/10- Great lyrics, awesome work on all of the band's parts, and tough sound, make this an (almost) must listen song. Points deducted for a one-time great song. Gets a bit old after a while. I would deduct points for a boring video if it was included.
"Join Me In Death": 10/10- Wow... That's all I can say at first. This, an instant classic; a living legend. This song is beautiful in all respects: romantic lyrics, while keeping a hard sound make this a sure-fire great. I would deduct points if the video was included, because it's a bit confusing. *A Must Listen Song*
"Right Here In My Arms": 9/10- Really tough and edgy song. The opening sets a blaze of sheer intensity and speed. Great song from Linde and nice work frome everyone else. It might trail off a bit at one point, but comes back with pure energy and adrenaline. I did add a point for an ok video, that does semi-trail off.
"Bury Me Deep Inside (Your Heart)": 8/10- Nice keyboard intro from ex-band member Zoltan/Juska. Ville does a great job with vocals, while everyone else keeps a nice, tough sound with a nicely set pace- should check this one out.
"Wicked Game": 11/10- Don't be fooled by a possible typo, I actually gave this an 11 out of 10; let me explain. It's actually a remake of a cover. Featured on their first album, they remade Chris Isaak's cover with a new style. The intro is just phenomenal, sets the pace for a raw, and altogether outrageously hard song. Everyone plays their hardest on this anti-love ballad. Outshines Isaak's original by a long shot (sorry Chris). Got the extra 11th point for a really good video. Look it up if you have time. *A Must Listen* Note: After hearing "Soul On Fire"- I retract my statement for "HIM's Hardest Song."
"I Love You (Prelude to Tragedy)": 7/10- Don't be fooled by the intro, and turn up your stereo, cause it'll blow your ears and your mind. Great work from everybody on this one. Especially Linde for really gripping guitar work. Starts off hard once the low-volumed intro monologue ends. Probably the loudest song on the album (or in their career so far). Great for blasting in your car, room, or wherever. Loses points for almost blowing my speakers when I first heard it.
"Gone With the Sin": 6/10- Sorry to say, this one's a bit slow. It's good for depression or sadness, but not one of their hard songs. One of those "Only For the True Fans"-type songs. Would lose points for a psychedelic-type video. Check it out and see what I mean.
"Razorblade Kiss": 9/10- The intro is a louder version of a chainsaw guitar- taking back fans to the older days of Johnny Ramone's (RIP) later day Mosrite. Anyways, this is probably the 3rd loudest of the band's album and probably career. A great solo from Linde, and the ultimate Dark Lovesong lyrics make this a tornado of energy and agression.
"Resurrection": 9/10- Valo does a great job with lyrics and his voice on this great Dark Lovesong. Gas really steps it up a knotch with his bass use and hard drumming. Good for thise time when you just want to hear something beautiful and rough.
"Death Is Love Within Us": 7/10- Yet again, a sheer, edgy song, Trails right off from where "Resurrection" left off. Really hard intro and tough follow through make this the band's (probably) second loudest song of their career and this album. Valo, Zoltan, Gas, Linde, and Mige all work hard to make this a really loud, gripping song. Deducted points because it gets boring to listen to after a few times.
"Heaven Tonight": 10/10- Though they share the same score, this comes in second for the softest song of the album, behind "Join Me In Death". Zoltan does a good job with the opening, and Ville follows through with good lyrics. Has a techno-like touch to it; while keeping the metal feel also. I would take away point for repetition of lyrics, but they're just to beautiful to hate. *A Must Listen*
"Sigillum Diaboli": 9/10- Linde does the chainsaw guitar sound again in the entrance to this song. The lyrics are a bit dull, as well as confusing, but this one still holds up. Really fast playing (compared to the band's other songs) makes this one a really rough-edged song.
"One Last Time (A.K.A.- The 9th Circle)": 10/10- this song really starts off slow, but keeps the slow beat going with touching lyrics and soft playing by everyone. Good for driving in the car, or just relaxing. The song really pics up in the solo with a really phenomenal "switching speaker sides" effect. If you listen, you'll get what I'm saying. *A Must Listen*
To end this- buy this album. Quick! Do it now!
Have a good day-
Mikey Ramone.
Free Music Review: Not My Favorite, But Still A Great CD... Hit: 5 Stars
This was my first purchase by the band HIM (though at the time it was not yet released in the US so it costed about 30 dollars, but it has a bonus disc with 6 live tracks). Though a lot of people like it the most, I enjoy "Greatest Love Songs, Vol. 666" and "Love Metal" more, because of their more complex songs and better musicianship. There are a lot of power chords and easy bass lines, and they definetly do not show what they are capable of. However, this is the best CD to start with if you're new to HIM, and it is only $9.99. But I do recommend buying "GLSV666" and "LM" when they are released here, if they ever are, as well.Ville Valo is the vocalist and songwriter here, and he is amazing at both. He has a very beautiful voice which can do a lot of different ranges, and is, in my opinion, one of the best rock vocalists. The lyrics he writes are ridiculus if you look at them as being literal. Almost all the lyrics are metaforical, which is what makes them so special. The music is good, but he is capable of writing much more layered, complex melodies. While Ville Valo is the front man, the band themselves are also very talented. The guitarist lays down a lot of power chords, but can let loose a catchy riff here and there. The keyboardist is good and gets a lot of playing time (at least for a hard rock keyboardist). The bassist does no hard things, and never has, but never disappoints at delivering a solid, simple rhythm. The drummer is the only below average talent. He gets the job done, but doesn't do much else. He never really plays fast or aggressively and pretty much plays the same beat throughout the whole track, with few variations. But this could be improved upon with future releases... 1. Your Sweet 666-10/10-A re-make of their opening track from "Greatest Love Songs, Vol. 666". This version's definetly better, with more keyboards and more high singing. 2. Poison Girl-10/10-A more mellow track, with good bass and lyrics. I love the line, "I did it all just for her...". Great song. 3. Join Me In Death-8/10-A lot of people really like this song, but I just think it's alright. It's way to mellow and it just doesn't compare with the rest this album offers. 4. Right Here in My Arms-10/10-This is just a beautiful song. Every time I listen to it, it's still amazing. One of the best. 5. Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart-5/10-Ehhh...never cared for this. Nothing new or interesting and very boring. Way to quiet in verse, and the drumming's not good at all. I usually skip this. 6. Wicked Game-10/10-Another re-make from "GLSV666", which was (and is) a cover of the Chris Isaak song. Not being a fan of Isaak, I think their cover is better, though the better cover is on "GLSV666", because of the better riff it has. Anyway, this version's still great, as you could probably tell from the 10 rating. 7. I Love You (Prelude to Tragedy)-10/10-Great keyboards in the opening riff, and a very dramatic chorus. One of the best on the album. 8. Gone With The Sin-10/10-Another mellow track, but I think they pull this off quite well. The acoustic guitar's are great, and I love the lyrics in the chorus. 9. Razorblade Kiss-10/10-My favorite track on the album. The solo's amazing, and the vocals are astounding in the chorus. Amazing work. 10. Reserrection-8/10-A good track, it's just that it's all been done before. Not bad, just not new. 11. Death is in Love With Us-9/10-A very fast track. Love the lyrics. 12. Heaven Tonight-7/10-I like the mellow music and the bass at the beginning, though I don't love the rest. It's pretty good, just not amazing. 13. Sigillum Diabolia-7/10-This track is not on my version, but I've downloaded it, and I used to love it, but it gets old after repeated listenings. A lot of repeating, but the lyrics are awesome. Very fast and heavy. 14. One Last Time-10/10-This is not on my version either, but I have downloaded it as well. A very quiet track, with some weird noises at the beginning, but once it gets going, it's beautiful. Great acoustic guitars and haunting vocals. One of the best, even if it's not on my album. As I said before, this is not my favorite HIM release, but it is a very easy-to-get-in-to album, and if you're just getting into the band, get this first. Also, remember not to call them goth, as it is not correct. The name's Love Metal.
Free Music Review: Beautiful masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
I got this album for xmas, my first ever HIM album, and I was so excited. I wanted it for so long, and I'd been listening to the same clips on amazon for about 2 months in anticipation. It is my favourite album at the moment, it's AMAZING.
Here's a rundown of the tracks.
1. 'Your Sweet 666' - this song is really infectious, and it gets stuck in your head. That's not a bad thing though 'cause it's really good, and the lyrics are very good. Ville's voice is brilliant in it. 5/5 ('I'm longing for your touch, and I welcome your sweet 666 in my heart')
2. 'Poison Girl' - again a very good song, but not one of my favourites. It doesn't click with me as much as some of the others. 4/5 ('A prey she was for the cruelty of love while its serpent inside crawled straight towards her heart')
3. 'Join Me In Death' - I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it, it's by far one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. The piano sends shivers down my spine, it has a really beautiful sound. 5/5 ('And we've waited for so long for this moment to come, we're so anxious to be together, together in death')
4. 'Right Here In My Arms' - this is my favourite song on the whole album. It opens with a truly brilliant sound, think it's keyboard but not sure, and Ville sings brilliantly in it. The lyrics are really good, and it just makes you want to sing along at the top of your voice (of course, I wait until everyone's out the house before I do that!) 10/5 ('She's smiling like heaven is down on earth, sun is shining so bright on her')
5. 'Bury Me Deep Inside Her Heart' - I wasn't so sure about this song at first play, but it's really grown on me, and it has a lovely sound. 4/5 ('Let me wake up in your arms, hear you say it's not alright')
6. 'Wicked Game' - wow, what an amazing infectious cover. Originally by Chris Isaak, HIM have done an brilliant version and is another of my favourites. 5/5 ('No I don't wanna fall in love, this world is only gonna break your heart')
7. 'I Love You' - this is another amazing song, with some really good singing, and is very catchy. 4/5 ('I see it in your eyes, I feel it in your touch')
8. 'Gone With The Sin' - this is the only one that I don't really get into. It just doesn't touch me in the same way that the rest of them do, and this is the only one that I would skip. It's not all bad though, the lyrics are pretty good and Ville's voice is top-notch as usual. Just don't like the tune really. 3/5 ('I love your skin so white, I love your touch cold as ice')
9. 'Razorblade Kiss' - another of the best on the entire album. This has a really really cool sound and the chorus is awesome, for lack of a better word. 5/5 ('Your love is a razorblade kiss, the sweetest is the taste from your lips')
10. 'Resurrection' - okay I lied, I would maybe skip this one as well, but it is still quite good, and I would rather skip 'Gone With The Sin'. Not bad, just not amazing. It's been done before, let's say. 3/5 ('Keep begging for more of this resurrection')
11. 'Death Is In Love With Us' - another fantastic song! Don't dare skip this, it's brilliant, 'off the hook'. Haha. 5/5 ('It's not our fault if the reaper holds our hearts')
12. 'Heaven Tonight' - this is really good, with some weird noises thrown in at the start mainly, and is a really good listen. 5/5 ('You're so lonely your eyes have lost their life')
Unfortunately, I don't have the last two tracks on my copy of the album. I don't know, maybe they don't do that in Britain, just in America, but whatever. I'm sure they're just as good as the rest of the album. I am still giving this 5 stars even with two 3/5 ratings, just because the rest of the songs are so amazing! You gotta love HIM. And if you don't already, check them out immediately! I swear you'll fall in love.
Free Music Review: "Absolute Masterpiece..." Hit: 5 Stars
When I saw the cover for the album for the first time all I could think was: "there's no way I'm buying this CD...just look at that cover, there's no way I'll get it". I completely discarded it based only by its cover, not knowing that i was missing out on one of the truly best albums of all time. And yes, i know that not many guys will admit to like H.I.M. but ever since I heard "Razorblade Romance" I've become a die hard fan...
The album starts off with "Your Sweet 666" whick picks off from where the first one left off. Ville Valo's voice is enchanting and invites you to delve deeper into the song. The guitars at the begining kick off with a contagious riff, that has a little darkness to it and pulls you in, and when the guitars die down a little the bass really does a good job complementing the guitars. It's a good ways to start the album...
Next comes the great "Poison Girl" that takes a more serious tone and really brings depth to the album. Moving on with "Join Me(In Death)" which is the song that in my opinion defines the album. Who can forget those simple notes at the beginning?? Every girl i know screams when they hear those notes...Ville Valo captured and transmitted
the feelings of the lyrics, something he does in every song in this album.
"Right Here in My Arms" it's edgy, and has a little mix of old school punk. In my opinion, this song brings color which helps the album. I assure you that you'll be singing the chorus all night long...
"Gone with the Sin" and "Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart" are my favorites songs. Both are so heart breaking and Ville's vocals are so good, in "Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart" Ville caresses every word with such care and in "Gone with the Sin" he breathes the words out and finish them out with emphasis, both songs treally stand out and "Razorblade Kiss" that has a great tone to it and keeps up with the dark mood.
Also there's "Wicked Game" a cover of Chris Isaak's classic. This is one of the best covers I've ever heard, Ville's voice is so raw and as much as i liked the original version this one surpasses it in every sense of the word. "I Love You", "Heaven Tonight", "Resurrection", Death is In Love with Us", "Sigillum Diaboli" and "One Last Time" are all beautiful songs that could have been radio hits.
Indeed H.I.M. is one of the greatest bands of all time and should be more famous than what they are. Ville's a great writer, in my opinion one of the essential composers of this time. This album is very special to me because it brought a different perspective to what love is and the many ways it can be expressed. I recommend this album to anyone that appreciates music, good writing and of course, love. I would also recommend to buy the CD because it should be heard as a whole and not just one track. This is an absolute masterpiece and everyone should have the chance to listen to it.
Free Music Review: RAZORBLADE ROMANCE - STILL THEIR BEST ALBUM!!! Hit: 5 Stars

1. "I Love You (Prelude to Tragedy)"
2. "Poison Girl"
3. "Join Me in Death"
4. "Right Here in My Arms"
5. "Gone With the Sin"
6. "Razorblade Kiss"
7. "Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart"
8. "Heaven Tonight"
9. "Death Is in Love With Us"
10. "Resurrection"
11. "One Last Time"
12. "Sigillum Diaboli"(German Digipak)
13. "The 9th Circle (OLT)"(German Digipak) - OLT stands for One Last Time. Not sure if this is the remake of that song or if that is the remake of this song. All I know is that it's the same lyrics, but sung in a different order & the music is harder. I love it.
It is missing Your Sweet Six Six Six, a track the U.S. version has.
U.S. track listing
1. "Your Sweet Six Six Six" - 3:56 - One of my favorites. Something to headbang to.
2. "Poison Girl" - 3:51 - Another great song.
3. "Join Me in Death" - 3:36 - Their most popular song, well in Europe anyway. I can see why.
4. "Right Here in My Arms" - 4:00 - I love the music to this, especially in the chorus.
5. "Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart" - 4:15 - In the chorus, music is hard. Otherwise, it's soft. Very nice balance if you ask me. Another great one.
6. "Wicked Game" - 4:04 - I like it, but not as much as the others.
7. "I Love You (Prelude to Tragedy)" - 3:09 - I like this just as much as the harder remix that was released on Uneasy Listening.
8. "Gone with the Sin" - 4:21 - Currently my favorite track. So many reasons why. It's slow, soft, hard in the chorus. I LOVE IT!!!
9. "Razorblade Kiss" - 4:18 - I like it, but not much.
10. "Resurrection" - 3:39 - I like the end the best because the very last beat immediately turns into the beginning of.....the next track.
11. "Death Is in Love with Us" - 2:57 - Hard music. Love that.
12. "Heaven Tonight" - 3:18 - Soft, but nice. I like it.
13. "Sigillum Diaboli" - 3:53 - Love the music.
14. "One Last Time" - 5:09 - Soft, slow, melody. 3 words to describe the lyrics, way they are sung, and the music. Can't go wrong with that.
