Free Music Review: Holger Czukay - 'Canaxis' (Mute)

Originally released in 1969, as I had NO idea that Czukay attempted to put together solo albums that early. On 'Canaxis', Holger employs the creative elements of Avant Garde, sampling and ahead-of-it's-time ambient. Actually, the former Can bassist manages to pull this feat off rather well. Tracks are the out-there "Boat-Woman-Song" (17:26), the title cut - sonic experimental "Canaxis" (19:37) and some short 2-minute closer piece "Mellow Out". Long time Can / Czukay fans will undoubtedly get plenty out of this CD reissue. As good as it sounds, but in the past maybe ten years, I seem to run across more and more patrons that are just now discovering Can and the band's legacy. You newbies have plenty to look forward to.
