Free Music Review: A Shining Star of the Ars Subtilior

I don't have much to add to the excellent reviews already written, but I thought I'd contribute to the amount of praise this disc is getting.

Ciconia was the composer par excellence in the time between Machaut's death and the height of Dufay's contemporary fame, with examples of his pieces found in manuscripts all over Europe. His music can be diabolically complex (e.g. the canon Le ray au Solyel), while at the same time possessing an emotional directness uncommon in music of the time. The sonics and performances couldn't be better; I especially enjoy hearing Michael Collver's lovely countertenor. Highly recommended!
