Free Music Notes for Looking for LuckyFree Music Review: This is a must have album from Hootie! Hit: 5 Stars
I know it's been said before, but I will reiterate it--this is Hootie's best album since Cracked Rear View. Like on the first album, I think they put the best four songs right up front, which means it takes a little time to get to know the whole album, but almost all of the other songs are quality and will grow on you.
The one blemish on this almost perfect album is Track 11, Free to Everyone. It's a formulaic and repetitive pop song that I find myself skipping every time. (Which I only mention b/c it means this album doesn't garner the coveted "not one bad song on the album" descriptor.)
The best song (in my opinion) is Track 4, Get Out of My Mind. It's one of those songs that is great the very first time you hear it, and somehow gets better every time you hear it after that. The three tracks leading up to it are great too, and you are instantly impressed by them.
All the other tracks you will enjoy, though some will take a few listens to get there. Tracks 10 and 12 are a little slower, but not as slow as Goodbye on CRV (and I'm not saying slow is bad--just trying to describe the tempo). It's a great driving disc, but is also great at parties or when you're at home working around the house. If you have enjoyed Hootie at any time in the past, I think you will appreciate this album.
Free Music Review: I tapped my feet from the first beat Hit: 5 Stars
Here's the Breakdown:
5/10 - State Your Peace (fast-paced, but boring. Huh)
7/10 - Hey Sister Pretty (First two songs are over-produced and not very memorable)
9.7/10 - The Killing Stone (Darius sounds great here. I love the irony of how he sings about how the conservative Republicans are so pro life, yet they just love war)
10/10 - Get Out of My Mind (Perfect Hootie)
2/10 - Another Year's Gone By (Ummmm...boring song)
8.6/10 - Can I See You (Love the Mandolin and Fiddle; nice slow "love" song)
1/10 - A Smile (Just really lame)
9.7/10 - One Love (This is Hootie!!)
10/10 - Leaving (I love Country music, so I just love this fun song; however most of you out there will probably hate it, but since you all seem to have gotten into the Angry American, maybe not?)
10/10 - Autumn Jones (Rhapsody has a typo, and they have this song title Autume Leaves. This is a great Hootie song)
3/10 - Free to Everyone (Lame)
8/10 - Waltz Into Me (Another country song)
To sum up, some hits, some misses, but the hits are definitely worth it. The CD really shifts gears into a country sounding CD starting from the song Leaving.
Free Music Review: Hootie is back with the best album of the Summer Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great Summer CD that you can play from start to finish and never skip a track. Jam in your car on a long road trip or listen to while you're online.
"State Your Peace" opens up this album in a big way and is one of the catchier and more meaningful songs Hootie has ever written. It rocks and doesn't disappoint. "Hey Sister Pretty" is their answer to Only Wanna Be With You, only this time it's actually a much better song. This is one of their best songs of all time. To anyone who thinks Hootie is a middle age frat band playing bland music, listen to "The Killing Stone" and you will feel differently immediately. This is a powerful song. There are several songs heavily influenced by bluegrass that are better than anything else in the genre, such as "Leaving" and "Autumn Jones." And the first single "One Love" is reminescent of "Hold My Hand."
All in all there is not a better CD out this summer, maybe this year.
Pick up Looking for Lucky and you won't be able to put it down.
Hootie is back on top.
Free Music Review: I dont wanna say this one is better Hit: 5 Stars
I dont useally do this. But their comes a time when you hear an album and you just feel compelled to talk about it. Looking For Lucky is one of those albums that just makes you say WOW after it finishes its last track and then go listen to it again. I am a huge hootie fan and I think this is their best album ever. Thats right. Ever. That includes Cracked Rear View, which until about three weeks ago (when Looking For Lucky hit stores) I thought was hootie masterpiece. Every Song on this album is incredable- From the electrifing "State Your Peace" to the solumn, but poinght "Waltz Into Me". Some Highlights include "Hey Siser Pretty" and "Free to Everyone". But by far the best song on the alubum is "Get Outta My Mind", an infectious pop tune with a courus that if giving the chance, could be the biggest hit they've had since "Only Wanna Be With You". The Bottom Line is that this album in the best Hootie and the Blowfish album ever and that includes Cracked Rear View. And thats sayin something.
Free Music Review: sooooo misunderstood Hit: 5 Stars
As always - brilliant! To address previous reviews - first of all if you are a TRUE fan you will know that the band NEVER broke up, Darius did a solo album to explore a TOTALLY different kind of music and that CD ROCKED - he is an amazingly talented musician! ALL of the Hootie CD's are awesome southern rock style that explores great musical talent and vocals - to say otherwise is ridiculous. Hootie continues to tour at least every other year if not every year and they choose small venues to be intimate with their TRUE fans. Quit judging a band by ONE album open your mind and embrace the differences - they're awesome. To address the supposed "sell out" of Darius in the Burger King commercial - give me a break - that whole series of commercials, not just Darius's, was to be humerous and poke fun....did you actually take it seriously? It was funny! It was meant to be funny! Get a clue.
