I saw the Matadors perform twice in September of 2006, in high energy shows that totally delighted dedicated rockabilly audiences. As exciting and compelling as their live performances are, this is one of the rare occasions when a groups' CD sounds even better than their live performance. This CD is astonishly well produced. Every cut has the artists performing at 110% of their considerable musical ablities and energy levels. The production is seamless and the mix is spot on. Hearing this CD for me was one of the musical highlights of 2006. As an example of a group creating an album that epitomizes the music of their genre, I do not hesitate to compare this album to the likes of Led Zeppelin II or Dark Side of the Moon. Sounds hyperbolic I know, and I have never made such a statment before and may never say it again. How these guys are not a household word already is a total mystery to me. This is an excellent album with gold and platinum written all over it.
