Free Music Review: Do you like Huey Lewis And The News?

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.
He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
In '87, Huey released "Fore!", their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

I have been a fan of Huey Lewis and the News since I first encountered them in the 1980s. So many of their songs are wonderful - Do You Believe In Love, Jacob's Ladder, Doing It All For My Baby...need I continue? And, they are all here! This excellent Greatest Hits album has got no less than 21(!) of the band's best tunes.
Even after all of these years, the music of Huey Lewis and the News sounds wonderful - I love to listen to it over and over again. (Indeed, I had to go out and find the video to Doing It All For My Baby - one of my all-time favorite videos!) If you like good music, then you will like this album. And, if you like the boys from San Fran, then this is the album for you. Buy it!

Some greatest hits packages open with a big splash - others with a big silence. This believe it or not comes in the latter category. It's a fantastic compilation of hits by Huey Lewis and crew. Horns aplenty and good ol' rock and roll. After 3 weeks it is no. 100 on Billboard charts which is a real shame. Highlights are Bruce Hornsby's 'Stuck On You', 'Power Of Love' 'Heart Of Rock And Roll' and many many more. The only dud for me was 'But It's Alright'. 'Trouble In Paradise' is the only live cut and has unbelievable sax. 'Cruisin' with Gwyneth Paltrow is a surprisingly good cut. 'Its Alright' is totally different and 'Small World' features Stan Getz.
Over 79 minutes of pure entertainment.

Huey Lewis & The News is a great band. The music is just upbeat and fun. I graduated high school in 1985 and I remember all through the 80s liking these guys whenever I heard them. These guys are just plain cool - clean cut, upbeat, fun, good-looking, and their music is excellent. I just love their style of music and Huey's voice is great. Their later stuff is fine too, but I'm mostly familiar with their 1980s stuff as I was a young adult then. I can't really think of another band with quite the same sound as these guys and they are just great.
I recommend this CD because it is very positive, fun, and upbeat music to listen to. What's not to like?

Being an owner of Sports (And The News) which is also a good album. But it was missing a few songs so this one does a great job filling the gaps. The liner notes have some neat pictures. I like the one with Huey sitting on the beach with the News in the sand up to their heads. Containing 21 tracks it's a well packed disc. Having a live version of Trouble in paradise is one of many songs making it worth the buy. There's nothing wrong with being (Hip to be square) when (Workin' for a livin') only to get a (Couple days off) on the weekends to do some (Crusin').
