Free Music Notes for Take What You WantFree Music Review: Underrated, underappreciated Hit: 5 StarsAnother must have for your 80's collection. Great debut from a great band! "It's Only Heaven" is one of the most haunting tunes you've never heard.
Free Music Review: Remastered but... Hit: 2 StarsRemaster of a great band, but some of the lamest packaging I have ever seen. "Artwork restored to match original vinyl release" meaning we are going to be very cheap. It is just like a record with a cardboard case and paper inner sleeve, except they're cd sized, and that's it. Nothing else. Limited Edition implies something special.
Free Music Review: hurricane is coming Hit: 4 Starsits been alomg tlme waiting for this to be released on cd.it was a great album back in the late 80's and listening to it once again is really great.as i listened all the songs came back to me as though i been hearing them everyday.if your an old hurricane fan you wont be disappointed. if you never heard of them then listen to the samples and im sure you'll enjoy them
Free Music Review: Impressive debut, AMAZING remaster Hit: 4 StarsOriginally issued as an EP, 1985's Take What You Want was the first release by melodic rockers Hurricane, which featured Kelly Hansen on vocals. The band might have emerged from the L.A. hair metal scene, but their polished and melodic sound was closer to House of Lords and Giuffria than it was to Poison or Motley Crue. Take What You Want is a very strong debut recording, and it's easy to see how it landed the band their major label contract. The songs are very well written and have a great sense of melody, and Hansen's voice is simply irresistible.
In addition to the EP's original 6 songs, the CD includes early versions of three songs from Hurricane's second album Over the Edge - I'm On To You, Baby Snakes, and Over the Edge - as well as a brief instrumental track called L.A. Luna. These songs are interesting enough, but the real value of Caroline Records' 2008 reissue of Take What You Want is hearing the original EP with crystal clear digitally remastered sound.
If you're a fan of the 80's melodic rock and/or hair metal scene, these Hurricane reissues are a must-have, and Take What You Want is the ideal place to start.
NOTE: The CD comes housed in a mini-LP style package. It's essentially a slightly oversized cardboard sleeve with the disc enclosed in an interior envelope. The reissues of the band's later albums include liner notes, but they are missing from this album. I'm not a huge fan of this kind of packaging (it doesn't do a great job protecting the CD), but I have to admit that it is ideal for showcasing the album cover artwork, and as you can see Hurricane's album covers are worthy of the extra attention!
Free Music Review: Recently re-released Hit: 5 StarsThis CD has been re-released (no hoax this time) contains bonus tracks - Over the Edge, I'm onto You, and an instrumental of Baby Snakes, these versions are different than the tracks on the 2nd Hurricane Cd Over the Edge
This one is a personal fave of mine, had it on cassette, but I dont have a cassette player any longer, pleased to see it finally re-released.
