Free Music Review: "It's always been there inside of you..."
Hit: 5 Stars

There are a lot of things you can say about this album. You can talk about the massive concept that's been at least 8 years in the making finally coming to a triumphant conclusion. You can talk about frontman Matt Barlow taking the time out of his Jack Bauer duties to make an unprecedented comeback to the band. You could go into detail and talk about every riff, every melody, every solo, every note, chord, stanza, lyric, whatever. Maybe you could complain about how it doesn't sound like this or that Iced Earth album, or how it DOES sound like this or that Iced Earth album, or how the band has yet to stray from their classic metal roots to experiment with new and innovative musical avenues. Yes, you could do all of those things, and perhaps I could too. But instead, this is all I will say:

When I listen to "Come What May", and hear Barlow drive this stunning epic home with his beyond godlike vocals, I want to get on my knees and thank whatever metal gods may or may not exist within this universe for allowing this reunion to occur. A few years ago, I never thought I'd hear this album, as it is, and now that I've gotten it, I can take comfort in knowing that occasionally miracles do happen.

Now all I've got to do is see them live with Matt again. Then I'm pretty sure I can die happy.

Are we all reviewing the same album? Reading some of the reviews here, I am inclined to think not. This newest installment from Iced Earth is nothing short of stellar. Part II has hit me in a way that Part I did not. I guess everyone has their favorite, for me I like the writing better on Part II as well as the return of Matt on vocals. I see Ripper as a nice little treat that Jon gave to us for a time. However, Matt is THE voice of Iced Earth. What has always drawn me to the band has been Matt's delivery of Jon's vision. When I first listened to this album, I knew immidately that it was going to be one of my favorite Iced Earth albums. Like one of the other reviewers has stated, it is a concept album and the music must flow with the telling of the story. I think they completely nail it here! Please don't listen to all the negative reviews. The writing and performances here are top notch. If this is what is in store for us with the return of Matt, I am already eager for more!!

Free Music Review: The return of a god and the end of a great concept
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been an Iced Earth fan since the dark saga and i guess some could say I'm a little biased. Iced Earth is definitely my favorite band and this latest album has blown me away! Some fans think I.E have lost their greatness and have become a run of the mill power metal band but let's just be honest, the music hasn't changed! Were still hearing Jon's signature triplets, still got the synchronized kick work in the drums,Matt's still belting out the vocals in top shape. Whats not to like? A lot of fan's had a problem with Tim Owens replacing Matt Barlow, now you see some fans complaining about the return of Barlow. Shut up and listen to another band if you don't like it! I would say if you don't like the crucible of man then the problem is with the listener not the band. This is Iced Earth's logical next step

Free Music Review: The Barlow is back!
Hit: 5 Stars

It's great to hear the return of Matt Barlow and his deep full bodied vocals as opposed to Tim Owens higher pitched screams. The voice of Barlow just fits. The songs here are mostly slower than those on the previous album, but somewhat heavier. This is especially true in a track like crucify the king. At first I didn't like it too much because it was too slow but it grew on me. The last track is an intriguing melodic epic with a interesting vibe that calls back the song "consequences" from the something Wicked album. Plus, it features a weird native american "sounds of nature" interlude. It's a weird song to end such a doom filled saga with but other than that the album is top notch.

Free Music Review: THIS CD IS AWESOME
Hit: 5 Stars

Back to true form, Jon Schaffer and the group have surpassed all my expectations with this masterpiece. I loved Part 1 with Ripper, but this cd was made for Barlow, and I could not picture it without him. Gone are the fluff tracks. The tracks that are 2-3 minutes are still great (Crown of the Fallen & The Dimension Gauntlet for instance are killer tracks). I've heard Jon sing on the older albums but I could not believe it was him on 'A Gift or Curse?', he does an unbelievable job. And by far one of the best tracks Iced Earth have ever written, COME WHAT MAY, is a great way to end this saga. If you call yourself a heavy metal fan, then do yourself a favor and BUY THIS CD!!
