Free Music Review: Iced Earth's back with trademark sound
Hit: 4 Stars

I'll keep this short & sweet....Iced Earth's latest offering is exactly the same as every album since 'The Dark Saga.' Typical Iced Earth sound-- energetic drumming, thrashy guitars, a ballad here & there. I guess the only major difference with this CD from most Iced Earth CDs is that there are a lot more slow paced songs than fast/mid paced songs. And as a special note, Matt Barlow is back on vocals which feels right. Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE Tim Owens fan, but Barlow was always considered "the man" for this band & it's nice to see him back with Iced Earth again. Honestly, I think Jon Schaffer needs to bring Iced Earth to bigger & better places because it is getting old hearing the same sound for each album for over a decade now, but at least in the meantime us fans are getting the sound we are familiar with (in a good way.)

Free Music Review: A little dissapointed
Hit: 4 Stars

I thought Framing Armageddon was great, and the Ripper never sounded better. I thought the follow-up album would be even more amazing with the return of the front man, Matt Barlow. And he was great! The album does lack some butt-kicking that I thought it would have. And it wasn't until I listened to the album 5 times that I started to appreciate its complexity and rhythms. Awesome chorus as usual. The last song is very epic! But for how much I enjoy listening to it now after letting it sink in, still a little dissapointed that it wasn't better than Framing. I guess I expected more evil songs where the Chosen One was reaking more specific havoc. Lyrics are a little weak in some songs, which is very suprising (a lot of repetition). Still a must have to complete the amazing story.

Free Music Review: What's the big deal?
Hit: 4 Stars

well ive read alot of these reviews and everyone has their own taste and their own opinions as do I. Personally i prefer Matt Barlow with Jon's crunching toned down rythms more so then the power metal'ish sound with Ripper. Dont get me wrong, Ripper is awesome and can sure tell a story! Just Listen to Winter's Bane where he truly shines. They both are equally strong and did Iced Earth fans justice. As did the other 2 singers they had! Each adding/ and having their own flavor with each release. Dont hate change just evolve with it... cause arguing Diamond Dave is better then Sammy or Ford is better then Chevy is just ridicuous! I do agree though that i would rather not here Demons & Wizards in my Iced Earth, but what can you do... This album is very strong and worth every listen!

Free Music Review: Why are some reviewers being so harsh? It's actually really good.
Hit: 4 Stars

I like The Crucible of Man (Something Wicked Part II) better than Part I, not just because Matthew Barlow is back. I am a fan of both Tim Owens and Barlow, but Matt's voice seems to fit the music a little better. I think song for song, this is a very strong effort from Jon Schaffer. While it's no Dark Saga, I would rank this right alongside Horror Show, or perhaps even higher. All the tracks range from good to very good, with "Come What May" being the only one to really enter the great category.

All in all, this is a very good CD and deserves its place in any Iced Earth fan's iPod or car stereo.

Free Music Review: Excellent Bookend To The Something Wicked Trilogy
Hit: 4 Stars

I have been an Iced Earth fan since 1998, and eagerly awaited this album. I must say I am not dissapointed. The return of Matt Barlow seems to have re-invigorated the band. No disrespect to Ripper Owens, but Matt is THE TRUE voice of Iced Earth.

This release, combined with KILLER new albums from Metallica, Death Angel, Testament, and Prong has led me to proclaim 2008 as the year Thrash Metal has returned with a Vengeance!
