Free Music Notes for I StandFree Music Review: This is what I waited so long for? Hit: 1 StarsI am a huge an of Idina Menzel, but not the huge teenage fans who celebrate her birthday and would faint if they meet her. No, I'm a fan who respects her for her acting ability, creativity, and her uniguness that began with Rent. As I listin to this cd, I wonder to myself, where'd it all go? Idina has a uniqness about her that I always admired, and envied. It was strong in "Still I Can't Be Still" and still there in "Here," but with this new album I struggle to see it. As I write this I hate to say it but, I think she sold out. She made a true Pop album, one the the Backstreet Boys would be jelous of. In here tittle track, "I Stand" I can't listin to it without laughing. It's like the popular girl in school, who doesn't want to disect the frog because she hates the blood but instead takes a stand that it's cruel. Or the girl who wears the "Save the rainforest" shirt, but then turns around and jumps into her hummer. All the songs are just not what I feel in love with on "Still I Can't Be Still." Maybe she matured, alot, or maybe she just wanted to become a little more mainstream. We'll, it seems she got it! But I think she'll be losing a lot of her original fans, I know she lost me.
Free Music Review: Idina does it again! Hit: 5 StarsI have loved Idina Menzel since her performance on broadway in RENT and she does it again with her new album. She is absolutely beautiful and has an amazing voice! If you enjoy Idina on stage you would love this new album! She never seizes to amaze me!
Free Music Review: Emotional and heart-felt album Hit: 5 StarsIdina Menzel is one of the most talented artists in the industry these days and her new album 'I Stand' is an amazing showcase of her experience and skills.
I Stand - 4/5 - Idina's voice really shines in this song and shows how much range and control she has. However, I'm not into the whole 'anthem' vibe of the song (one of 2 songs on the album that teeters dangerously towards the cheesy side).
Better To Have Loved - 5/5 - One of the best songs on the album. The emotions in Idina are clearly on display in this song and the chorus is amazing (except I'm not a fan of the beginning where it sounds like creepy background singers have overtaken the song, but that's only 5 seconds).
Brave - 5/5 - At this point, I've listened to the song so many times that I'm almost sick of it. However, I still remember how beautiful I thought the song was when I first heard it, which of course led to me listening to it constantly. Idina's voice is truly stunning at the beginning of the song. Some people think the lyrics are cheesy, but I think they carry a lot of truth and emotion that many people can relate to.
Gorgeous - 4/5- The most upbeat and 'pop' song on the album. It's got a very catchy beat but I'm not such a big fan of the lyrics (again, teetering towards cheesy).
Where Do I Begin - 3.5/5 - Probably the weakest song on the album, which is actually saying a lot, considering its still a very good song. I always cringe at the beginning, but the chorus carries the most meaning and emotion. A nice song on its own, but as others have said, it's overshadowed by other much more powerful songs.
Don't Let Me Down - 4/5 - I love the beginning where only the piano is playing, but the massive shift in mood to the chorus really brings the song off-track. Both parts are great, but they would have worked better separately.
I Feel Everything - 4/5 - The emotion in this song is incredible. I love the piano in the song, very cleverly used. I also love how Idina sounds like a naive little girl when she says 'Like a prima ballerina, I will tip toe, tip toe around you constantly' and then suddenly changes to this strong, amazing voice at the chorus.
Forever - 4.5/5 - This song really grew on me after awhile. It kind of has a dark tone to it, which I'm a big fan of (the songs get darker as you progress more into the album). One little things that irks me: Idina's pronunciation is kind of weird in this song, almost as if she were singing in a drunk state(I swear I thought she was saying `Forever came Edmund' until the 10th time I played it).
My Own Worst Enemy - 5/5 - A really dark and moody song, just the way I like it. I love the chorus, as it really gets the emotions stirring inside of you. The ending is amazing. Idina's voice always sounds amazing, but when she's harmonizing, it's especially incredible.
Perfume and Promises - 5/5 - By far, the best song on the album. The melody is incredible. It has a beautiful, serene quality to it that swoops and then soars. Idina's voice is simply stunning. Like the melody, her voice is very serene and dream-like. Even though Idina didn't write the song, the lyrics are still very powerful. If you listen to only one song on this album, it should definitely be this one!
Free Music Review: hit for Idina Hit: 5 StarsAny Idina Menzel fan will not be disapointed by this CD! All ten tracks are beautiful and express all of her amazing talents. My favorite being Perfume and Promises. I truely think that most people don't give this song a chance, but it has so much meaning, its hard not to love! idina wrote this song while she was in London, a point in her life where she really liked herself and was having so much fun with new people. "Stay for another morning, study the curves on my face." Gorgeous is another amazing track. This song is about her relationship with Taye and how no one has the right to judge them. "The City wants to fight but it can't touch us anymore." Brave, of course being her single, is a beautiful ballad expressing feelings that everyone has felt before. "I cant be afraid, cause it's my turn to be brave."
This CD is a great buy and I don't think anyone will be disapointed!!!
Free Music Review: I Stand Hit: 5 StarsI really love Idina's new CD! I STAND is her best CD yet!
I Stand 5/5 ~ Its easily my favourite song on the album. It has good lyrics and a great tune. A good meaning too.
Better to Have Loved 5/5 ~ Another really strong track on the album. I love the verses and the chorus.
Brave 4/5 ~ It's slightly slower compared to the other two but it's still good. Just gets a little boring after listening to it so many times.
Gorgeous 4/5 ~ It gets fast again! I don't know why, I think it's a great song but I don't find myself listening to it as much as the first two.
Where Do I Begin 5/5 ~ My second favourite! It's really good and I think the chorus is wonderful. Idina pulled it off really well.
Don't Let Me Down 3/5 ~ I think it would be a great song if the chorus and verses were separated. (Just to me,) I don't think the verses and the chorus flow together maybe because they were written separately? But it's a good song nevertheless.
I Feel Everything 5/5 ~ I love this song, especially the beginning. And the chorus. And everything about it.
Forever 3/5 ~ It's another slow song. I think Idina wrote it all by herself. It's okay but I think like the other songs better.
My Own Worst Enemy 5/5 ~ Okay, forget the first two songs, this is my favourite! I love the chorus soo much. Can't stop listening to it. =D
Perfume and Promises 4/5 ~ Don't really have any comments for this song. You've gotta hear it to love it.
Overall, it's a great CD, Idina's vocals are beautiful and some songs are really well written. If you loved her in Wicked and RENT, you should get this album =D
